Obviously the people in charge of the company would need to communicate with the members… This really shouldn’t require a question.
I don’t know jack about servers or game development. But is a similar setup like ESO a possibility. Seems like a “mega server” would solve the issue pretty quick
How do you interpret the official post that states basically, pick a server now to get playing the game then you can switch later to a server of the players choice? Do you interpret that as being restricted in any manner since the official post says a server of the players choice? To me, this would mean any server.
There were clearly no stipulations or limitations listed, people would have made different decisions if the truth was told. If I sold you a product and you purchased that product based on certain features existing then after you got the product I changed what the product features were or a function of the product I would be guilty of false advertising, which is tantamount to a lie.

If each region is a separate database and we can’t transfer to another region, why are names global? sigh

it’s a double-edged sword. if they give a timeline but don’t follow up on it ppl give them flack and say learn to communicate. If they don’t give any details or time frame they get the same flack and ppl demand info. ya cant win
Either just say straight out that the New World team couldn’t do it due to technical reasons, or make it happen.
While I think most of us understand that you’re not the person who is doing the work to make server transfers happen, trying to deflect the anger is only going to trigger people even harder when you won’t even own up to the fact it was claimed several times that we could transfer regions, and now we are being told we can’t without any attempt at an explanation.

I would tend to agree, but seeing “we are working on this but we cannot provide a detailed timeframe” and then providing updates is still better than saying “Next week” “nevermind nextweek” x3
yeah not with the online community these days… you cant make everyone happy.

This is so sad to hear.
I wish you would’ve been up-front about the region limitations from the start. I have friends all over different regions who’d been grinding to all finally converge on the same server, and now we’re all forced to keep playing what is essentially a single player game 
I hope that we’ll be able to transfer between regions in the future, at least. I understand that it might be more difficult because you have separate databases, but I hope you make the investment for your players who were hoping to play with all their friends.

This is a fair question and we’ll certainly discuss with the server team. If any of these requirements change we will communicate those updates.

This is not good at all AGS. You have one chance to get your launch right, and coming out with BS statements such as, “circumstances change” will stain your company for years to come. This is very unprofessional and not acceptable.

Separate databases do not matter, they can copy the character info over easily. There is no legitimate technical limitation as to why they cannot transfer between regions. The name database is already global…

I apologize if it feels like we’re deflecting anger. We do understand these frustrations are totally valid. We were running fast and communicated that we’d be able to transfer data between regions but that information wasn’t accurate.
Different regions operate on separate databases and tagging a character to a new world isn’t possible.

Please explain what makes it impossible? What exactly is different between transfers between local cluster and a remote cluster?

… We are also working hard on a feature that will allow you to transfer your characters to a different server, so if you choose one now just to get up and playing, you can make a different choice later to play on a server with your friends. Our goal is to release this feature next week, once we’ve thoroughly tested and are sure it’s ready. Prior to its release, we will provide detailed information on how the transfer process works. We know how important it is to be able to play with friends, so we’re putting this feature at the top of our priority list.
They specifically stated they will release the specifics at a later time. Taken from the original announcement here.
Addressing the twitter image posted here, they have since posted (See my previous posts above) corrected information on the forums.
YES they should have made more official pinned posts talking about this change.
We communicated our goal for implementation but I can understand that feels like a promise.

I wouldn’t delegitimize their response and insinuate that they don’t understand the technical challenges of their product, but I will say that technical challenges are just that – challenges. With enough time and care, I’m sure they can implement a system that can sanely transfer the character data from one database to another, and I hope they do.
This is not communication of a goal. This is a statement.

there are options to get into the game more quickly. If you are a player logging in for the first time, forty percent of our live servers have low or no wait times. We encourage you to seek those servers out and get playing. We are also working hard on a feature that will allow you to transfer your characters to a different server, so if you choose one now just to get up and playing, you can make a different choice later to play on a server with your friends.
So basically you told people to go on low pop servers to get into the game and get started then they can transfer to play with their friends ( who may be on high pop servers ) then you tell them
So the “transfer to any server” statement issues earlier was not true?
