[Megathread] Why did you quit? AGS needs more feedback!

I did not.

a solid 7

a solid 8

  • PvP and PvE are not balanced independently

  • No rewarding solo content

  • No group size scaleable content for when friends can play. I have a 4 person group, so we have left to play something that we can all play together.

  • Expertise system and loot drop system is attrocious, due to the RNG

  • Crafting is unrewarding, I have most of my crafting skills at 200, but I’m not going to RNG perks, with the potential of never getting the perks I want. Even Lost Arks system is better because at least I can see what my upgrade chance is.

  • Every time I think about coming back I read the forums and see the PvP nerf posts about what ever the current meta is and think to myself, 'nah, I’m not going to spend the effort in creating a build specifically for me to enjoy playing PvE only to have it nerfed due to becoming the PvP meta".

I stopped playing when the May patch was released on PTR, I’ll keep checking the forums from time to time, but it seems that the majority of the playerbase left are PvP centric, which doesn’t interest me.

I didn’t stop yet but I’m thinking I should and I think I will very soon. I play from day 1 and have over 1700h played. I have 0 BIS items and I spent way too much gold. I don’t mid the grind but grind for a random perk item is just bad.

They don’t care what the people who leave hate, they only care what the people who are left like

In a couple of years this game will be great if they keep updating it.

Soon this game will be ready for beta, they just need to add in a lot of MMO features and things to do when not questing/pvping.

Other mmos i can go around racing people, sit in taverns playing games, meet people and go do random raids and quests etc etc etc. Even crafting (which is horrible) is just underdeveloped and a total waste of time unless you have unlimited resources.

There are no MMO features in this game that makes me want to log in anymore.

Mainly the clunky combat. This was the biggest issue for me. They said they would make it less clunky but did the opposite and made it more clunky.

On top of that the lack of just insight about what makes a game fun. They implement things like chests and such however they don’t know why opening those chests are fun. They have chests just to have chests.

An already exceedingly long grind was made longer and the “non-die hard players” were told to suck eggs.

We all saw streamers day one get fed mats and hit 200 in all skills. The answer to this was for the devs to just artificially increase each skills grind 4x.

There’s lots of problems that can be overcome or ignored, disrespecting your players’ time is not one of them.

This like the other multi-posts about “Why’d/What made you leave” has yet to be acknowledged and imo not even read…has no one learned AGS, the devs and seems like now even the CM/CL’s are not helping. How many post/s has there been for help on issues/bugs/exploits that they have outright ignored? More by FAR than what they have helped…they all know NW is on it’s last leg and even it is sepsis, don’t expect a word from anyone “in control”, you’re only playing yourself if you do…and what was “acknowledged” by any CM/CL has always been “I’ll pass it on” in other words the devs giving the middle finger

Why solicit feedback from a dev team that a) ignores feedback and b) actively releases software CONTRARY to feedback?

Alpha tested for 2 years providing feedback over and over for key things.

Simple things like adding fucking squirrels and things to make the world more alive etc. Flying birds variety etc. New World probably has some of the laziest world design of all time.

Anyways, easily exploitable systems killed the game, no real PvP reward track, I spent all my gold on a build that got nerfed to shit, rampant imbalance that was not addressed. Finally the last magic nerf coupled with the fact that they turned PvP into crafting like man, I want to see my rank like any other PvP game in 2022. Not something that was made in 90’s , so it killed the game for me. As well as politics and drama for trying to get into wars and that this game feels more like a job to get into wars than actually playing a game for fun.

After a point, you just stop caring and realize that the dev team has no idea what they are doing and management could give a fuck less about this game and they are clearly purposely trying to drive this shit in the dirt so they can shut down the servers.

There was no lack of feedback for how these systems are not friendly to the majority of players and they went to make an MMORPG for pure profit, when the old survival version of the game would have been niche like V-RISING but it would have been an actually fun game.

Overall, gear grind also killed it for me and I didn’t want to bend the knee to the great axe meta. Games bad man

A number of reasons that have to do with an overall poor understanding of how to design, balance and properly expand ‘end-game’ by AGS. I’d still be playing a lot if they showed even very slow progress on how to make what I consider a properly designed and balanced MMO, they have all the elements but repeatedly ignore or even crush down said elements, I have no idea why. This could become a very good MMO but until I start seeing steady progress on areas (steady as in it makes it more enjoyable/satisfying for more MMO players) like crafting, expertise system, OPR (should already be more BGs), WARs/overall PvP end-game system, itemization/drops, more stuff in the open world, less bugs/repeated bugs & exploits, better testing, etc. etc. Expeditions are about the only ‘ok’ element and even they have many problems.

AGS is simply not getting it done. Maybe the engine is bad so they spend too much time on it, maybe they are not good at game design… probably both. All devs makes mistakes but AGS has repeatedly made big ones since launch, has ignored big problems and also constantly re-introduces exploits/dupes/bugs that never should have been in the game at launch.

Just not worth sticking around for a MMO that is, IMO, doomed. Have done it before, always got burned. Will add that if the PvP was better (more of it, more varied, open world, etc.) I’d have stuck around just to do that, I enjoy PvP even if it is unbalanced/has issues. Expeditions are fun but have to do so many and for what? Gear that is basically used to do more expeditions? Yeah, not a player keeper end-game. They’d have to be a lot more fun. Like Lost Ark it is just more fun but I don’t play that either, but they made that hamster wheel more enjoyable so that is why so many play it and stick around.

@MinerTarv as long as they actually read the peoples replies and find the middle ground to keep everyone happy

I still play. Half because I still like a lot about this game and half because there’s really nothing else I am interested in right now (though I never played ESO and might give that a go maybe?). Surprisingly, the bugs don’t bother me that much, but also don’t play that much these days.

BUT if I was interested in any other MMO or a new one was on the horizon, I would quit NW because…

  1. No PvP servers (this latest update was nice but we’ll see how long that lasts)
  2. Expertise system (not only is it dumb but it was implemented so, so badly)
  3. Lack of focus on the open world. I don’t need yet another MMO where the open world is just a big, useless lobby in which to wait to do the the “real content.” Instanced stuff is nice but it shouldn’t be the main event.

And a bonus … 4) They take too long to release daggers. Come on!

High latency, RTT150-220 .everyone around AGS is expecting an Asian server for Asia and Southeast Asia

Most here know why I stopped. I used to log in at least once a week to check game status, hoping for implementation of some features, but with the total ignore that request from staff, I just come here to see what’s going on.
-Since I already got lvl 60 on 2 servers one as Marauder, other as factionless. And as factionless the fact that someone cannot proceed with story without picking a faction was the deal breaker for me, but that’s not all.
-with the constant struggle to balance pvp, to accommodate the constant complaints of pvp players about feature y an x (this is not meant as criticism to pvp players or their requests), pve suffered a lot of the almost daily changes on gear behavior
-the lack of direct interaction from someone that actually has a saying on game development directions, where this someone talk to the community and ask for improvement ideas to be implemented.

I’d give the game 7/10.

I quit for a number of reasons but here are the top five:

  1. RNG on crafting gear and useless gear drops. I dumped ridiculous amounts of time and coin into bad luck rolls and didn’t get gear that was worth it. As a crafter I felt like I wasted all my time and effort getting to 200 and getting the outfits and major trophies. This hurts so bad when rebalancing happens and your hyper expensive gear is no longer what you want/need to play.

Solution: Let us dump more resources to guarantee specific perks or build exactly what we want. Also return more materials after scrapping bad items that you yourself crafted. Guaranteed GS600+ when town bonus is active if you have clothes and trophies.

  1. As someone with social anxiety it’s hard to put in the energy to carve out a place and make new friends online. Being forced into groups of 5 to do expeditions sucks. My IRL friends would happily do them but they don’t want to play with randoms.

Solution: Scale expedition difficulty from 1 to 5 players.

  1. The faction war and company politics. People make backroom deals and throw wars, wasting time and resources.

Solution: A fourth “un-allied” faction that can set soft alliances for the sake of PVP that can be changed after a one-week time gate. Alternatively, have them auto-align with the weakest faction on the server.

This un-allied faction has a town where tier 5 crafting stations are always available and with lowest taxation rate where that money is evenly distributed to the weakest faction currently holding a region.

People won’t play the game as intended in good faith so let us opt-out.

  1. Wars are always for territory and only A-listers get in.

Solution: Allow skirmishes or exhibition wars that are not linked to territories.

  1. Restrictions on the quest systems.

Solution: Don’t cap how many quests we can have and remove tuning orbs from expeditions for the main quest.

Bonus: The alpha combat looked so good. Skill over gear would make this game so much better.

On a positive note, I appreciate the quality of life changes I noticed when I logged in again a few days back. Storage maintenance was such a pain as well as fast traveling.

THANK YOU for fixing this. This game started out as a hardcore open world PVP and all these features that were designed to improve immersion were really just headaches to the majority of users.

I haven’t quit just yet, but the day is getting closer I think. I love the world. It’s really nice. But…

There is no real end game I can find (or want to play in).

PVP - Quite laughable. I came for this. But … BiS gear gives a massive advantage. For example, a full set of 3 perk BiS equipment (not weapon) Gear that say has Refreshing over the other 2 bis perks, has 8 x 2.8% faster cooldowns. What does this mean? That means 22.4% more actions than your opponent, all else being equable. yes, there is a high skill cap, but unless you can beat the 22% actions per min that your opponent has, then its not really worth bothering. ESO, by example, probably gives a 1% difference between gold tier gear and purple tier. CP level gives big gaps, but they have NOCP campaigns for a reason.

Mutations - great idea, lousy execution. Gear yourself appropriately, and you can steam-roller the content. Very few fights require significant learning by the team, and ironically, its often mini-bosses with weird combinations of Mutation perks that can mess up a run. Again, compare this to ESO, which has significant mechanically details to fights, and actively rewards perfect execution of the team dance. For example, requiring the trifecta perfect runs (HM, no deaths, speed) to get skins and titles.

Making Bank? Whelp, I literally just bought a bunch of resources I didn’t want or need to avoid the gold cap…

Discovering Lore etc? Maybe. But I can’t help feeling that there’s isn’t really much going on between the triangle of Corrupted vs Angry Earth vs Ancients (and with the Lost somewhere in there too).

Honestly? I think you’re done. Every month you losing 5-10% of the player base with no end in sight. Really sad, I wish there was something to be done, the game has good bones, ESO sucked for the first 2 years too.

Mobile loot chest crafting game paired with erratic balance changes. What could go wrong?!

I can’t stress this enough. When you facilitate skill-based systems at the core, you don’t need to worry nearly as much about balance and progression. Perks and build become more about skill-expression instead of min-maxing; People get to play the build they want to play and rely on their ability to carry them instead of picking whatever fucked up meta the devs broke in the most recent patch.

It also gives players a reason to be engaged with the combat and practice and develop themselves.

My post here will probably go unheard, unliked, and uncommented on. That’s alright. It will probably be my last one and maybe the last time I check in on the forums, for at least a while.

Thank you, for reaching out to the community of us that have wanted this game to succeed, but have finally reached our breaking point. It’s appreciated.

Personally, I have approx. 2,100+ hours logged in New World. I enjoyed the game immensely, even with the myriads of bugs/glitches that were considerably game breaking. Many, of which, have been fixed, but also likewise, many are still around.

I feel like many people do not truly understand what goes into making a video game, especially one from an engine a company may have made from scratch. They may, or may not, believe that it’s simply just fix this issue when this happens. It’s more than that. A lot more than that.

With those things in mind, I enjoyed that AGS listened to its community and tried their best to do what they felt was right and in the communities best interest. This caused them to change many core things to their game and streamline things, add QoL, etc, etc. However, listening to the majority is not always the right way, nor the just way.

Many are so focused on the problems of the bugs/glitches, dupping, bots, etc, that they fail to see an underlying issue. AGS has continually, and is continually working on fixing the afore mentioned problems. Yelling at this to fix them more, won’t solve anything. Alerting them to as many of the issues and what causes them, will.

On to the underlying issue that just recently came about. It was something I remember them talking about, and it was something I hoped they would not act on, but they did, because the majority didn’t seem to care since the focus has been and always has been on the bugs/glitches. AGS decided that making changes to the in-game store bought skins would be a good thing.

This seems small, yes? It’s unfortunate that it is not a small thing. When you go to a store, and buy yourself a nice new item (clothing, furniture, electronic), you purchase what you want. It is the agreement between you and the merchant that you purchased what you wanted, and if they give you something of lesser value, you are able to gain a refund. Otherwise, this could be considered a situation of “bait and switch.”

The definition of bait and switch: the action of advertising goods which are an apparent bargain, with the intention of substituting inferior or more expensive goods.

We bought skins in the store for the way they looked. AGS thought it was good to come into our house after selling us a green shirt and then taking it away but giving us a blue one in return. The specific color isn’t what’s important. What’s important? They sold us one thing, then took it away and gave us something we didn’t agree to buy from them.

That is a poor business practice, that has been acted upon by individuals throughout the history of business. I thought more of AGS. I willingly supported them. But after they have shown me this, that they are willing to undue the value of my support, I have grown tired of helping their analytics.

That was the final straw for me. When the game started, and the previous months, the game showed promise and AGS was trying. 10/10 for their effort and continuous hard work.

Now? After the changes they made to items from the in-game store that I did not agree to purchase, 4/10. The 4 being that the game as it stands has come a long way from what it was, and has had many, many issues fixed. Their business practice, however, needs work.

Final comment, if AGS ever reads this. You add to the store, to make more money. You don’t take away what people bought from you and make it what you want it to be. Had you been willing to make variants for the same skin, maybe different color schemes, I’d of been willing to give you more of my money. You made a poor decision with what you have done.

Thank you to anyone who may actually read this in its entirety. Thank you for listening to my rant. I’m sorry if it made your day worse. But I’m really starting to feel like this is a dying game and that’s in part why they released Lost Ark ahead of schedule. In an attempt to make the subsidiary company of Amazon (AGS) have a better revenue for their analytics and overall wallet thickness.

I have much love towards you that are still trying to keep New World afloat. Please, don’t let them abuse you if you’re feeling that way. Step away from the game for a bit and take a breather. Maybe, possibly, in time AGS will get the fires put out and redirect their business practice on NW.
