[Megathread] Why did you quit? AGS needs more feedback!

Putting all the hours into becoming an armorer only to find out that the odds of getting something good are abysmally low, it makes you question why the system exists at all.

If I could spend 10x the materials but choose exactly what I want, I’d totally do that.

Random isn’t fun when the majority of combinations are a waste.
Thanks for that mana regen on my musket…

The fact that it’s so rare to get a good piece means it also drives up the prices of the markets. Do you really want to spend 50k or 100k on a single piece of gear?

I still want to be a crafter but they’re really making it hard.

Someone needs to add the newest DEV video here and flag it as the solution. Not in game yet, but sure seems like it solves a lot of the issues raised in this thread.

What are they implementing that’ll solve what’s above?
Goes off to find video

And that kids, is the last time anyone ever heard from @shawnmurphy13 again! The End!

I quit about 1 month in after launch (265 hours of play time, >1000 hours with betas/alphas).

The game to me was just much too unpolished. Massive lack of balance, no available content, bugs that existed years prior still existed, seemingly no direction for the future, and a severe overabundance of incompetence from the developers. There were two dungeons (which could be completed in roughly 30 minutes max each, and we had to make sure we used our entry orbs sparingly), 30% of the legendaries couldn’t be completed because of Malevolence (which I’m willing to bet is still bugged lmao would be about two years at this point), like 4-5 arenas (which gave no loot, no challenge, and had limited keys you had to sparingly use), the exploits (gold duping, invincibility, botting), and their main end content being rifts (bugged, no loot, constantly turning them off). The game unfortunately was about 15-20 years too early with the talent they chose.

I stayed on the forums because I believed the game had so much promise and potential, but week after after, month after month, the game somehow got worse. The game is worse off than when it was launched, and that seems impossible from the shit show I experienced when it began. I currently only occasionally visit to read posts and laugh at how something that could’ve been a masterpiece turned out to be a pile of shit.

1300 hours
Started playing ESO, where there’s an entire zone devoted to war, build depth is years ahead of NW, and you can craft items while choosing everything from type, perks, enchants, bonuses, down to even how it looks.

The world is so large a mount feels like nw running, pve content is great so far, and it’s nearly impossible to empty your quest log. There’s more questing in 1/3 of a zone of ESO than the entirety of NW.

Oh, the pvp is fantastic too.

I mean - that was a pretty good video! Things look like they’ll be turning around in July

The work isn’t done but it’s definitely on the right track!

Per the vid, my biggest beef is soon to be fixed. So now if only I could get a second character on the same server as my main, that would close up all of my major complaints.

Still playing but stopped doing pvp awhile back since my vg sword would keep despawning without reason as an example. The game with the massive desyncs made me rage more than it made me smile for pvp. Moved on to only do gathering and pve.
And now with the new dev update - hearing they will limit dungeons per day/week will probably be the final straw that bring down my playtime alot since its the only thing i do enjoy atm. Not long until we get dungeon finder so people can do expeditions easier and more often, having limitations on how many you can do ontop of that is just so sad. The disappointment cup never stop overflowing.

Oh shit i didnt know a new video dropped lol let me watch

So I haven’t quit but I play much less than I used to. I have two separate account, one, my main character has about 2600 hours, the other has about 500 hours, I use both now for daily cooldowns, asmo, runic, etc… I have no interest in PVP, so you won’t hear me complaining about weaponn balance or crap like that. I also could give a crap about dupers or cheaters. Bugs, yah they occasionally bug me, but they get corrected pretty quick.

  1. On my main, I have maxed out all skills, and got most good stuff from dungeons, and am GS 625.
  2. There is almost nothing left to do. If there was some kind of additional point system you could earn to boost stats of something, maybe that would help.
  3. Crafting does suck, I spent about 20k today and 400 asmo today to craft armor and got like 4 pieces of lego armor, none of which I could use. Improving equipment for even one piece would take months, its just not fun.
  4. While the increase in resource respawn rate helped, it still should be individual based, like chests.
  5. I have three major loot trophys with my main char and none with my alt char, my alt char gets as much if not more trophy materials than my main char, you need to make luck actually work, like 500% more than today, if it even works at all. AGS needs to publish the actual mechanics and proof behind it.
  6. Fighting 99% of creatures in the world are of no use, you run by them. Make every creature be able to drop recipes, trophy upgrades, etc…
  7. UP the drop rate for leather legendary materials, do you see how much they go for compared to other things. Up the drop rate for all legendary gathering materials if you are wearing the gear, it does not seem like it helps much, again like 500%,
  8. Elite chests are soooooooo unelite. Make trophy materials and recipies 24x more likely to drop since they are on a 24 hour timer. This is such a simple solution. They currently drop nothing of use.
  9. Make dungeons or anything in the world doable by 1 person or more, scaling down the amount of loot that one person would get. If a 5 person Gen group would get 5 pieces of legendary items, the 1 person would get 1 (simplified), scaling down the ease of the dungeon from 5 people to 1.
  10. Make level 4 houses be able to put all your trophys up, scale down based on level of the house, reasons are obvious unless you are a moron
  11. I am under the impression that GS 625 gear is a necessity for M10 dungeons, but in open world it does not make much difference, in open world make us crush stuff if we are at 625!!!
  12. For crafting, if you are really lucky, you can sell something for a crapload. Make it an option to reroll a perk that binds it to you.
  13. Remove the gold cap, there are ways around it anyways, its just a hinderance.
    Thats all for now.

So I have 800 hours ingame, only in release, no betas/alphas. Played since day 5 till december 5, 2 months on the dot. One day I just didnt log in and after that, it was done. Since then Is’ve played maybe on 3 days most, not more than an hour each.

For me it wasn’t one final last straw, more of a series of mistakes and bad decisions leading up to THE GRIND UPDATE where they overhauled crafting and general xp gain in a lot of game systems. But if I had to say one thing where I felt I lost my love for the game, is the shotgun approach to balance and “flattening” the player experience. I’ll try to explain better below, also state some major points where I felt AGS messed up big time. Honestly though its been 9 months kinda so wont remember every bit.

  1. Biggest mistake for me was the general attitude they had to content updates and the path forward of the game. So as we all know, the game was seriously undercooked and unbalanced when it came out, much worse than is now. With that inbalance in place, players were free to choose what they would like to do and how they do it. I remember the first 2 months, every endgame player had their own money making scheme and it was hilarious and interesting to watch and talk about. Also there were so many different ways of tackling the limited content of the game, stupid stuff you could do and it would work.
For example, my scheme was selling any kind of late game weapon, as there werent many late game players at that time and I would pester people to sell it, it even became a joke in our guild. Other players would do chest runs and sell their trophy mats, others would craft etc. Each had their own little thing, and everyone would pitch in to help each other out.
Then the updates start rolling, and one by one they iron out any fun and different way of playing the game. By end of november, everyone was making money the same way and only in 2 or 3 ways. Boring. AGS wanted everyone to play the same way, there was no space for individuality, which for me was something that NW had in abundance at the start. Every single player was forced down the “traditional” way to play, was forced to do the same activities or you wouldnt progress. Good were the days where me and my friends would progress at the same rate doing different things. One could craft, the other would hunt for weapons and shiny trinkets. Now you gotta be everything in 1 and nothing at the same time.

  2. Dupes and their handling of it.
This for me was a huge red flag for the longevity of this game. I have over 2 decades in gaming experience so I could somewhat see where this game was going with these terrible decisions and late handling of a massive issue. First dupe that happened, everyone was stunned, it was like a mythical robbery, everyone was talking about it, who had done it, where, had they got away with it etc. After 2-3 weeks since dupe 1, New World had its name unofficially changed to DUPE WORLD due to constant dupes, some very creative.
The devs did nothing, they tried to PR spin it, put out some shiny graphics saying Voidbent users didnt go up dramatically lol the sheer fuckin hubris they have. Also, blocking trade for players that did nothing for days on end was also a major red flag for me, that these devs have no idea what they’re doing

Next one isnt really a mistake or bad decision, but general issue.

  1. Lack of mid and end game content and also content diversity
This might just be the deciding factor in this games death imho. You can have everything I listed above if you have good content but if you dont…
Everyone can agree that after level 35ish, the game becomes decidedly stale. You fight the same mobs since level 10, the same attack patterns with the same weapons and skills. Its boring as hell. Dungeons play out similarly, dungeon bosses were boring as hell as well. All you had to look for were wars, and they were so swing and miss due to netcode, lag, bugs, movement bugs, jeez the list goes on.

Resuming, the game needed more time in the oven. When I used to play it, I thought 1 year would be enough. 9 months have passed and I think they would have needed 2 or 3 years more.

New World score when it came out: 8/10
now : 5/10

Haven’t quit yet.

Most frustrating things are in PVP

  • CC dominates
  • DPS/Mitigation are not proportionate. You can have both/neither.

I quit, and most of the 100 strong guild/company quit because there was a lack of solo content to do - leading to no-one being online to do group content.

If there was more to do than just farming for gold (which was easy) - I’d still be playing as would many others I know.

TLDR - The game quit me, it offered nothing to do - so I saw no reason to log on.

Yep that’s be my third, solo PvE is gathering gypsum. Just more time gating delays to cover for no new content.

What’s the best the next PvE release is another fricking expedition.

I’ve done about 10 ever and played since day 1.

I’m not gambling my time on RNG to hope I get a BiS piece for PvP.

How you guys liking the GC change ?

Glad to read that, I thought I was the only one wanting more characters on the same server.

The main draw for me is the PVP content, and interesting expeditions. I have mostly all the gear I want for PVP, and I have the umbral to upgrade them. PVP has been the main incentive for me to log in, and I’m not enjoying it.

Expeditions - I don’t like trying to find different gear for each m10 expedition. It gets boring repeating expeditions.

3v3 - I prefer large scale battles, and the pvp ranks up slow. I would consider doing more 3v3 if the pvp rank scaled up faster

OPR - I like the larger scale of this. Repeating OPR gets boring after a while. Its also demoralizing when you know the enemy team is going to win. Most people will wait till about a 100-200 point lead on the other team and leave OPR, because they don’t want to wait 30 min to lose. There are a lot of improvements that could be made to OPR to make it more interesting. One that comes to mind is to make artillery actually be effective (Maybe double the damage of all artillery and make them a target?)

Open world - non-existent. If you die in open world combat finding your way back into a fight takes too long. Not enough players in open world pvping. GC was good, because if you did die you were close respawn to the combat. Open world pvp was the main draw for me.

Wars - Even with BIS gear I’m not likely to get chosen. I’ve only done 3 wars. They also look all the same. OPR has a lot more going on than wars. Wars are boring.

There was the whole duping, marketplace being locked several times. The rents being way too high to start with + combination of not being able to make money took alot of wnjoyment away.
But fine bugs happen

I dont mind the expertise system as such, i such disliked that the only way to get it up was opening chests. Chest runs are boring as hell.

You then rebalanced weapons, fine but you retroactively changed rarities of weapons aswell. My purple shield with the specific perks i wantes got downgraded to blue and left me with the least desireable perk of the 2.
You do not do this.

The final straw however was timegating dungeons and giving the pvp luck bonus. Ags keeps catering to a minority playerbase because they are vocal on the forums.
Weapons and classes keep being rebalanced, wouldnt be a problem however the reason is always because pvp.
You just want pvpers fine no problem. Ill keep an eye out to see how the game does, but i aint playing it anymore.
Recent changes have tempted me coming back but i am afraid it is a case of too little too late.
