Exactly – Rapier is at best the top SECONDARY weapon, but you aren’t finishing anyone with it that wasn’t already dead. It’s almost purely a mobility weapon in PvP. Why can’t that be allowed? Its unfortunate for the health of any game that people will complain about literally anything because they haven’t figured out how to adapt to their PvP meta environment, which could be any number of things, and ALWAYS get what they want. That doesn’t mean to say that things couldn’t be “tuned” or the system of combat couldn’t use some tweaking, but ALWAYS calling for nerfs because you can’t figure out how to beat certain types of weapons is cancer. Some weapons and players will inherently be stronger and it is literally impossible to get perfect balance. Find something you like to play and figure out how to do well with it instead of ALWAYS asking for nerfs. I don’t play VG or IG, or Hammer, and their CCs are generally the reason why I die when I die. I don’t want them nerfed though to be honest. With a CC-meta heavy game like New World I feel like it is about your positioning in the fray or staying out of that range if you don’t have the mitigation. Anyways, I’m opposed to calling for any nerfs, but rather some subtle tuning and gradually see what happens. If you disagree that’s cool! See you guys in game!
Some feedback.
You can attack into rapier riposte and dodge the parry. With bloodlust you just got to keep on them go bait out their dodges. However if they just choose to run there isn’t anything that can stop them.
Void gauntlet blade has almost no tracking on a moving target. The trick is to run away forcing them to not fight in their oblivion, if you then dodge their scream you should be pretty safe to use your attack rotation
This was the majority of forum whiners back before gaxe got nerfed btw, every day whining about gaxe despite multiple weapons hard countering gaxe (two of the hardest counters are VG and rapier and somehow almost nobody on the forums complained about how bullshit VG and rapier were back then)
Just face it man VG is the most broken weapon in the game, ive seen healers with no int taking out 4 ppl at once with VG. Rapier riposte is bull as well, infinite sustain, aoe damage negation and long stun with a crazy low CD
Riposte should not be a stationary skill where you negate damage and get a free stun.
None of that makes sense with a rapier.
Its not a defensive sword. Its a thin blade and weighs nothing.
Not only should it not negate damage like a full effectiveness block vs many sources without stamina, but it should not stun anything.
The solution here is to keep rapier as the “movement” weapon that it should be and replace the stupid mechanics of riposte entirely because they are nonsensical. Don’t change the cooldown or it will just be the same broken thing less often.
Instead of a stationary skill where you magically block a bunch of things for no cost, make it a movement attack skill that still has a defensive benefit like shield rush so it can be used to break an attack chain.
Give it a new set of animations, where its a quick stepping movement skill with the sword being rotated quickly in couple defensive moulinet movements. If it catches an attack on it during that animation you get an instant animation cancelling thrust attack that penetrates armor or has grit and stagger.
No stuns. No weird looking magic blocking that works on many things at once.
It could be an awesome skill move and used with good timing to absorb a single attack and turn the tables instantly on someone. You have it soak up a fireball or arrow for a quick second the same way maelstrom does and it would still probably be fine. You could still use it to evade directly after the thrust.
As it is, its a weird stationary moonwalk thing that looks dumb, is antithetical to how a fencing sword works, and its overpowered compared to dodge and block for no reason.
riposte is a parry… parries literally negate damage.
Its actually not even working as it should. The stun should be guaranteed. When ppl could jump out of reap they added root to it.
Actually a riposte is a followup attack AFTER a parry.
The parry itself is the deflection of the incoming weapon, and any swordsman worth a darn does not put all their eggs in one basket and count on the parry alone. You double you chances of avoiding a hit, by moving out of its path WHILE ALSO deflecting or redirecting their weapon with yours.
A riposte is what you do when you’ve displaced their weapon with your parry.
Its an attack directed at the opening you have created in their gaurd when you parried their blade or when you moved during their attack.
If you just stop their weapon, its called a block. We already have that in the game and it’s sadly underused because dodge and riposte are way better in every way.
A riposte is not a magical thing where you absorb fireballs for 5 seconds and there’s no way any stabbing weapon that weighs a couple pounds at most should STUN.
Look at the other sources of stun in the game. They are blunt weapons with weight behind them. Either a giant hammer, or your entire body weight thrown at them with a foot leading the way.
