Multiple things can be bad for growing the PVP scene. They are not mutually exclusive.
I think you overestimate that a bit. Most melees don’t manage to consistently stick to me. 1 hit into the air sets you back a lot. Range just needs 3-4 shots to kill while being 30m+ away.
Like what? Serious question. I mostly play new world and overwatch 2. Both aren’t that great, hah.
I think both melee and range are OP in different situations, which might have been intentional, but it doesn’t make the game very fun. It leads to a lot of unwinnable situations for both parties (mow a melee down from distance with a musket or the melee is stuck to the range character with no possibility of escape). It doesn’t feel like you outplay anyone anymore. It feels mostly like my build beats your build in this situation or your build beats mine.
I don’t really blame AGS. It’s probably hard to balance something like New World. I would probably try to make all builds melee-centric, so fighting from extreme ranges or running away isn’t possible. Mages are probably okay (the FS can have crazy damage sometimes, though). If they removed the bow’s evade shot and haste they’d probably be okay. Then rework the musket to be bow-like (projectile, decent range damage, 150 to 200 constitution, no haste or escape abilities on musket). I would then probably revert the recent changes to dodge, but then maybe increase melee tracking distances for some weapons.
Nah hit scan needs to go on musket or totally do away with it.
Point, click, instant hit with musket is not the same as telegraphing a movement with any other class in the game.
That’s why PvP queues in New World takes over 2 hours to get a match outside of the 4 hours of peak time on the majority of servers. Only a niche subset of PvPers are interested in this type of braindead PvP.
Meanwhile in other MMOs even at 3am I can get a 5v5 queue in less than 5 minutes.
Eh that probably has more to do with cross server queing. What MMOs? I find the combat in most MMOs pretty boring.
yeah dude, just point and click -players who have never played Hitscan FPS games like CSGO/Valorant
Looks like Ranged dps in New world is tab-target according to melee players who believe that aiming isn’t a form of skill.
It’s hard to balance because they are trying to make some casual friendly PvP system, which has 3 abilities, mostly AOE, auto lock-on. When you make such a basic “noob friendly, appeal to the masses” combat system it appears to actually have the opposite effect than what they hoped. It becomes very hard to balance, it becomes frustraiting and generally drives away the more hardcore type of players.
If you make a more skill based system, people cry less about weapons, also weapons become less of an issue because skill > gear.
Some people like new world’s combat and thats fair enough. But im sorry, it is not skill based. Of course there is some skill in pressing dodge when an enemy uses an ability… but really, thats the bar is it? xD Combat should be faster, smoother, less or no movement impairing mechanics, skill shots. When I play new world I genuinely feel like im not trying to out play my oponent, but work around the restrictions the game forces upon me. It’s not fun.
I feel like i play more time against Server dsync errors wich teleport me inside clunks rather than fighting another player. Its like a survival horror game, u gotta stay Alive fighting an invisible enemy xd
While I don’t think range needs a buff it’s kinda funny how true what your saying is xD
You feel that way because assassin builds are made to kill ranged and healers
You’re practically complaining about dying
I agree with you, ranged player should never die, we should get a permanent defy death activated
user error.
Nice try at a troll. Won’t work. Ranged can hit from one outpost to another and a host of other unfair advantages. The map is wide open so they can freely snipe.
Try again.
Thank you for giving your input on how the OPR map needs balancing. Any thoughts on weapons?
“Assassin’s” - melee in light armour. So can range play a heavier armour style to counter assassin’s? No. Can melee don heavier armour and have a different style of play that involves point pushing, being a bruiser? Yes.
Anyway I thought AGS were creating a game that didn’t have classes and didn’t want X build defeats Y build, thought this was a skill based game.
10/10 for trolling. gg
Lame response from a melee player.
Im a mage since beta ![]()
Why and how? This kills the health of the game so are you sure its still funny?
Yeah, I’m positive. Asking for ranged buffs in new world is absolutely hysterical.
