To be fair, melee complaining about OPR is justified. Because in OPR, ranged is OP. It doesn’t matter what happens in other modes. Or shouldn’t. The REAL issue is that AGS balances all modes the same way.
This game is badly in need of mode-specific balancing. Healing, for example, in OPR is often obscene. But if they nerf it game-wide it will impact Expeditions, which are balanced around high healing.
Melees went crazy and completly lose their minds. “Arguments” like “We do not wants ranges in OPR” sounds like a call for extermination.

Ranged IS OP in OPR, the range should be cut in half. Ranged weapons have the range of sniper rifles in a game where 1/2 of the weapons are melee. There is just no way to balance it properly with such a range disparity.
And no, I am not Melee at all. I have just played 1000’s of games and know there is a reason why developers of games with mix-range weapons always impose significant range restrictions. Balance. Something AGS developers don’t seem to understand.
Sniping melee players from 100+ meters is borderline griefing, yet it’s not just allowed, but encouraged by the devs as they designed the game that way.
If you are a free kill to a gs as a mage or any ranged - try hitting him first instead of waiting for him to start hitting you.

Bow hitbox needs changing, but apart from this it isn’t broken.
Musket has the lowest DPS from all builds, hitscan and severe lack of cover and abundance of high ground in opr really props it up.
Just give more proper cover in opr.
Remove trees and foliage and put some ruins dotted around the map.

Seriously it doesn’t help to do light/heavy attack for mages because of the 2 sec walking animations. Bow and muskets at least do a better range attack than mages.

Last night I had the reverse of what the norm is and had a stacked melee roster on the other team.
I’d be done getting one guys great sword cool-downs out then get swamped by 3 other great swords
There was actually a point where I’d run out of stamina at full hp, got grav well and then 4 dudes with great swords rolled over me with RR all at the same time from 3 different directions.
It actually made me laugh because I basically got put into a meat blender
If you think that it is fun getting constantly killed by feral archers and mages that most of time you cant see …then …try melee …you will enjoy it.
Last time melee guys had number 1 spot in OPR was probably in June .
I still have melee active build, friends also and being top OPR 1-5 is not hard. Most people do not even use consumes and cry. Min/max always use stat food, honing stones and azoth essences for additional opr food - it’s huge advantage… At the beginning of OPR most people pass wolves and do not bother with them when min/max player kills it first, gets essences and buys opr food. Honestly getting kills is much easier with melee, many of them just stands in the heal bubble at point and you get kills via cleave and burning cds or ambush backstabs - the last one, ambush has some kind of tactic and skill gap but the first is just LBM clownfiesta and nothing else and that’s how majority of melee plays and still gets satisfying results. LBM sticks my victim to melee weapon, killing people with melee build never was easier.
Most melees have no idea how to beheave when they encounter range in melee of 20-30 meters - they just run straight in the line trying to desperately reach you making them so vulnerable. You can recognize skilled player within 15 seconds via looking at his behaviour, movement and that’s what makes difference and makes second one harder to hit. Not mention they do not rush things sometimes like a zombie which just follow human’s trying to eat their brains. They sneak and ambush you from behind. People watch yt guide, meta video, choose top of the list and that’s all, they think they are already min/maxers and if sth goes wrong they blame other builds, everything around but not their gameplay.
We are playing in era of min/max where so many guides, datas are available but actually minority pushes it to the limits and invest time to know all mechanics, enemies skills, cons and pros.
The most important weapons like gaxe, gs, war hammers are the most popular according to steam stats and datas. Bow is just barely 5% when for example hatchet is 12 or gaxe 11 % but people still write fairytales they see 20-25 bow users or muskets lmao ![]()
It’s just not fun to get 3k hits from far away by musket/bows, and if you actually made it to their melee range, they just run away using Rapier. This kind of gameplay does not fit this game, it’s unfair, boring and overall just dumb.

It is mega unfun but likely nothing will be done about it for a while until we get a new map with more cover. Nothing worse than being in a sick melee fight just to get hit with a Pen Shot from some dude miles away.
Its funny watching people cry oh range users are this and melee users are that in oprs or wars when THE REALPROBLEM IS MORTAL EMPOWERMENT THE CRUTCH PERK THAT GIVES YOU +30% DAMAGE WITH 15 STACKS WHICH IS EZ FOR A RANGED TO STEAL KILL IN AN OPR OR WAR!!
Sorry but I dont care what steam says. All you see are bows in PvP, exclusively PvP. I dont care how many people are using other weapons outside of PvP and steam doent know the difference between both so really shit metrics to use. If there was a way to measure specifically PvP weapon usage youd see bow at the vast majority right next to great sword so spare me.
Is this a strategy from beta? Better to have the med melees build a wall in front of the point and have your heals/rangeds cap it. Get rid of the useless heavies, they don’t deal any dmg.
It’s only general descrpition of war’s target… hold/cap point. 5/50/100 con Light armor range is bad choice to stay inside cap where the largest lmbs and skill spam content have place( This is also very general)
Melee complain because there is nowhere to go to get relief from snipers… and approaching any one of them means the rest shooting you.

They need to offset the doors of the forts so you can’t just shot through it.

Walls need to be higher so they can’t sit in cliffs and shoot into fort

May need to add a small keep or tower in center to stop LOS through forts
These changes would allow melee to have a place to dominate opr without being constantly tortured by range. If range wants to plink they have to come in and sit in the ramparts. This at least gives melee a chance to hit them as they run by.
