i used my free transfer token to get to a healthy server, but shortly after the paid transfers came out that server has slowly bled players, on top of the normal player loss over time the paid transfers killed the population even faster.
OPR queue times are personally my largest concerns as far as player population goes, i actually enjoy lower population servers, but i also very much enjoy OPR it is the only form of PVP in the game that is playable currently(and i am not interested in 3v3 at all), wars are a waste of time as far as im concerned(do not enjoy the lag fest) and open world pvp is a joke/non-exsistant(i dont like open world or small scale pvp anyway so thats fine to me)
we need cross-realm OPR queue ASAP or alot of players may lose their only fun game mode
buying a realm transfer is not completely out of the question for me, just i will not buy a transfer token only to be back in this same situation(inadequate population to play modes i enjoy) in a few days/weeks
THIS. That’s all that needs to be done. I don’t even think mergers will help, once another server gets “Hot” people will bounce. Cross Server OPR and Expeditions would be the ultimate solution.
I’m also from Ohonoo. To have Ohonoo merge into Orun and Pluto merge into Valhalla would be the move for numbers / population to be in line with Maramma, Castle of Steel and Orofena numbers. Ohonoo is still losing companies and will dwindle the player base even lower by next Monday over the weekend. Also note, the bots make up 10% of players in a server. All the tokens in the world wouldn’t make anything better, players will just run to the next higher populated server and that’s all we can do before there’s a merge to consider.
On the other side of the coin, with the Summer and Fall updates, it would promote returning players to “check out” the new content then leave until the next content comes out due to rushing through content then complain there’s nothing to do but at least it would “bump” player base in servers for a moment. IMHO, the Fall update will bring back returning players by a large margin since the Fall content will include the new zone, Brimstone Sands and The Great Sword which many players have set their sights on. I can see how AGS “may be” hesitant to merge right now because of how many remaining dedicated server are right now, but, the Fall content is still quite a ways away so, until then AGS can play around moving or crunching servers and I doubt players would be upset about merges currently, but until then players will transfer when they want to.
To be fair, it isn’t fully Amazon’s fault now that major companies pack up and move. It seems to be a trend with them. They will flood a server. Take over for awhile. Get bored and then move on to the next server because they want fresh new pvp and not fighting the same people. So right now Maramma is the FOTM server but in time the same companies who just moved there from Orun etc. will end up moving again in a couple of months.
Not saying those servers you mentioned don’t need to be merged but just saying right now on East with these companies who server hop, it will be hard to know what the next FOTM will be. If anything, I feel bad for west because a lot of those players moved to East leaving their few servers fairly empty.
So how would you set up this faction system for 3 factions etc?
Most mmos do this. Sorry, but that would be stupid on Amazon’s part to not open up faction tokens. If you mean the free ones, they had no choice. Yeah they made tons of unneeded servers in the beginning instead of maybe upping the cap some first etc. but since the population is small, AGS can’t control these mega companies who server hop now.
I’ve been trying to play OPR on Orun for the last two days, but every time I log on not enough people are queueing up. Orun use to have 200/40 in the OPR queues. So sad.
I would have had single faction servers. Then have those servers war with 2 other servers in a cross server area so that I’m offloading my pvp performance to a separate server. I’d have damn near everything in this game operate regionally (OPR, GvG, Arenas, Dungeons, TP) instead of being pegged to a single server. Half of the problems we have currently would be non issues.
How I’d fix the craptastic faction system going forward:
Hope that’s not true. A lot of people, including myself, will not pay $14 to transfer a character to a server that will probably die in a few weeks. I’m currently on my 3rd server. All three servers I played on previously had >1500 players at one point, and they all ultimately fell down to 200-300 range.
The game plays best with 1000+ people per server. If AGS wants the game to survive they need to keep the remaining servers populated.
Consider merging Orun with ohonoo and maybe Pluto. A bunch of players have transferred off of Orun in recent days.
I know you want to make some money, but if like all of the 500 people on Orun transfer you’re only going to make $7500 pre-tax. It’s a meaningless amount of money for you guys at this point.
Just do good by us, your loyal fans, and merge the servers so we can enjoy the last few months of new world.
I’m not a big fan of war. I much rather OPR, arena or open world pvp. We do get some OPR on my server, but the matches are always super unbalanced 1000 to <500. Not much open world pvp or arenas, though.
But, I know what you mean. I like 800-1000 player servers the best. There are people around, but it’s not too crowded.
Even though I am from Ohonoo, Pluto is in the same boat as Orun. It would be ideal to merge Orun + Pluto into Ohonoo to be in line with the remaining servers. Having Orun and Pluto’s current numbers until fall with the new zone isn’t ideal honestly. I’m sure both servers would like a merge instead of using their transfer tokens. If they wanna merge servers now for the Orun and Pluto players to have a better experience in a more populated server within Ohonoo, this would be the time. AGS can definitely can re-enable “past” servers if the saturation is too high when Brimstone Sands content is releases. I highly doubt the summer content will have a major impact on server population to include queues. The game has been out long enough for AGS and players to know some content will bring back players by droves while some may not after the initial hype is over when the dust settles.
February was the last time NW seen a spike in players, until then, sadly, it’s been on a decline, as expected for any game when content has it’s peek then fall when players wanted to see what all the hype was about. Fall in my opinion AGS will see players come back for that major content.
As long as the cross server is limited to regions. This is mostly because you wouldn’t want to have the ping delay between someone in US East and a server in the AP Southeast region.
They should merge all old servers into 1-3 servers depending of population for each region and eventually create a new server in each region where transfers are not allowed for 3-6 months.
I have the opposite problem. Toxic people keep transferring into my server. Wish that would stop. TBF there were some cool people that transferred in as well.
