Merging Auction Houses is a very lazy and unimaginative fix

it is only make it annoying for people to buy stuff without giving any positive game play experience.

can i afford the azoth? yes
does it make the game more fun to play? no, it is just simply adding extra unncessary traveling
does it really do anything for economy? no, because people will still sell at trading hub. the remoted settlement still won’t get the tax. price is still centralized and normalized at hub.

here is a problem for remote settlement:

  • no trading tax = less income
  • no income = no upgrade and upkeep payment
  • no upgrade = no crafter
  • no crafter = no one need to buy stuff in that settlement
  • no buyer = no one want to sell stuff there
  • no seller = no trade
  • no trade, no craft = dead settlement

basically that settlement will just die. you are not making any locallzied economy. those settlement are simply just going to die.

All correct. And I want to add no trade = no housing.

At the current Game condition, separated Trading House shouldn’t be implemented in this game.

Separated Trading Post should be something that exist in road map, after they tweak the balance of resource in this game, improved on how resource used on crafting system and Improve the coding so more players can be accommodated in each server.

Two things that separated Trading Post is not working right at the moment,

  1. Lack of server capacity. The server capacity is roughly 2250 players. This is small for an MMORPG. One of the reason there is only 2 active markets is because the population can only support 2 active markets.

  2. Balance of resource. Wealth distribution and player distribution is closely linked. Players gather in WW and EF, because WW and EF are rich in resource. This need to be rebalanced.
2.1. I suggest that starting area only have small node of resource and Higher level area have large node of resource. The way rawhide work, that larger level animal provide more hide.
2.2. “This Land is My Land” Make heavy penalty on gathering resource on area where your faction is not the ruling faction. Like 50% penalty of resource gathered.

Even if the server was filled… You’d have 2000 people, spread over several towns responsible for the ‘economy’.

The player count per server is way too small to spread markets over several towns, not to mention many server now have very few players on them, I can only imagine how their market prices look.

Players are leaving because there are way to many pointless time syncs in this game, at least, the ones I’ve talked to.

I personally have the same opinion, and I thing merging the markets into one global market is one small step into the right direction.

Do you see any auctions?
There are no auction houses, get that through your head.

Hmm, I would add another factor that cause wealth to be distributed in WW and EF.

  1. Lack of Mobility. Cost of recall using Azoth when your inventory is full is too high. I know, azoth is easy to get, just do outpost rush, etc. But, they are still significant when the cost if 400+ azoth per recall. Reduce mobility = reduce wealth transport. Increased mobility = more distributed wealth. I suggest reducing cost of Azoth by 75% for transport. That will be a safer fix than linking trading post.

also there is no reason for people to spread out.

in real world one major reason to spread out is jobs. jobs attract population, and population build a community, which build up trades and local economy. also limited number of jobs will restrict number of population growth and people who need to seek jobs when local have no jobs will move to another town. that’s how spreading work

in game, we don’t have local jobs. there is no reason for us to stay in one place. also teleport make it easy to move to another place so players can just pick one place as their home and they can go anywhere.

so “local” economy isn’t really going to work unless they do massive overhaul

Okay…

Thanks to those people that really spent time giving constructive feedback…I really do appreciate it.

You have changed my mind.

The merging of auction houses is really the only way to spread people out. I was obviously just looking at it wrong.

Thanks everyone

Being lazy isn’t the same as not wanting to spend you whole play session walking from an outlaying region to a trading hub. Global trade hubs let people better manage playtime with doing what they want in regions they want rather then walking from point a to b or grinding azoth to be able to afford to travel .

I think this is a somewhat good change, but it would be made better if that trade hubs were grouped by faction.

For example, If Everfall + Reek + First Light belonged to syndicate then the trade hubs would be linked, otherwise not.

I think this would give a new incentive for wars.

Towns are dead

I like that idea.

It would work like the current bank system and so already has precedence in the game.

Interesting in theory but I would hate to see what kind of exploits this would spawn.

Yeah I already said I was wrong

I still believe that unifying is nonsense and I think one of the most viable solutions would be the one I posted:

They can leave the auction the way it is. as long as the trading post allows trading amongst all the settlements. With an interlinked trading post system I have no issues with what they do to the auction halls. Can’t ever find them anyways

“their solution is lazy but i have no clue how to fix it!”

All I needed to see. Not interested in the armchair quarterback who likes to shoot down ideas but doesn’t have any of his own.

kid-pointing

This local trading post system would be good if resources weren’t spread across the map as much as they are now and they increased the fast travel cost when lugging more than your bodyweight. Right now I have no incentive to just buy a house in Windsward, farm my mats somewhere else and cheaply teleport back to WW to sell.

Why do you confuse trading with selling on AH?

And how would the linked AH change anything to you ase a trader in this case?
This makes no sense man.

If you are trading with people with lower price than the market anywhere. With the linked market system, people will still travel to you to trade for the lower price.
How does this system affect you?
