I’m assuming you’ve played the game but are unaware that it has weathered and lasted much longer than most mmo’s. It was launched in 2001 that’s 21 years of active players and content releases.
That’s not falling short.
FFXIV? Please explain how this game has fallen short in any way except for pvp’rs?
Neverwinter is a p2p nightmare for most folks. So I’ll go along with you on this one.
While LotRO did really well at first it admittedly died off (even if it’s still around). Not sure that pvp was really the cause.
I know nothing of PoE except it seems to continue making enough money for them to be launching another version soon.
SWTOR failed for far more reasons than lack of pvp. The history of Star Wars games has been fraught for a long time. Again, not sure how lack of pvp was responsible for it’s downfall.
In fact I’m beginning to see a pattern in your claim.
You assert with no evidence or even basis for your claim that the games listed all failed because of a lack of pvp.
It would be good to see any links you have to information that led you to this conclusion.
Also, the lack of open world pvp activity is far more a function of people who prefer not to participate in that kind of pvp. The only responsibility there is on the shoulders of people who expect others to play the game their way and participate in pvp.
path of exile = not an mmo.
neverwinter = no idea how much pvp it has. never really played it.
swtor = well pve is definitely the main focus of the game (amazing story telling btw) however pvp is still a thing and for many ppl the main reason why they play it.
lotro = true, very little pvp
FF14 = also true, pvp isnt even a factor in that game.
runescape = uhm, wilderness, hello? pvp is very very much a thing here.
BDO = are you kidding me? the whole point of that game is pvp and territory control. there is literally no other reason to grind up your gs other than to pvp.
I dont think You played Path of exile, Neverwinter. coz I have beta tested both of them and played. I dont remember gathering grass, or mining …etc in POE. the game is full loot drop ARPG. with fun PVP.
NW is complete mechanical copy of Dark Souls, BB with graphics of Witcher, added touch of Crafting and end game PVP with broken ARPG loot drop.
it is what now? there is literally not a single souls mechanic in this game. there is no stagger, attacking doesnt cost stamina, you cant parry in NW. there are no sprint/lunge attacks. this game has absolutely nothing on souls combat.
Remember the Times when Diablo 3 fked from auction house, and small devs came from Newzeland with POE to fulfill the Diabolic need of fans. you dont coz you never played OG.
and for DS vs NW, Whole Invincibility frame and roll mechanics are Core of game. you can add any weapon topping or change around but you cnt change core. I even use most mechanic from DS like charging heavy on flatten enemy.
literally cant make sense of any of that but ill try to guess.
i have played PoE back when it only had 3 acts that you had to play through on 3 difficulties to get to maps (that was a long time before the atlas) i cant recall any point in time when PoE was full loot. there was hardcore mode like in all arpgs but no full loot.
there is a whole bunch of games that have iframes and light and heavy attacks. those arent core mechanics of souls. core mechanics of souls are stamina management (non existent in NW) stagger (non existent in NW) and also the fact that defensive play > offensive play which is totally opposite in NW. this game may have taken some inspiration from souls games but they havent taken anything from it that makes a souls game a souls game. well they had stagger but they removed it so there is that.
How can you say SWTOR fell short? It was released in 2011 and is still going?
LOTRO’s still got a decent player bases and that was released in 2007. And FFIV?
In fact, all of those games except maybe Neverwinter, exceeded the expectations of both their developers and their audience. It would be awesome if NW failed like that. We’ll still be playing 10 years from now.
tbh SWTOR had insane expectations and kinda did fall short. the game started with 800k players, which was insane at the time and plummeted hard after 1 month. it was and still is a good game tho but it also had shortcomings. ilum pretty much beeing so laggy and broken that they actually had to remove and redesign it as a pve planet f.e. companions beeing utterly broken in OWpvp etc. and lets be honest huttball was fun at first but after the 500th match it made you wanna jump off a cliff irl.
its not a bad game by any means and i wouldnt consider it a fail but it definitely didnt live up to its full potential either.
I mean we killed two servers at launch for swtor by camping the pvp planet you needed to go to for end game gear dailies. I think that is why they moved away from it
you dont use caps in english for anything other than at the start of a sentence or a name. also this is the internet. idgaf if you dont use caps or use abbreviations that are only known on the internet and not commonly used in the real world but when your post is so messed up that i have to read it 3 times and still cant be 100% sure what you actually meant i will ask you to rephrase it.
true i guess but i think if the engine was actually able to handle the zerg battles of ilum it could have worked out different. i spent most of my endgame time on ilum (away from the zerg area) and just ganked ppl doing the dailys all day so i guess i was kinda part of the problem but it was fun as hell.
I mean I had a great time. My company got to 60 first and were ahead. Republics couldnt do anything then all rerolled another server. After a day of only huttball vs ourselves we rerolled to another server. By the time we got to T2 pvp gear we were decimating the republics that had been there since launch whilst also camping ilum again. Then this server rerolled too lol
yea well… carebear themeparks… those ppl dont fight. they just run when it gets rough. First to the forum to cry and then to another server and eventually to another game.
And thus is what happened to SWTOR.
was a shame cos the game had insanely good story telling (maybe im bias cos i like SW) and surprisingly skill based pvp. the game could have made it big if they made it less of a themepark and more like SWG.
