I feel like there were some very clear lessons learned last time:
- House taxes
- Town taxes
- Wars
- Invasions
- Lost time on TP listings
- The way players use the TP as storage and basically can’t function without it
And probably more.
Each of these has what should be a simple solution that should have been immediately in the works for a worse case scenario where wealth transfer needed to be disabled again in the future.
- House taxes
- Town taxes
- Wars
- Invasions
- Lost time on TP listings
All of these have the same or similar solutions: Pause all timers related to these so that the moment the wealth transfer is disabled, time stops ticking for these.
- The way players use the TP as storage and basically can’t function without it
This one has a lot of potential solutions.
- Free azoth travel so you can store shit in other towns even the far north ones.
- Temporary modification of baseline storage space in towns.
- Allow people to list items on the TP even though they can’t be bought (ya’ll’re gonna remove all the duped items and stuff from the system anyway right?)
- Distribute potions of “Whoops, I did it again!” that give +9000 encumbrance for 72h, or employ a similar global buff/status effect or something.
Solutions are pretty limitless here. I’m sure some of it requires a certain amount of code-tinkering and testing, but others there’s surely easy-ish ways to design/test/implement.
And none of it was prioritized or finished in time for the next emergency.
We’re all still patiently waiting on the last promise of a “make good” for the impact of the last wealth transfer disabled occurrence. And by patiently I mean skeptically assuming the worst about what we’ll actually get as compensation.
One last thing that AGS has failed utterly at:
Making me feel listened to, or heard. The banning of dupers and exploiters has been a given all along, telling me you’re finally getting around to competently executing on that front is the “minimum viable product” here. I wanna hear more about what you’re doing to make up for it, and what you’re doing to ensure the next time you guys need to do something like this you’ve planned for it in a way where you’ve successfully minimized how awful everything is during that time.
