My issue with posts like this is that people are coaxed into the torch and pitch fork mentality. Rather than think hey that looked pretty cool and learn how to do it as a skill based meta for the game. Using animation cancels to take the game from a vanilla experience to an experience that has to be learned either through discovery and trial and error or someone actually taking you under theor wing and teaching you. Similar to basic side scrolling street fighter. If all you could do was kick and punch, the game would be very boring then all of a sudden someone whips out a haduken it would be a piss poor thing for you to scream out EXPLOIT!!! Because it would prevent further advancements in the community to bring the game into a new and better place.
Instead of saying thats an exploit, ask for a comparable ability to contrast that other weapons ability. If your enemy can dash towards you, then ask for an ability to uppercut that player as a parry or trap that player as a counter move.
No i saw it. I just think that with no mounts, that the game should have some kind of mobility enhancer that can be utilized in a combat setting. While individually this looks like a cheap gimmick, but if everyone has an ability to huck themselves forward some extended distance that rivals the great axe’s charge attack than this game opens up new opportunities for how we approach platforms and traversal from one point to another in both pvp and pve settings. If this were implemented the great axe may need a different ability to compensate but i can see this being very fun for everyone. If you consider that other games have animation cancels to thank for their success. Gunz online comes to my mind. The reason why its not nearly as popular is that the game devs for that game couldnt replicate their first system because someone leaked the source code and opened the fload gates for modders. So they doubled down saying that the techniques made by the fans werent the way the game was designed to be played so they cut that ability out of the game in the same way new world has already cut a lot of its animation cancels but the fans quit gunz two. Almost as soon as they installed it long enough to realise what the devs did. They later admitted that they have no idea how to replicate that glitch. Fast forward to new world. The void gauntlet had a dash ability that took 2 spells to accomplish and the ability could be whiffed accidently. So there was an honest risk and reward factor to it. But dummies just saw it as an exploit rather than a feature worth ensuring the devs nurture that and spreading it to the other weapons in the form of combining two spells to achieve different results. The TLDR is that the game had a more in depth combo system in the making but fans were to stupid to recognize a good thing
The problem with animation cancels is that not all weapons can do it. And some weapons have much better animation cancels than others… because this games combat was not designed with animation cancels in mind.
Thats what ive been saying. Make sure all weapons have animation cancels. And yes some weapon cancels might be better for some people in the same way that some people like one martial art over another at that point.
Or we try to convince people by showing them that there is another path that they could take. By asking them well what would be a good attack move that could counter this glitch. So they both fit in the game as a new feature? Try to engage them into asking their own questions.
