The root is only 3 seconds. It gets combined either with 2 shots (3 in stance) or a timed sticky bomb.
Both can easily be dodged. The traps was useful because it made both u dodgable. Now the traps are basically useless again of enemies can simply dodge once or twice during the short 3 sec time.
Traps need a buff or rework.
This whole dodge root change does not seem to be thought through thoroughly.

Would be cool if they would redesign the trapper tree to a more melee ranged build in my opinion. Good traps, good bombs, more utility/mobility. Dont need 2 sniper specs where one have as you mentioned, kinda useless traps.
When you land a trap youve almost no time nor enough dmg to kill them during that time because of animation locks. Compare that to the bb…
I just like the spec so far because it feels like youre more of a support. Would happily see them evolve the tree in either route, - to a melee burst trapper or more support.
Ye the issue in my opinion havent been the trap itself. Its the way too long animations to use them. Youre basically stunlocked while walking around tossing it, and then uve more animation to toss the other bomb, and more animation to begin the shooter stance or whatever. And by the time you can begin dmg theyre already out of the trap most of the times.
Trapper would be way more fun and easier/popular to use if you didnt have these long animations. Let me just toss the damn trap lol. Or rework the ability overall, make it instant but youll toss 2-3 traps around you in random directions.
well ye u can stun them for a longer time if you double trap em, not like thats doing anything useful unless ur teammates kill em which is my point ^^ If you meet a bad geared person you can have enough time to do dmg, but overall no because of the long animations.
And yeah the slightest dmg the trap is destroyed which is also just bad.
My dream scenario for a new trapper rework would be something like pistols in melee range. You have your traps, your sticky bomb, and maybe an ability like rapid shot where you would leap backwards and shoot 3 bullets for mobility, or keep the stopping power but again makes u leap backwards and short stun people infront. More of a support class where youre not animation locked all the time, and sharpshooter for dmg class. The trapper tree currently make 0 sense to me.
