Incorrect. Even a BIS musket player at the start of the match will do paltry damage. I know this because I run an enchanted attuned musket with 300 dex and 200 int and I tickle people. And friends I know who run the same, do the same, they tickle people.
I am not obsessed with cheats, but they exist and they are rampant in this game. You can not have a discussion about balance, when part of what you are facing is not a balance issue, its a cheat issue.
As far as damage, there are cheats that make use of exploits.
I mean dude, I know EXACTLY what you are talking about, I have been the first death in a match by a musket player and I was literally ONE SHOT, literally, 1 attack thats it and the dot finished me off and that is using a tier V health pot.
So. How come that player, with no mortal empowerment, no empowerment built up kill me in one shot. Yet, I run the same weapon, I run the same “OP” set up, I know how to aim for the head and yet my Powder burn TICKLES in comparison. There is only one answer for this, the player who shot me (who is notorious on my server for cheating) was using exploits and YES their are exploits for damage.
Most do not, correct. But the amount of people cheating FAR exceeds how many you think are.
There are cheats that every weapon in game can use, most just focus on the hit scan “aimbot” of the musket.
Really? Because on my server an attuned, enchanted musket is going for 300k+. Shirking fort, resilient freedom goes for 350k. Mortal empowerment ring with thrust damage, 500k, no less and even then they want asmodium.
In fact, the musket has been the most expensive build of anything I have done to date. There is a reason you don’t find medium resilient, shirking fort, freedom dexterity chest pieces for sale, they fetch a crap ton of gold and sell ASAP.

I dont think muskets ruin pvp, i think they make it frustrating to deal with at long distances, and i think long range nerfs (NOT TO DMG, but mechanics) is what they need to nerf. Musket is a sniper atm, what in the fck
You can say incorrect all you want, If I don’t use a health pot or break line of sight, I be dead in 4 shots from some these glass cannons at the start of games. Some muskets hit like a wet noodle. A wet noodle and some hit like a massive truck, while having over 30 thurst resistance. I run completely naked to every other damage type compared to muskets (and bows) which completely shred my hp bar faster than any other class despite having 0 gems for them. Muskets don’t kill me very often, but they ruin my 1v1s or 1vXs and gsme in general. It’s literally impossible to play when a good musket player focuses you. Nothing you have said has changed my mind. Muskets are a toxic weapon and have no place in this game. Sure cheating happens but you can’t prove it and neither AGS apparently, so it’s a pointless conversation. Till it can be accurate proven it’s not a valid argument. Just have to talk about muskets as it is, a hit scan sniper hitting for 4k plus from anywhere on the ma. This is not pvp. There is no counter play. It’s shooting fish in a barrel, it doesn’t allow anyone to play the game, I mean goodness sake even in shooter games you can contest a sniper without having to get on top of them. What game are we playing? Battlefield? Call of duty? Or new world?
Your statement is far from truth. Guys who are consistent with a musket before ME did just fine with it and will do so as well after it gets nerfed. Especially now with the runeglass.

The only way melee can get to the musket guy with enough resources (stamina, cooldowns) to fight him is if he escapes musket attention or musket’s aim is trash. Stop the copium pls.
Musket needs a redesign and ME needs to go to the dumpster or get a significant nerf.
I mean with its current design musket can only be balanced around the 10% who use it which is an absolute design failure imo and here’s why:
The gap between a good and a bad musket player’s impact is huge. Bad sniper wont get the stacks, wont do the dodge combo properly, will miss most of his stance shots, most likely his min/max gets him mundane results.
Good sniper however will benefit from it all and more. Point is it has too many rewards for consistency compared to other weapons which makes those really good musket players so frustrating to deal with because most of New World rock/paper/scissors stuff revolves around close to mid range gameplay. These rules dont apply to muskets outside of Arenas.
PS. Moving 150 INT milestone to 100 could motivate muskets to run more than 50 con too.
Remove hitscan
Add ballistics. Adding ballistics would result in having to lead moving targets and adjust aim to adjusting aiming height dramatically at 100 yards.
The gem conversion needs to be looked at too. It’s completely broken. No way to properly defend against it. Which gem do muskets use? So many to pick from. Then they can easily swap and change it out. Elemental aversion sure but some say stacks and some say it doesn’t. And imo it’s ridiculous to have to specifically gear up specifically for 1 weapon type and if you don’t you just get blasted. Like I said earlier, I don’t spec for any other weapon besides bows and muskets and I do just fine. Nothing blows me up quicker except a BB azoth blast that lands which rarely happens or an ice spike. But those are both really close range and I can outplay it unlike muskets and bows shooting me from who knows where.
Please do not lump bow and musket together. the bow is only effective at medium ranges because the arrow has a travel time. While being riddled with musket bullets outside of the render distance.
Just passing to say my solution to the problem.
Instead of nerfing musketers, I want AGS to give more weapons. These are my ideas.
Maybe daggers are coming with stealth buff.
bring protection field back: This skill from the alpha Healer was removed but it could be one of solutions.
A Shield buff weapon: I played lost ark and there was a classe very nice to play that could give shields and this weapon is something New World must have imo because is very fun. Attacking with bubbles, giving bubbles shield, running away inside a hovering bubble could be amazing. It perfect fits with the complaints about musketeers and also number 2.
building barricades and moving them like big shields. I can even imagine a box like in Kojima games.
You have absolutely no idea how hard it is to hit moving targets with a musket. You want to complain? Complain about bows doing the same damage or a lot more but with a massive hitbox.
Muskets are very very annoying if you just get killed and didnt get to see the action. But the reverse is we get killed by literally everything and it is extremely unforgiving.
You play against .1% of players that can stack mortal empower up to 20 and are ghosts. Not the rest of us

remove ME (hmm yes perma empowerment for no risk hmm 600-700 dot hmm)
remove dualstat so you cant double scale/ hit and ignore diminishing returns on stats (also need to retune scaling so its still a viable weapon)
remove roll speed (why give it mobility when you play at render distance, make it punishing if its caught.)
Idc about muskets, but bows make me wanna quit the fkin game.
I get hit for 6k from range or from 4k right in my face.
LIke how dodge, they literally wait till I’m in their face to shoot so they get the 4k crit off and then I’m at such a disadvantage already being halfdead.
