I’ve played both mutations to high levels so far. And I can definitely say that if you wear anything other than heavy armor, you will always die. At Mutation Level 3-4, mobs start dealing 6-8k damage to heavy armor (with their special hits). Playing a melee is incredibly difficult in mutation. The game is about to slide into the remote meta, which is actually a good thing. But even if you’re a remote, you can get light armor with one hit. What Ags needs to do is adjust the degree of hit of mobs to damage types. I’m not talking about a defensive buff, mobs need to adjust the damage they inflict on light and medium armors. Otherwise, mutations are almost impossible except with 5 heavy armors.
