I mainly played the game and stick around because of the Mutated Dungeons, but I nowadays I barely even touch them anymore. Many whom I ran Mutations with also moved away from doing them. They are simply no longer worth doing since the rewards have been nerfed heavily. With Brimstone the difficulty of Mutations, especially M10s have been increased a lot. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy having difficult content in the game, but while you turned M10s into the hardest PvE endgame content, you made it less rewarding by removing some chests on M10 while the they drop very few legendaries. This is a huge issue, cause you barely get anything in return. It no longer feels rewarding. The loot in M10s was much better before Brimstone. M10s require a ton of preparation. You have to spend thousands on gems and buffs each week and you get nearly nothing in return. It’s gotten to a point where only the same few people still run them nowadays and majority of them are shard sellers. Keep in mind that this is coming from a veteran player that can still do M10 gold runs. This is not whining because I can’t do the content, it’s the complete opposite. I can easily access the content and finish it easily as well. The problem is that the content is very hard to access for a lot of new/returning players. The current system discourages you from joining lower level Mutations as you are limited to only 25 runs per week, and the loot on lower level mutations is even worse. There’s simply too many Mutation levels. This is hindering a lot of the returning/new players from progressing. Many simply quit the game after hours and days of trying to find a team for a lower tier Mutation. I watched all of this happen on multiple servers. Reduce the amount of Mutation levels and give people an incentive to run Mutated Dungeons again by increasing the amount of coins you get for finishing a Mutation. An M10 for example should not yield you the same amount of coins than finishing a regular dungeon. An M10 should yield you 3000 coins for example upon completion. It’s limited to only 25 runs per week. This would also encourage people to stick through rigged runs and join lower level Mutations.
You know that you can join any mu lv if your gearscore enough?
Our experiences have been drastically different. WIth all the chest at the end now and the bag, it ends up being around 8 drops, and I get a leggo about 5 out of 8 of them on average. Running say 16~20 mutators a week I’ve made so much money from the items that have dropped not only from the completion but random leggos from the mobs.
Once again it’s just different experiences, but if anything Mutators along with Crafting has been nothing but positive income for me. It might not be 1.2+ million dollar items, but there’s been plenty of easy to sell 20~40k PVP and PVE items I’ve gotten from M10’s, along with BOP stuff that’s been very usuable for me.
There are some potential differences in how we play that might affect our perceived differences in thought here. I do play every role (Healer/Tank/DPS/ETC) so my pool of effective drops may be different than yours. My company is also very heavy into both PVE and PVP and Castle of Steels market is very active, so items sell on the regular from m10. While there has been runs that are only 3k, I would say weekly M10’s average me close to 150~175k in profits, and if you consider that’s about 18 runs a week on average, that’s about 8.3~9.7K I’m making per run, almost 3x that 3000 coin you mentioned.
Depths for example just left the Mutator queue, but it drops very PVP friendly items. I got a few Resilient/Freedom/Shirking Fort leggos that pull a pretty penny on the market. 50k here, and even a 125k one there.
Another thing that Mutators really help make profit with is if you are a crafter. Get your 7~9 runic stopwatches a week and then create Amulets specifically targetting the mutator of the week (Say Nature for Gen this week). You have a 1 in 3 chance to roll a leggo, and if you get a Amber Amulet with nature/divine/health, you are now making a 60~70k profit selling it. Obviously this isn’t the same as running it, but if you play the market based on mutators you can EASILY make very viable income from it.
I don’t know what game you are playing, but this is absolutely not the case for anyone I played with. The chests drop only very few legendaries nowadays, and the very few legendaries you drop are either BoP or BoE’s with the same terrible perks like “indestructible”, “corruption/blight resistance”, “ruinos damage”. Before Brimstone, they actually would have had the possibility of having good perks. I’ve done hundreds of M10 completions since I do them since pretty much the launch of the mutations. Most of my runs are gold runs too. I can easily tell that the loot has been heavily nerfed. They also killed gear selling with Golden Scarabs and the current Resilient, Shirking Fortifying and Ward/Bane meta. Almost everyone that is still playing is geared already and the ones that aren’t simply craft their gear with Golden Scarabs. Most people that are still doing Mutations switched over to shard selling due to the loot drops from the chests not being worth it. It’s also the only way you can make money with M10s these days. I highly doubt you can make a million off of M10 loot nowadays. Only way you can make that now is by selling shards. The economy is suffering right now even on Castle of Steel. Prices dropped heavily. Most legendary materials barely have any value anymore. Precision Armoring Tools for instance dropped from 50k+ to 9k on Castle of Steel. Barely anyone buys good gear either if you are not selling the stuff for 1/10 of the actual value these days. What you are describing here with your post is how it was prior to Brimstone changes. It absolutely doesn’t reflect how the game is now.
I don’t do M10 mainly because all of my resources have been spent on PVP gear and the PVE gear is just low priority. If they nerf my light armor I will basically have no gear to do anything and might as well just go play something else not spending another 8 months making my PVP gear to have it nerfed to nothing.
