Since I got hooked on playing New World, I’ve logged a lot of fun-filled hours adventuring with friends in the game’s beautiful quest-filled lands but I can’t say the ride(walk) has always been butterflies and sunflowers.
Like many New World players, when playing, my computer has suffered slow-downs in loading graphics textures, freezing, stuttering, roaring computer fans, and times when frame rates drop so low it’s impossible to play the game and I have to shut my computer off and go do something else. This is when I rediscovered that I have pets! Just kidding, they often come to see me when they need some loving and I find it annoyingly cute when my cat jumps up on my desk between me and my keyboard demanding attention. Anyway, a few days ago it got to the point where I was seriously thinking about quitting New World due to all the technical problems I was having.
Before putting out the FOR SALE sign in front of my lovely two story home in Brightwood, I sat
down with a couple of my New World gaming buddies and we did some brainstorming to find out just how we might make our New World gameplay experience better. Keeping in mind that it’s well documented in forums and on Youtube that New World is a verified video card killer, we searched for solutions on how to make New World playable but still look graphically beautiful without burning up our valuable video cards.
For various reasons, our simple solution won’t be a perfect fit for everyone but this is what we came up with and it works. How do I know? After making these changes, my previous New World game stutters and freezes are gone, slow texture loading is gone, and my computer’s fans no longer sound like a jet taking off when I am playing.
So let’s get down to vanquishing New World’s technical demons and have your game running buttery smooth for once.
Optional) Open Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) and take a peek at your CPU and GPU numbers.
- Open your game settings and change your global VISUAL game settings to MEDIUM. OUCH! I know that was painful, but don’t stop! See the fear in the evil demons loathsome red eyes?
- Next, bump your TERRAIN DETAILS up to HIIGH so you can be sure of seeing those shiny ore nuggets glistening in the distance.
- Turn off V-SYNC, you won’t need it.
- Now take a deep cleansing breath and change your FPS cap to 30 FPS!
There, all done! The demons are running for the hills or maybe just over to Horizon Zero Dawn to plague those players?
I know everyone has different computers with a wide variety of hardware and specs but if you start out with the above settings I think you will see you will get a much better gameplay experience.
It’s worth mentioning that if you have a older computer you may have to crank back New World’s global visual settings to LOW but the game will
still look beautiful. If you have a newer computer with a buff video card you may comfortably be able to increase the your capped frame rate to 60 FPS and move some settings back to high from medium.
Also, consider the screen resolution you’re playing at, keeping in mind as you increase screen resolutions you will increase the processing load on your GPU. 1080p is good for me.
Be sure to always listen to the “truth telling” of your computer’s case fans. They should never be roaring when you’re playing. With the above setting my fans are whisper quiet. Even in Raids.
Finally, if you want to see the effects of setting changes to your GPU and CPU workloads, hit the control-alt-delete keys on your keyboard and bring up task manager. It will show you in real time the results your changes are making as a percentage of workload. Ideally, you want to see GPU and CPU percentages bouncing around the 40% range.
I wish you all good luck on vanquishing your computer’s technical New World demons and I hope to see you in the game. Bu, bye for now.
