Get rid of this! Seriously – we have to grind for orbs, to do dungeons. Or, we have to pay people to use their orbs. A basic thing in all MMO’s is the ability to do dungeons, yet you decided to put these time constraints on it.
So. Much. This.
As a casual player, I can’t even run a dungeon without first grinding for a few hours to get materials to make orbs. I’ve literally quit the game because it’s so much work just to get to a point where I can do the one thing I actually want to do.
this has all been said/posted before. don’t play NW anymore as none of this will change. There are way better games out there right now for you to enjoy. Let NW fail and die and maybe it will be ressurected into what it could have been at a later time.
I agree on orb time gates, travelling times and azoth costs for teleporting but I don’t understand people not wanting to grind in an MMORPG.
Now there might be a difference between grind and progression but a central core aspect of not just MMORPGs but also RPGs is that you need to do something to progress your character.
This is in contrast to MOBAs and FPS games where there is no grind and you can just go straight to the PvP but those are different type of games. All RPGs rely on progression. Once the progression stops, so does the game.
So maybe we need more challenging content rather than just grinding simple things over and over again, but you cannot escape repeating content for progression.
I understand in MMO’s there is grind. The problem with New world is that they over do it. Looking at the amounts of mats you need for skills. Having them double the exp for it, to make it even more grindy.
Aside from the other grinds that they have over done, what’s worse is that the reward for it is minimal. The gear you get…sucks most of the time. It’s so discouraging.
Then probably you should not play MMORPGs as grinding is a core aspect.
Yeah for some aspects, such as crafting I can agree. But for gear and expertise it does not seem that bad. Seems enough people are running around with 599 GS gear already so it seems not that grindy.
I myself is not included in that as I am sitting at around 575 GS but my focus is more on challenging content, rather than min-max my character. That is why I do as little as possible of elite chest and portal runs, as they provide zero challenge.
People need to realise that gear is a means to an end and not the end itself. The end is to complete challenging, and hopefully fun, content, be it PvE or PvP, and gear is just the means to do that.
It becomes pointless when the progression does not result in being able to finish more challenging and fun content. And I am close to reaching that as I am reaching the point where I dont need higher GS to effectively finish Laz and Genesis.
That is why I look forward to the mutated expeditions as it raises the bar. However it is a temporary fix, as rehashing the same dungeon in a different package is not a long-term solution.
What really is needed in New World, for the long-term, is new and challenging content and a fix for Zerging removing any and all challenge and fun from open world content.
actually, not really, the grind mechanic is actually a perversion of the original design intent of rpgs. Which is that you would naturally gain levels while playing the game normally. A game that had too many random encounters, or required players to kill enemies outside of the normal progression was seen as a poorly balanced rpg
mmo s tried to focus on grind at first, but the successful mmos evolved such that grind was designed to lead you through content, not be the end in an of itself.
regardless your opinion or mines, its not black or white, its a balance, and this game, based on much of the feedback has extremely overshot that balance.
very few players reach level 60, 16.6% and right now, thats currently not even 1/4th the grind available.
1.5% got armoring to 200, etc
the grind is not working here.
further more it already creates significant barrier to entry for new content, and it only gets worse
I absolutely agree with your sentiment about company control vs. faction control. On our server, this is completely abused. Deals being made across factions so that only certain guilds have a chance.
I am not a new player but I feel towards the NEW PLAYER mass.
AGS did not think about the consequences of new players. Instead, almost all the stuff they have done is catered to the end game and current players who played since day one.
New players are SCREWED. They nerfed that guardian quest but with newer players dwindling, its difficult to complete that quest.
There is NO CATCH UP MECHANICS. You are going to spend 300-400+ hours to get to 60 AND THEN another similar amount of hours to GEAR YOURSELF to SEMI competitive as the CURRENT PLAYER BASE who have been playing SINCE DAY ONE.
I’m with you on that – I can see a vision for it as well. But to me, it seems they have a very different vision than most of the players. Kinda shows with the type of decisions they are making.
Damn, well said. I haven’t touched the game since the first week of December strictly because of sharing a similar stance.
edit: If they were going to make the grind this horrendous, then they should have removed a level requirement for gear, and started the GS grind from level 1 similar to Destiny.
