My view on this game

Hi fellow explorer.

I have wanted to make this post for a while now. I have seen a lot of people talking on the forums and ingame regarding a few issues I wanted to address.

First off I wanted to address the launch. Compared to most mmorpg’s this launch was a great success. Most games have way more issues with their launch than this game had. More serious issues, and more impactful issues. Yes there was some problems with queue times. That only ment a lot of people wanted to play the game. And because the game was made the way it was with a limited amount of people on each server it had to go this way. After a week of any mmo, a lot of people will quit. It is just how it is. If you would have a server that was without queues the first days, it would mean it would probably feel rather empty after a few weeks. So in a way it was a good thing we got the massive loads on the servers in the first week. Then when people left, it would still be populated to a degree where people still had servers with people to play on.

I have seen many people ask “what game would you compare New World with?”. I have not seen anyone addressing this with an answer that I agreed with, so I’ll throw in my opinion here.
New world is comparable to a mash of two games in my opinion. Darkfall and ESO. I will explain.

New World is comparable to:

Darkfall:
-Very similar world structure. (zones, hamlets, resource gathering and crafting)
-Player driven economy with similar structure to the trade posts in zones.
-Fast spawning mobs and grind zones.
-same type of combat. (aim and 2 weapon structure).
-PvP focused ownership of zones.

Elder scrolls online:
-Similar polished graphic.
-Movement feels in many ways similar.
-combat feels polished in a comparable way.
-The UI and game setup feels comparable.

Mash these two games together and you are fairly close to New World. But in my opinion New World have the potential to blow both of those games off the map because it just feels better in areas the ohter two games were lacking.

I see a lot of comments on endgame content missing, and the grind is too hard or boring. I am guessing most people who feels this either have little or no experience with sandbox mmo’s and are coming from theme park mmo’s or maybe never played an mmo at all before.

When you play games like this you have to think of it as something different from a story driven game you might have played before. Games like this are ment as a sandbox for you to figure out how to play for your own entertainment. You have the tools, now find a way to use them. I am not saying we don’t need some changes and additions, but in general we got most of what we need here to have good fun with the game. This game is mostly aimed towards PvP and player interactions rather than NPC given tasks with a story attached to it. When I say that I mean We have player driven economy (which needs some improvements), and we have crafting and zones to fight over, and we have a variety of builds we can use to figure out how to beat your enemies (either being 1vx, or group VS group).

Most of the complaints I see in this game I suspect are coming from people who does not have the experience with games like this and I think that might be because of the massive hype this game had, and a lot of non mmo-players wanted to try. Some are still here, but I know first hand that a lot of those players have already left. This game is not for everyone.

The biggest issue for me right now is that the endgame PvP outpost rush is disabled. That is a good way to let players PvP nonstop without having to run around flagged hoping to catch someone out in the open. I feel amazon needs to fix that asap, and also add a 5v5 PvP arena, and a 1v1 arena with some sort of rewards that makes this into a competitive game for those who wants to participate in those activities.

Hopefully they will add a lot of new content without having to grind new levels. I am not a fan of just adding new levels and gear to farm. I want to use what I farmed for a good while before someone just makes it worthless and the grind starts all over.

that’s all I had to say for now. And thanks for reading.

3am…can I get the cliff notes?

Pretty well put there gamer. I think it is more of a 3D Runescape, the only rant I have with the game is the quests are a little dry and repetitive. The crafting though is amazing!

I can not stress the fact that you have to use all of the tier resources to keep making end game materials and gear is such a great idea. It makes it so you have to go back and revisit old content!

You are here touching on a point that I forgot to mention. Try not to look at it as early game and end game materials, and try instead to look at it as a way to populate all the areas of the game even after reaching max lvl. People will have to go kill and hunt for resources in all areas of the map and this helps the game not kill off zones after most people out-leveled them. It doesn’t matter if you kill a lvl 6 boar or a 60 boar after you hit 60. The only difference is that the low lvl will die faster. This means to craft you need to use all the parts of the world, and I am all for it.

This game is not sandbox mmo, and i am sure you didnt play any sandbox mmo.

However all systems in the game mix of 2 3 games. Crafting is almost exact same with albion online. Gathering is almost exact same with albion online.

Combat mechanics and skills and masteries from Conquerors Blade.

All pvp systems like territories open world pvp etc from albion online but in a bad way. I never played in alpha but as people says, this game was 3d Albion Online in alpha.

Now this game is just trying to be themepark mmo and sandbox game at the same time.
But they are two disitinct areas and you cant be a sandbox game with themepark dynamics.

Sandbox game wont force you to do anything in the game. This is why its sandbox. You can do what you want.

This game forces you to do crafting, gathering, questing, dungeons etc. But only not pvp. Its bit weird.

This game is not comparable with eso, since eso have probably the game presents most content in the mmo market.
This game is worst with the content.

I gave this game 10/10 because of the swimming is really next level. Jokes asides game not bad but it is definitely going to an s show for 1 to two more months then will see how the games goes

Since I compared this game to darkfall, and you say I didn’t play any sandbox mmo, I’m sure you don’t know dark fall. Darkfall is a sandbox. And I played most mmo’s launched since 2001, so yes I did play plenty of sandboxes. your answer feels hostile and confrontative. I am not sure it is intentional, but I am not trying to step on anyones toes with what I wrote. It is my humble opinion. It is comparable with ESO with how the game feels to move around in. and the list I wrote down.

I am starting to notice a trend of previously played bad games made in 1820 = this game good in 2021.

But in all honesty, yeah. This game def. not as bad as people make it out to be in the forum. And honestly will most likely stay in the upper side of MMO´s…Still want to see some sort of improvement though.

I didnt play darkfall, because i didnt play i didnt mention it.

Well, i too played plenty of sandbox games like Ultima Online, albion online and maybe more that not to worth mention.

I am not hostile by the way, im just bored to listen people who claims that they have played so much games, and spread false words.
Again, this is not sandbox game.
This game has quest driven levelling system.
In this game you cant do almost every content without 60 levels. I am 42 and never saw pvp in the game. Well i dont believe this is pvp oriented game. I have assigned to war board maybe 10 times and never choosen.
I have opened pvp flag and always higher level players killed me. So i never flagged again since level 22 or something.

These are not sandbox elements.
This game forces you to do gathering and crafting for the dungeon keys. This is not the way of sandbox.

Even people says you can level up without questing, and just crafting its a false information. Well maybe if you can grind gathering and crafting for 1 year you could. But every game allow that. If you spend enough time, in every game you can get full level with crafting. Even in wow.

So only way to get max level is questing or mob grinding.

So you cant do whatever you want. You have to follow main quests to get azoth staff for example. You canr finish this game without questing.

Well normally i dont have problem with it. But if you do that, you should do it well. If you implement quest system and force players to that, you have to design good questing system. So if i compare with eso, eso is the best with questing. Millions of quests, all voice acted, most of them have great background story, lot of memorable npcs etc etc.

If you force people to go back and forth in zones for questing you should do it well. If you just copy paste all zones and settlements it wont work. Well i dont even compare with eso, how its world so gigantic and variable.

Albion online also have maps copied and pasted but it never force you to progress levelling in these zones. They are just areas to do pvp. They are just dangerous places that you could killed by someone.

Now i am dreadly bored from levelling at 42, and doing just gathering and crafting. In 4-5 days i have just gain 2 levels and half of it from quests or dungeons. Well probably with this progress when i reach 200 with all trading skills, i will gain only 7 8 levels. After that game will probably end for me.

Well i really remember release of Albion Online and i can bet it has more variety with monsters, armors, weapons and everything else. Its only 2 gb isometric cartoon graphic mmorpg.

This game is 30 gb and i am sure 29.5 of it because of the graphics. All other contents could fit in 500 mb.

However this game is just theme park mmorpg trying to be sandbox game. And it will never happen. And i am sure this game has less variety and content compared to other mmorpgs in market. Its like mobile game.

Ok. So to a degree i agree. You have to do some quests. But regarding the pvp I do not agree. And if not a sandbox I would call it a hybrid with most elements at the sandbox side. It’s only my opinion, and I don’t shame you for disagreeing. But the quests will stop and you are left with the sandbox in the end. Some thempark elements remain. Like a few instances.

I pvped since low lvl. And I won a few against higher lvl players before I dinged 60 myself. It not impossible to win vs someone 10 levels above you.

Just because a game is old doesn’t make it bad. That’s some grade A genZ bullsht right there. The best games made are older because in this day and age most studios are afraid to introduce something new because of the insane price of developing new games. In the early days we had originality and yes I know the graphic does not live up to todays standards, but that doesn’t make a game bad.

Nothing to do with GenZ, not a fan of the whole “older games vs newer games” when the entire industry is barely 20-30 years old. I did never mention graphics, but realistically the movement/combat etc will just be better in new games. But proof me wrong, name a mmorpg that has better content than the newer titles?

I also don’t shame you for disagreeing.
However, disagree with pvp part. You have started to play the game at release. Me also.
But after 2-3 months there will be no pvp or no other content for new comers. Since game not allow you to create second character there won’t be enough low level players to do contents. Even low level pve content won’t be doable for new comers.

And for the pvp part, i believe it’s only possible to kill someone 10 level higher than you, if he just afk or armless.

Wow. Anarchy online is old and still running

I hope they move away from the mostly PVP focused end game that controls too many aspects of the game to have a dire affect on PVE players. In a game that moved away from hardcore pvp it’s weird they kept this in the game as jacking up taxes or crafting stations balanced behind pvp actions sucks imo. I’m all for the owning company or faction having bonuses though.

They should give options for both PvP and PvE.

But isn’t it fun when your game play is directly impacted by decisions and actions that you did not make?

I don’t mind the world feeling dynamic but if it impacts certain types of gameplay in a negative way then definitely that isn’t fun.

Thanks for your objective and multi-faceted review. NW has really strong points and really weak points, but overall, is a very promising game that can get you hooked into a more sandbox experience.

I feel like most posts on these forums that are made by the same drama queens every ten minutes are a bit too well orchestrated to shed a bad light on the game. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t criticize, which I do quite often and sometimes even with a harsh tone. What I’m saying is there are some “critics” who spend their entire days every single day throwing shit on the game for things the game is actually good for. Don’t tell me that I am being Alex Jones here but it appears to me as if some other developers that rape and molest women in their own workplace (hello Bobby howya doin) are trying to make the game look bad for newcomers. Otherwise I see no point of someone to keep playing a game that they don’t enjoy one bit, nor do I understand why they would waste their entire time on a game that they detest.

This was a breath of fresh air to see some actual evaluation of the game. Thanks and hope you enjoy the game as much as I do and we see some actual developments soon on the parts that are lacking.
