Need advice on running a new build please :)

Hello all! I need some advice on which way to go. I’m currently level 46 and I have been running hatchet/spear build from the release. Honestly I am kind of bored of it. Don’t get me wrong, I do like it but I really want to try something else. I feel a little squishy in dungeons, I put a good bit into constitution and dexterity. I have around 7k Health but I honestly feel like my damage is non existent. I tried a spear/bow build but aiming with that shit is rough being I play on a high sensitivity. I like the idea of some range and still being able to get into the shit but I don’t know what to run that would be fun and be beneficial to my group or faction in wars/pve. I have participated in a few wars but I feel way out of it as I’m constantly getting drilled with range. Can anyone give me an idea that would be a fun build to play for both pve/pvp and not get my shit stomped lol. Thank you!

How about Hatchet musket

Best thing to do is just pick up something new and start using it. You really never know what you might randomly like. I’ve been bow/spear while leveling but I think I’m going to try some other things pretty soon… maybe hammer/great axe… and then eventually I’ll be trying fire staff / ice gauntlet just to level them.

Try hatchet and fire staff, with intelligence maxed and an arcane or lightning gem on the hatchet. Not too many things seem to resist those, nor do other players tend to slot resistances to them.

I always suggest just leveling up one weapon at a time instead of swapping both slots to new ones. With you already skilled in hatchet, you have that “OH $Hit!” weapon to fall back on, while tagging things with the fire staff to earn weapon skill points quickly with it.

The hatchet heals and dishes out your melee damage, as well as giving some nice movement. Also has grit and cleanses debuffs. Fire staff has your aoe’s and burn out, which will get you through gravity wells and water obstacles  . Fun stuff!

Thank you for the in depth reply. Now lets say I run the hatchet and fire staff. As far as skill attribute points where is the best place to stack the majority of those? I know the hatchet is strength and dex while the fire staff is intelligence. I have 100 in constitution currently and the rest in dex, how do you know where to put those points to be able to balance the build? That’s one of my biggest issues currently because I know the damage output from the fire staff is going to be based entirely off the intelligence but how would the hatchet even do any damage with it having totally different attributes?

I hate the musket. lol something is just off about it.

I love the musket. I’ve basically turned the game into a 3rd person shooter bloodborn with grenades. I’m not sure how viable it is at your level though.

Basically, as you level up and change gear, you’ll be looking for the hard bonuses at each level (your 50 / 100 /150 ). With a gem to scale 40% of your hatchet’s damage off of intelligence, and changing it from the hatchet’s slash to say, lightning damage, you’ll be fine getting to 50 con for the bonus from consumables, then the rest into intelligence to work on your staff’s dots, light and heavy attacks (you’ll be doing this a bunch to keep up with mana consumption). And of course, all elemental damage from weapons scale off of intelligence.

You’ll be spending a little gold to change your attributes, but it’ll be worth it. I was running a str/dex build with my hatchet at first, but when I started messing around with musket I had to modify that, then of course to the fire staff… I really noticed really big changes with the concentration of points into intelligence.

Each point of intelligence gives you +2.5% Magic Damage, then the big payoff hits at 150.

  • 50: +10% damage to light and heavy magic attacks, +10% harvest speed
  • 100: +20% critical hit damage, 5% chance to gain 1 azoth when harvesting
  • 150: +20% to elemental damage, -10% decrease in weight of harvested items

Boost up your crit chance and get good at headshots with your staff

edit - get a mouse like the G502 with a quick dpi switch to help aiming. You can keep the fast responses you’re used to for default, then dump that dpi down for precise aiming instantly. There’s a few out there pretty cheap that work; I think I got mine off ebay for less than $20, and my g/f got a Corsair that has this for even less.

Man thank you for the response! Do you have discord by chance? I would like to get with you on there if possible. Feel free to Message me your discord if you would like!

Also I have 3 G502 and 2 Glorious Model 0. I’m a keyboard & mice hoarder lol

I feel like the musket is really good for pvp but I just can’t seem to mess with it lol

It’s an absolute beast if you practice and pair it up with something that enhances mobility, like rapier. I used it with a bleed perk on crits and powder burn…fun stuff, if I could land headshots, and drop a trap at the right time (I tended to toss those at pretty close range, get my shots in at a target that was stuck, then fleche through to get some distance again. Fight near turkeys and rabbits for that quick refresh, haha!) .
