Was looking for some upgrades and noticed some differences on weapons with similiar gear score. As you can see in the image, 535 gear score bow has 406 base damage and 163 thrust damage (ignoring the empowered gem in it after experimenting and noticing gem does not affect that 406 base damage) and 528 one has 469 damage and 161 thrust damage. I am kinda confused on which one I should focus on. Should i go for the damage or should i go for the thrust damage? Any information regarding this is appreciated.
Another example in case people gets confussion due to gem, is that one below. There is 69 damage difference at total damage but everything else is the same.
The upper damage number listed right under your gear score is how much damage YOU personally do using that weapon. That number is more important than the Thrust damage listed below.
The thrust damage is the weapons base damage. The Damage number at the top is the calculated total damage you will do.
When comparing weapons, whichever one has the better Damage number will perform better. This is of course excluding the consideration of whatever perks exist on the weapon that are non-damage related.
OKay so after actually reading everything (my bad) if you remove the gem the 406 should increase. The “base” damage is actually the “thrust damage” and the other damage is scaled with your dex. Right now the 30% arcane damage doesn’t scale with your dex so overall damage (406) is less.
The lower number is the base damage dealt by the weapon, the upper one is the actual damage after taking into account your dexterity. The disparity is quite odd to say the least. Have you checked if it changes based on which weapon is equipped, maybe? Otherwise this should not be happening.
Yeah too little sleep, I give up making sense of this time to bed, but something is just wrong I think. My first comment made so much sense to me as well
Thanks for the information. After going through DukeSloth’s information on web and calculation, still something feels wrong as seen on the 2nd image I have added. Kinda hard to understand, however total damage is the go i guess in this case.
Edited it for full image. My guessing is either that dex on it is also taken into consideration (yet it should not do that much difference) or that crit damage perk is also taken into calculation. It is hard to understand those.
Note that I am viewing both weapons with 0 stats distrubuted at the moment.
