Need some advice on gear/playing

So, pre-Umbrals, I crafted and farmed, a lot. I saved up tens of thousands of gold, and bought lots of GS 600 legendary gear - none of it was BIS or anything, but i got a nice VG and LS, and bought a 600 leg focus set, a 600 leg skinning luck set with foc/int stats for flagging pvp, and a 600 leg loot luck set, all over many many weeks.

Now, i’m unclear on what my purpose for continuing to play is. Because I was farming, my avg expertise is garbage, only like 516 - my highest are chestpiece in the 560s and LS in the 540s or 550s from doing a couple daily gypsum chests.

So now here is my problem: all of my gear bought pre-patch remains 600 GS with proper stats when I equip it, it does not cut down to the avg between my expertise and the GS. However, anything I craft, and anything I buy from the TP is reduced to that average GS, usually like 520-540. What exactly do I do now? i don’t especially care about hitting 625 or anything, but it’s pretty stupid that for no real reason I cannot buy any gear without a severe nerf no, without spending hours and hours running expeditions… just to get to a point I can buy the same gear as a week ago without nerfs? Presumably this means until I hit 600 expertise in all the needed gear slots, nothing I loot or craft or can buy will be worth jack shit - though, super fun, I still have to pay full price on the TP for a nerfed item.

I genuinely cannot think of a reason for me to log in now. Expeditions are fun sometimes, they’re not fun when the prospect is I need to go run them over and over and over (and pay for the pleasure each time) not for any actual progress, just to get to a point where I can play the game like I had for the first 3 months.

Does anyone know a way around this? Or is my best bet simply to just not play and hope eventually they fix an impressively stupid “improvement” at some point in the coming months?

Edit: Looks like the crafting issue was probably a bug related to the holiday armor and has been fine at least the 2/2/22 update - thanks to madbolt for the heads up on being able to use 600GS armor and skill get expertise boosts!

So I would avoid running gen and lay until you’re full 590 expertise since you won’t get any drops at 600 until then. It’s just a waste of orbs and time.

Unfortunately they only thing you can do now is Chest Runs. Yep that’s correct. Run about 500 chest runs get your expertise up for all your slots. Pray to god you get rare legendary drops (I never do, 3 trophies, full luck gear, shit system. It sucks) so you can make a LOT of gold and then… THEN you can craft gear and maybe get a good craft or you can run gen / laz and get some legendary gear with incorrect stats on it. Like a nice shiny fire staff with Dexterity and focus that you salvage and sigh and then run it again.

See, and my answer to that is, why would any sane person do that? My current gear score is 596 with the items I bought pre-patch, in a large part so if I wanted to do things like expeditions, I’d be remotely useful. Would I not get expertise boosts running expeditions in that pre-patch 600GS gear? So not only would I have to do chest runs first, I’d have to get new, shitty gear just for the sake of expertise boosts, and THEN do expedition runs, and THEN I can equip the same level gear I could a week ago?

Yeah, no thanks lol, that it actually insane.

You can keep your current gear equipped and just use that. You’ll get expertise upgrades in Laz and Gen pre 590 you just won’t see any legendary drops at all. It was bugged at first and “too many legendary were dropping” so for a couple days it was worth it. They nerfed that so it’s back to “snowballs chance in hell” of getting a good legendary drop.

On my server, chest runs are every night, 50-100 players run the same path with the same group and do the same things. If you can’t afford to make an orb, if you don’t want to run faction missions for orbs or mutated orbs then that’s it. That’s all there is to do besides pvp.

But if you’re NOT using a greataxe, bow, void gauntlet or musket, forget it. You’ll just get 2 shot in medium and die as there still isn’t a counterplay system, stun break against those weapons.

I mean this is why so many have quit.

first glance at the January patch notes and there was a mass exodus from the game. February ptr patch notes aren’t looking good so far. Especially if you PvP and use any of the weak weapons that have been nerfed into the ground.

I wish I had better news beyond “I like the games base leveling but the rest of it is terrible and they don’t do what needs to be done.”

“You can keep your current gear equipped and just use that.”

Okay, this gives me some hope - I misunderstood how that part worked and thought I’d get no bumps with it, but that makes this process more bearable for sure - I was not looking forward to trying to do chest runs or expeditions in 515 gear when I had 300/150 focus/int and 300/150 int/focus gear in a chest :frowning:

Well, tonight I guess I’ll see about buying a few Laz/Gen runs and see if I want to videogame myself afterwards - thank you for your help and the info!

For sure. I probably misunderstood your initial question but yeah you can keep your good gear and get expertise bumps.

If I had to guess AGS didn’t update correctly and the gear is bugged. As I understood the patch notes, it’ was supposed to REDUCE your stats on gear that was not at that gear score. Meaning if you had a piece of gear at 600 but that slot is only 540, then all the perks on that gear would be reduced, the gear score would be reduced as well. That is NOT the case on all the gear I have equipped. none of my stats are reduced per slot though my overall expertise is 580 at the moment.

I think it’s just broken in our favor but who knows with AGS.

Oh for sure. I’m worried it’s a bug, but I am trying to be optimistic and tell myself it’s AGS being nice to those of us who had it pre-patch - i check every time I log in to see if my GS on existing gear has been slashed down to an avg between it and my expertise, so far so good - however some armor I crafted did nerf when it was in my inventory and when I equipped it, with the little red slash - for now I remain 596 but I am sure that will be “fixed” in a future patch

I pretty much never PVP but you’ll pry the VG from my cold dead hands. Nothing compares to it for farming hides. Boars have nightmares about my VG.

Y like I said

If you buy a 600 gear score item from trading post with a expertise of 500 on that specific item it should be reduced down to 550, about half, if you craft anything yourself it will ignore the down scaling.
I would still recommend doing gensis and larzsus normal dungeon’s as their better at giving expertise, compared to open world elite chests when comparing time investment.

I see what you’re saying. Long story short, expertise bumps also bump your gear?

For example. 555 GS across the board with 555 average expertise.
You run a Genesis. Your average expertise goes to 558, let’s just on all 10 slots. So all the gear you had equipped goes to 558?

Tbh, just get 200 armoring which isn’t bad at all, and craft the now cheaper voidbent. Then use umbrals to upgrade voidbent up passed 600 and run expeditions for drops. M1’s are easy, I did then from 580 GS and up. After patch, run OPR to get umbrals here and there and use BoP items from expeditions while levelling expertise.

It may take you around 20k to get 200 armoring but if you sell orb slots, you can have 20k in no time. Btw, out buy orders up for the dynasty replica equipment. Tier 4 that gives as much exp as crafting tier 5 and pretty cheap.

Anything crafted or bought before the January patch was not reduced. Anything after is reduced 50% in between gear score and expertise. So 600 - 580 would act as a 590. Unless you craft it yourself. I believe if you craft it yourself you will see no decrease.

+100 internets !

Ahh ok that makes sense. Thank you.

You can run normal Gen and Laz with your normal gear. The cost for normal runs is less than you make from the bosses now. Expertise goes up pretty quick in these dungeons.

I already have 200 armoring. This does not matter, if I craft armor over my expertise, it is nerfed.

Unless it has changed, the few items I have crafted so far in the 550-560 range were nerfed once in my inventory to the halfway point between my expertise and their crafted gear score :frowning:

200 Armoring has never felt more useless lol.

I thought there was no expertise drop if YOU crafted it. Not your friend.

I have crafted 3 gauntlets and all 3 have been nerfed to the avg between expertise and GS. Was this fixed in the last 4-5 days?
