New Chat Commands/functionality for direct messages

Hi All,

New Chat Command

Currently for direct messages we have:

  • /direct message
  • /w
  • /r (replies to latest person)

I propose a few small changes/extra chat commands

  1. Add /dm to do the same as /direct message and /w
  2. The ability to do: /w @namehere so you can send a message without having to click in the name field to change/add their name. The same could also apply to /direct message and /dm
  3. Currently /r replies to the latest person/message, Add /r1 for example, the means it would reply to not the most recent message but the one before that

Of course this would break how these commands work at the moment, where by you type /w for example and then press space and it will switch you to direct messsages, the way I am proposing waits for you to type @namehere

I’m not sure how this would be best implemented, if the ability to send direct messages to a named person in 1 command was reserved just for /w then it would keep the /dm and /direct message working as per normal.

One other solution that would work/help…

When you type /w at the moment, if you’ve sent a direct message to someone already it automatically leaves the previous persons name in the “to” field and selects the message text field. There is no hotkey to switch to the other fields (tab is how you would do it in your browser, or shift + tab to go backwards)

If you had it by default choosing the “to” field and allowing a hotkey (tab would be prefered) then users could just press tab to go to the next field and type their message or they could easily update who they are sending the message to without having to move their mouse and click in the field.

Thanks

Bumping this because it only received a few views.
