The best PVP/RvR MMOs didn’t even have a crazy gear or craft grind. You don’t need that when pvp is very good and is the sole endgame focus.
It should have always been one hundred hours and maxed everything, equal footing. Then skills takes over in the battlefield and PvE for certain things, smaller grind but not thousand hour one
I do not think a Server wipe would be a solution to the current situation. Given the time it takes to level up a fresh new character from scratch, it will definetaly make people quit.
In my opinion a proper solution to the problem is :
Remove all the critical systems that impact the game from the client.
Examine game logs between the patches to figure out the persons that are duping and managed to have insane amount of money and materials.
Ban the accounts who exploited and duped.
If however they change the amount of time it takes to level up crafting professions and gathering skills, I would be in favor for a server wipe. Still before that can happened they must change all critical systems that impact the gameplay from client to server. Otherwise we will have the same problems again.
“I didn’t use any exploits, so why should i be punished? it’s that simple.”
I understand your point of view and many people will have this same perspective - but are you considering the long-term consequences behind leaving in these duplicated goods or gold? From the point it started up until the point it gets fully fixed there will / could already be millions of gold worth of products waiting to be vended by players, groups, organizations, or bots who are exploiting the game in order to profit real world gold by selling in-game currency. Oldschool RuneScape’s economy is suffering today due to that because they are in too deep to reset. We are only in a month.
We have to understand that in another month or two, say these horded duplicated products become released into the economy… the prices for everything deflate, your hard word in skilling is meaningless, and your only hope to make gold is to quest at that point because nothing is worth anything anymore due to mass abundance of high-quality products.
At that point, we just have an online PvP game and the rest of the elements of the game become meaningless and efforts become wasted.
Maybe a wipe isn’t the best idea, but it might not be the worst either. Everyone in this thread is just arguing back and forth about what they want or don’t want, but we need to consider options that will actually help fix the issue.
Personally, I think a rework of item rarity is in order, and NPC vendors wouldn’t be the worst thing in comparison to completely removing everyone’s progress. Just food for thought because we all want to come out of this mess on the winning end.
I saw someone mention this particular fix at one stage and thought it would work well.
Once all the bugs have been fixed, AGS should release NEW servers that CANNOT be transferred to. Only NEW CHARACTERS can be made on these servers. All the old servers that have Duped items or “Dead Economy” can be labelled “Legacy” or something to that effect.
This way, the people that don’t care about the economy can continue playing their characters, all duped items/gold are stuck in the Legacy servers. Those that have real issues with it can start again with a FRESH economy on a new server.
I don’t know who to credit for this idea but I thought it was a great idea and a potential fix for people.
The game has been out for a month (still fresh) and I would like to feel that AGS is trying their hardest to get on top of all these things and get the game to a really great point in the future. I am absolutely loving this game and will continue playing it through all of these issues, I just hope that they can fix these issues to retain/regain the playerbase.
It may take a while, and people need to be patient but I’m confident in the direction they are going.
Thanks Milnerr! That was me…here on this post. I’m sure there were others, but there’s some good discussion in that particular one:
Let the dupers and exploiters keep what they get and stay where they’re at, we can go somewhere fresh when they’ve fixed what they can and have some ability to prevent an avalanche of future issues that wreck the game. No hurry…but would be something to look forward to.
Or shut everything down and fix it, restart the entire thing.
The only ones not wanting this are those hoping that they can keep what they grabbed by using illicit methods and gained an advantage over those who didn’t do it.
speak for yourself. there is no reason for a wipe. this is all fixable. a server wipe would kill the game. if they did that now I know I’d walk away. I didn’t sign up fo ra beta. I gave them money. sure wipe the accounts of people who cheated. but there is no reason to wipe the accounts of those who did not because some did and because their code was bad.
These options may seem like good alternatives, but what happens when any (if not all) of the bugs/exploits/etc. appear or reappear…or new ones are found? Do we keep bouncing around from new server to new server, or go through future wipes?
You summed up everything with this sentence. This game should never have left early access. It reeks, at best, as a push in an “EA-style” method to get money rolling in to start offsetting the development costs put into the game…which, right now, seems like a laughable sentence to type.
Merge servers; (some servers are low populated, so if you merge somehow they can easly party up for elite farm in shattered mountain or other zones. But just for party raids.)
Fix your anti-cheat. Blacklist 3rd party apps so when someone opens a blacklisted app or an app that modifies the values in game it can be autobanned/kicked;
WIPE OUT SERVERS AND PREPARE FOR A NEW RELUNCH.
I know that everything is now broken with this gold dupe so there is no fun anymore. I would prefer to start again from the begining with all this bugs fixed. Now I have spent ~400h in game, lvl 60, 530gs, 200 arcana. But I really want to a server wipe. Just make a refund link for those who wants their money back because they spent a lot of time playing (testing) this game and for the others who wants to start from the begining reward a 2x/3x XP progression.
Or other way you can wipe all AH items, gold from companies treasury, gold from players and all their items. Leave them just the gear and 2k gold each.
Sorry for my bad english, I’m not a native speaker. And correct me if my opinion is wrong. Thanks.
I have no idea, Blackbane.
Because, imho, this game is not ready for release.
And again, imho, NW needs much more time of solid development. Idk, a year, maybe more.
This game could be in early access with some official info about random server wipes possibility, because its needed for test changes (or whatever) during development proccess.
Meantime Lost Ark would be released, for example - near the end of autumn and everybody would be happy.
NW Community with their early access game and LA Community with their western release.
Two sources of feedback, cash and time for New World development.
This wouldn’t be a sound business decision depending on how large AGS is and whether or not they have dedicated teams for each game. Assuming they have a pool of devs that they pull from, it would mean they would have to work on 2 games at once, which imo isn’t very practical for the devs or customers who are probably leery about how well AGS can handle just 1 game at this point.
Like I said in my previous response, I agree with you that NW should’ve remained in early access.
(screen from twitter, found somewhere in the past)
The fact is that publishing someone else’s game is not the same as development their own, and they have resources to do this in the same time, like they stated before.
But yeah, they already failed with LA release, so everything is possible.
I am late to this post, but I think a full wipe will actually make the game that much more inviting in a monetary sense for the AGS team. Who (potential new players) wants to come into a game that’s been ripped into financial shreds?
Also I bought this game with an intention of getting a year or so out of it, a month delay to fix what is broken, just seems to be the right thing to do?
Someone mentioned just creating new servers to start fresh and proper, but one problem is that you’d have to lock all the problem servers and disallow transfers due to all the bad faith actors; another big ball of things to tackle.
I have no answers, just some things to think about. I went through this with Everquest and APB: Relaoded games for years.
Rollbacks at the very least can save a major part of the game (tradeskills and trader house especially)
AGS need to get it sorted but its definetly not a server wide problem on every server.
Why not just cancel the game?
Far worse has happened in other mmos and didn’t need a wipe, and really can’t see why this is any different. Aye, its a serious problem, but just needs fixing. Like all the other stuff that needs fixing. Time will heal most wounds!
Normally I would not be this strong in a statement. Seriously, your solution is purely not thought out and absurd.
You are telling me that because a FEW abused a system that I need to waste my /played of 17+ days. Are you kidding me? Your solution is a NON-starter.
The resolution is in the TOS. Those that abused should be perma-banned and the issues fixed. Now, after the offenders are banned and the bugs fixed, then you go to work on the remedies. Punishing innocent people is NOT the solution.
You are very mistaken if you think a “few” abused the system. ENTIRE CLANS abused the system. In addition to the individual players. You severely are underestimating the damage done. Multiple servers economies are completely ruined and unrecoverable. The only solution is a server/character wipe. Otherwise there will always be that few minority that will hold an advantage from there unethical behavior. AGS can not and will not “catch” them all.
There are a few different forms of a wipe they could utilize. You do not have to necessarily wipe everyone’s’ accounts and start from level 1.
You could just completely wipe all equipped and stored items, while retaining character progression, housing, and giving each character a standard set of equipped gear based on level. Reset all territory control to neutral. Everything is soft reset other than character and weapon progression.
Considering that less than 10% of the total game population is 60, to say that it is A HUGE amount is a fallacy. Math is not subjective like your emotions about this.
