Shut everything down, try to salvage this mess and relaunch it in a year or whenever it’s actually ready. This is embarrassing.
It’s dead if they don’t. If they fix the things that are broken while they take down the servers and restart, at least they’ll have new players for the game, and the remaining loyal ones who enjoyed it without the exploits / dupes, and would again.
Unless you’re saying the majority of the players are the ones cheating, and that they’re the ones who would leave. If that’s so, then maybe you’re right.

I didn’t cheat and enjoyed it. I have multiple characters and no have leveled professions too much to do it again, I’m pretty sure I’m not alone in this, but anyway I’m not worried they won’t wipe

This is so pathetic the game is already destroyed. Dead server everywhere even on a high pop serv.
I prefer the odds of them buttoning up dupes and exploits over the course of a year more than hoping that there wont be another economy ruining issue tomorrow/next week. They’ve shown that they’re incapable of fighting these fires faster than they can spread.

It very well might be. I’m not at home to verify. But just because items aren’t on the auction house doesn’t meant they haven’t been duped. It would make very little sense to flood the market with stuff like asmodeum if you wanted to avoid a ban/rollback.
Trying to make a somehow educated guess without having the seen code once is really amusing me. But on the other hand it’s a shame for the industry that there are still people lurking around trying to sound educated while having no clue about the reality (because they cannot obviously).

Game design and development is a whole different topic than doing development for business with set criteria and processes that can be incorporated into a software.
If your test code is ten times larger than what it actually applies in the end, you’re doing it wrong anyways. Exhaustive unit testing is an artifact from the past because it is completely inefficient.

You can’t even tell what they changed because you cannot know. What’s your source of information? The patch notes? If you were a professional you would know the difference between a public changelog and the actual changes made. We’re talking about an MMORP, a super complex system that depends on a lot of variables to even be able to produce a lot of bugs that exist. And having a duplication bug that is caused by closing a connection at the right time might have a big impact on the game economy, but programming wise it’s a complex problem that depends on a lot of moving parts.
And if you were a professional you would also know about the creativity of the end user compared to the devs. That’s also a reason why exhaustive unit testing is pointless when doing it for the coverage.
But looking at the super profound explanation you’re giving I would expect you’re the expert programmer number 1, like the 007 of all devs that never produces bugs. Instead of making wild guesses and explaining simple terms like spaghetti code you should better stop talking nonsense.

Or freeze trade and do a database search of who has this stuff (pro tip; it’s not as many as you think) and delete all their shit, character included and delete any item handed from them to anyone

My server is also the one with the video of 7,000 void ingots; as of like 8 hours ago on my last AH check void ores were going for 23k a pop and no voidbent armour was on the trading post
Just simply NOOOOOOO. If you want to wipe, start a new damn character, on a new server and leave the real players alone. Simple.

Imagine if AGS was transparent in the banning of exploiters from the beginning. Although people would still exploit the numbers would have been significantly more manageable. People are doing it bc they know nothing will happen.
I would be OK with equipment/mats/gold wipe if the exploits were actually fixed…but I am not leveling up to 60 again or relearning professions.

Unless there’s going to be fresh no-transfer servers starting a new character is pointless, you’d still be joining the same ecosystem compromised by weeks of egregious duping and exploiting.
But fresh servers only make sense once the game is fixed and stable, and we don’t seem to be anywhere close to that for now.
These are only the well known exploits and dupes. There’s 0 chance a wipe would cure the problem. They don’t even lift a finger until there are nicely edited videos/screenshots by players…no game masters, no monitoring databases to see some guy just got 10k legendary mats out of thin air, or that some brand new account got millions of gold suddenly.
They have a laundry list of major bugs and they can’t peddle fast enough.
There are straight up hacks being sold the whole client/server infrastructure is shit, separate from the in game exploits/dupes/bugs. Then you have free and paid botting programs for harvesting, questing, resource creation, external programs to the game. Easy anti cheat is easy to bypass, false sense of security.
This was the first and last game AGS will be making, bunch of clowns.
