I picked up New World last night for the first time, only sunk an hour or 2 into it but was fun. At work now looking into it some more, and see that Fresh Start servers are being pushed out. As a new player with only a couple of hours in game, should I bail and start over for peak noob experience? Or won’t it matter by the time I bumble my way through it?
Fresh start would be a good choice imo. Everybody on more even playing field off the bat

I’d wait for fresh start man. But I’d also expect queues on those for the first week at least

I recommend you start over. You will easily find people to do low-level content with. You might have a hard time finding people willing to do the low-level stuff.

FSS for sure! I’ve played a few hundred and will most definitely be starting fresh start server for my main. My other 2 chrs will be Ironman Mode solo characters.

Nice one, I’ll start over this evening then. Out of interest, are Fresh Start servers a frequernt thing throughout the year? What happens on the established servers, do they just see an exodous of players?
This is the first time they’ve happened so no one knows, so make the most of them.

If it can help you I have 500 hours of games on New World and a break of 11 months and whether it is for me an old player or a new player like you the fresh start is the best opportunity that exists to discover or rediscover the game
The existing servers have a base of HLP players and I sincerely think that for new players it must be complicated to arrive on a server with the majority already max level

I would also highly recommend trying all of the weapons out until you find the ones you like. Playing with a weapon you don’t like can put you off the game. I initially chose life staff and hatchet and hated the experience and left. Came back and played bow/spear and I love it!! Don’t follow YouTube guides as there’s a lot out of date that remain on YouTube and even if it’s a “meta build” it doesn’t mean you’ll enjoy it. Muskets are my prime example. They are supposed to be great but I hate playing them. Experiment and enjoy the experience of trying new things. Don’t rush it like other MMOs as NW is a lot more immersive despite being less so now because of the exp nerf requiring you 50% less exp to hit max level.
Take you time and have fun. You can always post on here if you need help. Ignore the trolls though! There are a few about on here and they are constantly negative. Just don’t acknowledge them or they’ll latch onto you.

Fresh Start yes. But expect your crafting advancement to go slowly as the stations need to be upgraded by the territory governor which has proven to be a highly variable experience.

That can be a good thing though, in my opinion. It could allow players to get the base level crafting done and progress slowly as things develop. It’s a bit crap for bags and stuff tools though! But it’s been done before and we’ll do it again. All the fun of the game.
When I returned I rerolled and still had flint tools at 35, as I totally forgot to upgrade them! doh!

lol I did the same with flint tools. I think I got up into the 40’s before upgrading to starmetal tools at the right TP price.
