New players beware!

This game is filled with toxic trolls. Do your research, look at the forums and reddit, and understand why this game is where it is today, and whether it’s worth your money. You will be able to tell the state of the game from the responses this post gets

The forum is for sure full of toxic trolls that for some weird reason needs the game to fail and needs to tell everyone about that daily. In-game the atmosphere is really nice with around a million active players spread on to many servers unfortunately. But mergers are on the horizon.

Having a million active players means nothing for an MMO if half the time you can’t find someone to do content with. Concurrent numbers is a better indicator. Though if we are going to measure a game’s health by active players, how is activity defined? What’s the threshold to determine active, 1hr a day? 1 hr a week?

A ‘million players per day’ but the total peak players on at any given time only hitting 120k.

My advice: save your money for now, unless NW is something you really want to experience. Personally I think there are many issues that need addressing first.

Kind of wish they would release a demo type thing. You cap out at a low level. Maybe like 20-30, then your stuck at that, until you buy the game. Tradeskills/gathering maybe let em max at 50. Make it not possible to post in global or trade. Once you hit the cap, it doesn’t let you use whatever it is. As in it won’t let you harvest, mine, make leather, and so on, until you buy the game.

Would probably bring in more players that are put off of spending $40 due to the trolls and negativity.

With New World, you hate it or you love it. Don’t know till you try.

I mentioned the active players because people think the game is dying when in reality it’s one of the most popular games on Steam and one of the most popular mmorpgs in the world. But the population is spread very thin on to many servers.

I didn’t say a million per day. I said a million active players. Players dont play daily in average and they don’t play 24h/day in average so the total active playerbase over a day/week is many times higher than the daily peak. The weekly active playerbase is higher than the daily and so on.

Actually never considered this, even though there are many examples of this system. Haha. Yeah this would be an amazing way to bring new players in. Though, i’d tweak it a little to let them interact with the economy, but put a far far lower cap on the amount of gold they can hold at any one time? Or maybe a lifetime limit of gold?

This is just my experience, but the players in the game itself seem quite nice. I haven’t seen any trolls. The forums may differ, but there’s no need to read them - and the game shouldn’t be judged by them.

But I do agree with and want to highlight one of your points: do your research. That isn’t even a mantra for this game, but for any game - and in fact, for anything in life, really.

On NW, I took several days to watch videos and read blogs on new world. I wrote pros and cons on my whiteboard (yes, really) and considered carefully whether I wanted to put what gaming time I had available into this game over the other 300 I have in various game services that I’d like to get to one day. Obviously, I decided it was worth a try and I’m very happy. This is my funtime for now.

So, yeah, research ftw.

Tell me where you got your “million active players” information from then? Because if it was that MMO populations website like so many of you grab your info from, they even state a “million active players per day”.

This information is not available anywhere so you have to make an estimate based on estimated average playtime and concurrent players. To support a daily peak and concurrent players of around 30k-180k you need around a million weekly active players and 400k or so daily.

You’d be able to back your point up better if you provided facts rather than extrapolations based on judgement. However I do look forward to how the game will fare after servers are merged. A lot of people aren’t transferring yet because they don’t know what things will be like post-merge.

We have facts on concurrent players and we can estimate average playtime and based on that draw a reasonable conclusion.

These estimates doesn’t matter at all though. The only thing that matters for players are concurrent players on the individual servers.

why exactly do you think people are toxic :face_with_raised_eyebrow::face_with_raised_eyebrow::face_with_raised_eyebrow:

The game is clearly in an awful state. I wouldn’t advise inviting people to suffer with you :face_with_raised_eyebrow::face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Problem with that is I loved the game until I hit 30. Then a lot of things started to go very very wrong, some of which didn’t really have anything to do with the game itself, but certain decisions made to try to fix things.

Hey! How dare you call us toxic trolls you &^$%^*&@^(!@

I’m kidding you. I’ve got lots of complaints about the balance of PVP and some end-game PVE complaints too … but overall I’ve gotten more than my $40 worth of entertainment. I’m hoping they can fix some of the issues so I actually stay with it long term. I’m kind of on the fence as it is now.

there are a few loud trolls on the forums, but i have had a good time, so far. the pop is doing well. i see new players all the time, so that is nice. the devs seem to be working hard to attempt to fix things, which i good to see. often, mmo’s have to wait to push a fix until a big update or because they are cross platform

overall, i am having a blast. i few things i would change and all, but still fun

This is all that’s needed to see the state of the game.

Find your server, compare to others in your region.

Sort the entire list by % FULL and you’ll see the viable servers game wide out of 485 INDIVIDUALLY named servers.

There are servers with 7 players on them. right now. That’s it and they probably don’t even know it.

I have to assume that ANY server with only double-digit active players at peak time are filled with bots.

the Bots run unchecked all day long on those servers. they’re left alone for appearances most likely.
