New World flagged as a Trojan?

Starting today, guessing coz something was changed to trigger the start of the corrupted bunnies event, New World has been flagged as a high risk trojan by my Kaspersky anti-virus. Kaspersky has deemed it such a big threat that it immediately deletes the .exe file as soon as the game is launched. I have never seen Kaspersky do this for any other program on my PC and this made me very curious.

I understand that you’re having some difficulties to launch the New World after the most recent update.
As a first step lets (Steam Support :: Verify Integrity of Game Files)

First and before attempting to launch the game again make sure that if you are using any Antivirus software add NewWorld.exe to exceptions or to trusted/white list.

In addition you can take a look at the (Troubleshooting Lag and Connectivity Issues - Support | Amazon Games) for additional troubleshooting steps.

If the situation persists I’ll recommend you to (Contact Us | Amazon Games), to be able to investigate this situation in depth.

This doesn’t really help. I am in same boat kasperky deletes the exe file upon running game.

I already did the whole verify integrity of the game thing to get the .exe file back and tried to launch it again but Kaspersky reacted the same way.

As for the second solution, I am inclined not to do that as my anti virus has identified the NewWorld.exe file as a major threat to my system. I am not just going to ignore this warning and hope it was a false flag as if any damage comes to my computer, I am 99% sure I will not be compensated by AGS. A change in the game files was implemented by the developers that makes it be seen as a Trojan program and I think this warrants an investigation by the developers if more accounts of this problem arise hence why I made the post so if anyone else has encountered the same issue they can voice it here.

Now, I am not accusing AGS if malicious intent against their consumers but for all I know there could be a very angry dev that injected malicious code into the latest patch or there is a chance that an external hack happened that has yet to be detected that injected said malicious code or this could be a false flag by my anti virus. Personally I think it is very bad to respond to such a problem by telling the person to just outright ignore the massive red warning from a program they paid for to protect their device. I’ll monitor the situation over a set duration of time before taking such a drastic action but hey, atleast I made the issue known :smiley:

I see I am not the only one. This is comforting (means its not a problem with my PC) but also worrying (as it could mean NewWorld.exe is actually a program containing a trojan virus since the latest patch)

You can proceed with the “Disinfect and restart computer” and then take a look at this other post(Virus on new update, 12.04.2023 - #21 by Yueying) regarding the same situation, it includes detailed instructions about how to add those exceptions to Kaspersky Antivirus.

After you have followed the instructions related to adding the exceptions to your Antivirus go back and (Steam Support :: Verify Integrity of Game Files)

Every time I install it, it sees a virus and deletes Newworld.exe.

I did all of this. If i still run the program it deletes the exe. I can turn of Antivirus and it will run. "I shouldn’t have to do this tho. I am losing faith here ins AGS. Since my return every patch you guys put out, resulted in me not being able to play game.

New Season Patch, “all gear was deleted and bags”, couldn’t play for 2 days. Last night trying to do the main story quest in Weaver Fen, “boss wouldn’t spawn”, now your coding is causing virus alerts, even if its a false alert, why is all of this happening only on your game?

In this way we can analyze the main issue and get it fixed ASAP.

For all those who are facing the same problem (after trying all the troubleshooting steps of course ) please share with us your logs and dxdiag

Instructions for generating a DXdiag: Open and run DxDiag.exe
Instructions for finding the in-game logs:

  1. Press Windows+R on the keyboard, type %appdata% and press enter.
  2. Open the most recent file from this folder: /AppData/local/AGS/LogBackups.
  3. Paste the contents of the file into your message.

Kinda glad its not just me. Verified the files multiple times, updated drivers and restarted. All nothing, also glad it seems that this issue has been brought to their attention. Hope it gets fixed soon!

I hope the fix is soon Loosing valuable resources in the game due the AGS latest patch

Just add an exception into the Kaspersky program. Most Anti-Virus programs have settings for these exact kinds of issues.

BTW Kaspersky is a waste. Unnecessary.
