New world Horizontal and Vertical Attacks for Weapons

This post showcases game mechanics and attack type for new world, incorporating these would add complexity to the combat.

In New World weapons like the spear have vertical attacks and no horizontal attacks
while sword and shield have horizontal attacks and vertical.
Every weapon in new world needs a horizontal and vertical
This would allow the player to attack multiple mobs or one player.
Their weapon type wouldn’t be at a disadvantage.

Horizontal attacks
These weapon attacks are used from horizontal angles, they are used
when a player is versing multiple mobs or multiple players.

Vertical attacks
These weapon attacks are used from vertical angles, they are used
when versing 1 player.

Thrust attacks- These are vertical motion attacks like a poke / stab
( as thrust attacks are from a vertical angle they are categorically vertical attacks )

In Pvp
The horizontal attack would allow a player to vs multiple players
their weapon type wouldn’t limit them to only attacking one player at a time.
After the player defeats multiple players with the horizontal attack, The player would
use the vertical attack.

The player would be able to change from horizontal to vertical or Thrust to horizontal to vertical during gameplay. Players can assign the different move sets to their combos light and heavy attacks.

Weapon Type Light and Heavy Attack Editor feature and Double Heavy attacks:
Weapon types in new world should have the feature to be able to swap out weapon combos for
light and heavy attacks.

  • Light Attack: Deals 100% Slash damage.
  • Light Ender: Deals 105% Slash damage.
  • Heavy Attack: Deals 120% Thrust damage.
  • Charged Heavy: Deals 160% Thrust damage.

In new world the players sword and shield weapon combo for the light attack ender make a horizontal 360 twirl . And for the heavy attack a vertical poke.

These are light and heavy attacks variations for the sword and shield class,

  • which players would be able to edit for their weapon type. example if the player didn’t like the light and heavy attack of the sword and shield they would be able to customize them to different light and heavy attack animations.

  • Players using the same weapon types with a combo editor feature would make weapon types exciting. (as every player would have their own customized light and heavy attack animations ) There would be quest and gameplay for unlocking more weapon type attack animations.

  • Players would be able to unlock the different light and heavy attack animations by playing new world. With that weapon type.

  • example to get new straight sword light and heavy attack animations, The player would use that weapon and defeat monsters.
    ( the weapon attack may drop randomly like a loot item )

  • example Using a warhammer would drop war hammer light and heavy attacks from npc mobs, it would not drop any other weapon type light and heavy attacks.

Currently In new world heavy attack is a vertical poke (thrust attack) this attack animation is available: for the sword and shield

Move set editor:

  • Players can edit their character move sets

  • edit the light and heavy attack animations, new world should have this feature.

  • Players would be able to edit the move sets by selecting different horizontal and vertical for their weapon type. for light attack, players can select all horizontal
    or all vertical and mix and match.

  • For heavy attacks, players would be able to select different heavy attack animations a horizontal or vertical

  • For aerial attacks, players would be able to select different aerial attack animations a horizontal or vertical

  • For jumping attacks, players would be able to select different jumping attack animations a horizontal or vertical

  • Players should be able to do 1 or 2 heavy attacks by double-tapping and holding the button input. or 3 heavy attacks.

  • Players being able to do 2 light attacks or 3 or 4 light attacks

  • Players would be able to do 1 aerial attack or 2 or 3 aerial attacks

  • Players would be able to change the 1 jumping attack

How to obtain new move sets: players can unlock them as rewards by playing.
they would drop like a loot item or they can dropped by defeating npc monsters
and obtaining them.
This feature would add more customization to players weapon types.
for new world gameplay, players would play to unlock more attack types by farming them.

Each horizontal and vertical move sets can have their own effects and abilities when
used by the player:

movement: horizontol ( Other movement type can be vertical or thrust )
range: 1.7 meteres
stamina cost: 6
Impact on Guard: 1
start up: 13
advantage on Hit: 4
adv on guard: 1

weapon deadlock feature: When two players swing their weapon at the same time or both players use weapon skills the deadlock occurs, Players would press button rapidly to win the deadlock. The player that loses the deadlock would have their stance broken. (open for a riposte critical )

Jumping attack (grit):

  • Jumping attack would have grit and be a heavy attack for weapon types

  • Jumping attack is different from a plunging attack as its not a critical attack and the damage output is lower, the same as the light and heavy attack of weapon types

  • the jumping attack can be used when the player jumps and can be used any time without any conditions

  • Jumping attack is different from aerial attacks as they attack player or monster that’s on the ground

  • jumping attacks cant be countered

  • jumping attack would be air heavy attacks

  • jumping attack is an airborne attack that lets the user dodge most ground-based attacks

  • players can choose to have different jumping attack animations, make them horizontal or vertical from the move set editor feature.

  • all weapon types would be able to use jumping attacks

Aerial attack- The player can jump while in the air and do weapon attack combos: Light attack and Heavy attack

  • aerial attack would have no grit and be a light attack for weapon types

  • aerial attacks are different from jumping attacks as they do not attack a player or monster that’s on the ground, but attack foes that are in the air

  • aerial attacks can be countered

  • aerial attacks would be air light attacks

  • the aerial attack can be used to let players negate jumping attack users.

  • Or if jumping attack users and aerial attack users connect they would inflict damage to each other.

  • when both players use aerial attacks at the same time they would battle in the air damaging each other

  • the aerial attack can be used when the player jumps and can be used any time without any conditions

  • players can choose to have 1, or 2, or 3 aerial attack combo, make them horizontal or vertical and change this from the move set editor feature

  • all weapon types would be able to use aerial attacks

  • There would be 50 to 100 light and heavy and aerial and jumping attack animation players can collect for each weapon type

  • Light attack would have ( vertical, horizontal, thrust )

  • Heavy attack would have ( vertical, horizontal, thrust )

  • Aerial attacks would have ( vertical, horizontal, thrust )

  • Jumping attack would have ( vertical, horizontal, thrust )

  • more attack animations can be added for the different attack types with future updates

Plunging attack also please. Doesn’t have to be overpowered can be just left to do normal damage but plunging attack would be absolutely sublime
