I’m a casual and Im playing the game.
Don’t get me wrong, i loved this game up until i hit 60. I still hope it succeeds, and it looks like AGS is finally starting to listen to the players. I know all games have a certain gear progression grind to them, but i just hate this system. Some folks like it. Is there something i am missing then? It feels like everything is locked behind grinding something. Only thing skill based is the pvp, and on a low pop server forget about open world. And on a server that is dominated by purple, forget about wars (i am purple btw). So you only have OPR, and the ques are never full.
So now you are left with this gear progression grind. If you want to do it with crafting, you have to grind your crafting first. Chests, then grind chests. OPR /Wars - forget it. Expeditions, grind mats for tuning orbs. You can’t just log in, get a group, do a difficult dungeon and have the chance at a nice drop if your watermark is low. Not what i was expecting. Again, i know some folks like it and that is great. I tried to like it, and failed. When is there first expansion with new content? Maybe it will be better then.
You don´t need 600 Expertise to do any form of content. A well prepared group with 520 faction gear is able to clear endgame expeditions (Genesis + Lazarus) with ease. In MMOs players who play 1-2 hours a day will never be able to have the same amount of progression as someone who plays 10 hours a day, thats just how MMOs are.
I know this. Gear drops are still gated behind players watermark right? Not around content difficulty.
The changes add new avenues to get levels up. You can now play as you’d like without running zergs.
And what MMO’s are you playing then. You are saying that all MMO’s progression is dependent on time played vs skill of player? lol
Yes their GS it gated behind watermark. But you will be able to increase your Expertise by doing pretty much anything, you won´t be forced to do chest runs. You will get there, slower than a player that plays 10 hours a day but we don´t have infinite gearscore, it ends at 600, for now. You will catch up
About the only thing appealing to me is expeditions. How do i get more tuning orbs?
let’s hope eventually they’ll be easier to make.
I am confused.
I think its based on the destination.
If your destination in playing New World is to experience the game its self then a casual player would actually have more longevity in playing the game. Say all the content is grinding GS to 600, maxing all crafting skills to 200, maxing all refining skills to 200, maxing all gathering skills to 200, playing hours of OPR, playing hours of Wars, playing hours of invasions, and playing hours of dungeons/arenas takes 600 hours total. Then someone who plays 1-2 hours a day would have some progression, some enjoyment in moving forward for 300ish days. Where as a hardcore person who plays 8 hours a day would only have that for 75ish days.
However if your destination in playing New World is to have everything the 75 day guy has just as fast as he has it, then I guess you are going to be frustrated very quickly.
Really does it matter? I am a casual and I have been grinding my watermark out daily for a few hours. I may not make it to 600 in everything, but I will have a huge jump for when the new system is launched. The second post when they mentioned 1.2 in Dev corner flat out said that they will be grandfathering in values. So, hint hint, get to grinding!.
My destination was to log in, do a dungeon or 2 and maybe a little bit of pvp. I guess i should have expected to have to grind mats for tuning orbs and to sit in an empty que. lol
Still confused?
You need stonecutting and you can craft them. 100 for Genesis and 150 do Lazarus orbs.
No that clears things up.
You can do that. Log on, do Amrine or Dynasty, jump into OPR and gather things to make your next key to the dungeon.
Will you be able to do end game dungeons, not for a long time. Will you be a top performer in OPR, not for a long time. However you can still do what you want. Just at a slower pace than you expected most likley.
define casual / harcore to me it’s not just something tide to time but rather to skill / difficulti.
in new world, skill does not matter really. Just time played.
of you’r talking about gear aquisition yea, in combat skill is the main thing that’s why it’s an action combat system. Although yea there isn’t enough way to express you’r skill in this game and that’s sad .
i saw that drawing and yes i would have to agree, this game is in a really odd spot because it was a pvp open sandbox game that the devs forced pve onto, and while doing this they made a half-baked game thats not really meant for anyone…
whats killed the game for me is the changes to the elites, and the changes to leveling trade skills, this new patch doesnt make we want to come back either.
personally, i think they should have been taking this time to fix bugs and not changing or adding things…
I’m a casual and still loving the game. Best game I have seen and it is only getting better.
it’s based on time, and knowledge of the game
