I think the brimstone update shows AGS is improving and, in my opinion, they can start charging money for future expansions. I think new world will be around for awhile.
I just bought a skin. Mainly to support the game because I have definitely gotten my money’s worth and would like to support further development.
Did you added tons of Twitch Primes and added values via Twitch viewers into your calculations?
Ive purchased several armor skins and even a couple of weapon skins now since release. They’re not all winners for sure but there are some I like and to help support the game.
Although I certainly won’t be buying any more skins anytime soon until I see some meaningful balance changes to the pvp scene.
I am sure at some point the expansions will cost money… But I think the dev team is fighting for active daily users right now more than making cash… Amazon does have some deep pockets.
I’m pretty sure Amazon technically loses money on Prime Video, Prime Free Shipping, Kindle Lending, etc. and that’s by design.
They offer super good deals so that people get Prime subscriptions, and that’s not even the real goal. Once you have a Prime subscription, now you are drawn towards free shipping, low price “Amazon Basics” knock-offs, and other ways Amazon has essentially taken over retail and mail-order shopping.
AGS doesn’t have to worry about turning a profit. This game, like most things Amazon does, has a secret agenda of getting people to buy more stuff through Amazon.
For once i can agree with andrew lol
I’ve personally spent over $80 for skins in New World. And I don’t really play the game often. Maybe like 10 hours of gameplay a month if lucky.
So, I can only imagine how much people who are New World mains are spending on cosmetics. Cosmetics is the way to my wallet. ESO made over $3000 from me buying cosmetics, GW2 made close to $1200, BDO has made over $1000, and we just taking about my personal cosmetic purchases.
New World just have to break some vision to deliver some skins that many people will spend money on. Boom, huge amount of profit to be made without P2W in just cosmetics.
We’re both passionate people with strong opinions, for sure.
To be fair, it actually feels like a paid-for expansion if you notice how it is gated:
- Entering the region instant-kills you.
- You need to do one particular quest that unlocks the area for you.
For a free expansion, that gating mechanism didn’t make any sense. If it costs you nothing but to complete a simple free quest, then why having that gating mechanism at all?
Easy: In other games they lock certain quests behind expansion passes you need to buy from the store. That way, that “sunscreen cream” quest is the one you buy pass for.
Then, for some reason or another, they decided to make it free.
But they left the sunscreen quest there.
Think on it… Sunscreen to get to Brimstone Sands, when we are usually covered with armor from head to toes?
People are really complaining about everything these days …gated behind a quest
jesus christ.
Trolling…this is outside the purview of players.
Brimstone was always a free update. They’ve always called it this. They have NEVER said expansion.
It’s not enough content for an expansion.
It’s in line with their stated content schedule and roadmap.
And the quest does serve a purpose. It ensures that everyone in Brimstone Sands is level 60.
Youve taken one tiny aspect of the release and used it to define the whole thing.
Is that what it’s come to?
The industry has trained us to actually want overly monetized games?
Today I feel old.
This entire Alpha experience is all for them to show off the Twitch integration, package it up, and sell it to the highest bidder.
If Amazon is structured into a S Corp, they can take a massive tax write off for Amazon. New World isn’t going anywhere as long as it’s generating some sort of revenue.
Found the dev.
You lost me here
and i would love to hear your reasoning behind this statement ![]()
Me alone i have spent around $350 on shop tokens plus another $80 for 2 copies of the game so ive given them $430 myself and i imagine people have spent well over me.
You know we are talking about Amazon here ![]()
We don’t know what type of strategy they have for New World and future games, it may be long term and they can afford it.
skins not selling well? Did you pay attention to how does players look when you are in ef or ww? On legacy servers its hard to find player not using shop skins. Dunno about fresh ones.
