New World October Roadmap

Hello New World Adventurers.
I am player that left 7 months ago due to the lack of relevant game updates and planning to return together with tons of new and other players that left the game early. And give it a new chance at the octomber expansion with AGS announcement of the possibility of adding fresh ( disable transfer) servers.

HAPPY 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY BTW.

All those who left in the early days (900.000 players) and perhaps New Players will look at this expansion as how the game should have been launched in the first place, 1 year ago.
So for many of us, fresh shiny new servers with transfer blocked is the best way to experience the game as it should have been since day one.
We will look at the game as it just launched today.

But few things never change: New World Devs go silent in the most important moments:
They had a chance to make a big boom with their hard work over the last year, at the 1 year anniversary. But what they did?. They said the same things that everyone already knew about.
No exciting news for the upcoming year, no roadmap, few words about fresh servers with the expansion and halloween event around the corner.

As usuall, they will leave everything for the last day before the update.

They missed a big marketing and a huge player base recover opportunity.

So, as for the title of the topic, here is my suggestion for you. I will even give you some extra time so you can sort things out:

ROADMAP:

Split the octomber monthly update into 3 separate updates.

  1. Patch 1.6.9: (12 or 19 October) - Release the new revamped leveling 1-25 experience together with Fresh Servers With Transfers Disabled.
  2. Patch 1.7: (26 October) - The deadly sands: Release the new Brimstone Sands and Greatsword. Including the halloween event.
  3. Patch 1.8: (31 Octomber) - Activate the halloween event.

That way, if you are planning to add truly fresh servers, everyone has 1 or 2 weeks time to level up to 60, enjoy the new map and the halloween event at the same time with existing players.

PS: 1. ik some of you will just say: just play on existing servers blah blah. but really, would you play from level 1 to 60 alone, struggling and waiting who knows how much to enter a dungeon or to find a party for X thing, with players same level as you?
I had over 1.5k hours in game, max gear 625, my group was the one of the first to finish lazarus m10 and the first to clear m10 Dinasty.
Had full gold cap, tons of materials and named items, diff builds for watever. We had literally nothing to do in game other than hunting people in SM and dueling south of WW to try new perk+skills combos. We had everything we wanted. We literally beat the game by that point. So we quit. ( this is for the ones who says that I didnt try to play the game or whatever)

You’ll just leave again after a couple months. Same with everyone else that quit after 1 or 2 months or less.

:person_shrugging:

If they do actually do fresh servers, they’ll be merged into the current servers eventually.

Also, it’s easy to fill lower level dungeons atm.

We left because of the horendous bugs/ exploits / lack of relevant updates.

Now in year 2, after they fixed the majority of problems, ags has a chance of actually delivering content instead of focusing 90% of time on fixing a broken game wich will hold more and new players. Game is growing back up now. No more player bleeding. So, keep up with your negativity.

I don’t disagree that the three things probably need to be split but and I emphasize this part, it’s more important that it is released WHEN IT IS READY. The fresh start servers, even with the demand, can wait if that means a hold up on the Quality and Polish on the other two. People can do Fresh Starts anytime, it could be November.

The holiday event really needs to be before burning sands unless it has components that are tied to burning sands. If they release them together or the event right after the new zone then fewer people will participate in the event. Their goal should be to get more mileage out of what they actually produce. To do that the event needs to come first.

Fresh Start really can’t come without the new 1-25 experience. I have no idea how their code base is segmented and if it is possible to split that out but if it is without screwing up the other two pieces then I have no problem rolling that out earlier again if it is ready.

We don’t want stuff just pushed with bugs that could be fixed given a few more weeks simply because we have a bunch of fan bois who came back screaming to rush content again. They have done a good job of slowing that down and releasing things more when they are ready but I’d hate to see them move back to December where each patch had more bugs than content and fixes in it.

Ye of coruse i agree. We wouldnt want them to release something as thei did, an unready game. In my opinion the game should have launched this year, in this current state. Until now it has been like a Beta Test game

They advertised the new 1-25 experience to come with the brimstone sands expansion, so for this reason, togheter with the leveling revamp, would be in their best intrests to introduce fresh servers.

One other option would be to introduce them after they revamp the whole 0-60 experience, but until they do that, too much time would pass and they would miss quite some generous cash generation from this opportunity. Game already doubled in size since brimstone and great sword was announced,

Me, my discord guild of 100 players, and the some of the other 900k that left in early days before reaching level 30 due to the crappy boring leveling experience and bugs, would really love and we waiting for fresh servers to come.

But as a side note, they already added new servers, all they have to do is to disable transfers on them by pressing one button. we know they can since they did it in the past with disabling transfers on very populated servers

Game still has bugs, and it’s going to continue to have bugs. Exploits are still gonna pop up, it’s the nature of their HORRIBLE game engine. Which, the exploits of the past has zero effect on the current game play…or atleast it’s not noticeable.

Brimstone sands will have it’s fair share of bugs at first, with some of the bad ones getting fixed pretty quick.

Going to say it again, you won’t last more than 2 months. Gives you time to hit 60, and discover that PvP is the real end game…for players that want to put the time into making friends with a pvp mindset, and put time into getting good and building their gear sets.

Sure, you can run the same 5 60+ dungeons, and 8 mutation varients…over and over. BUT, the pve end game is still lack luster.

I’m sure you’ll be posting on the forums complainikg about something, within the first month of release of the fresh servers.

Don’t get me wrong, do I wish the best for the game, and do I wanna see populations hit above 6 digits again? Absolutely…and I hope a lot of players find the game better now, compared to when they left.

However, most won’t stick to it.

I agree. Thats one of the reason why we left. Had full 625 gs set, bis, after we beat dinasty m10 in the first day, we just quit because we had nothing to do.

All we did before was dueling south of WW to try new skill combos and perks and hunt people down in SM that tried to troll us then they run away to the entire map to save themselves. I liked pvp. Dueled alot, war a lot, but war became more like a burden due to the hse of exploits and huge lagg and teleportation around that became really unfun really fast. So… we quit.

But i have hope in the devs they said they gonna focus more on character improvement and releasing new content. Hope its gonna be good, if not, as you said, will quit again after we max out, wait for new expansion or content, come back…repeat. why? Because there is literally nothing else to play. Now is the era of P2w, gatcha and other convenience purcheases. New world has none of these.

I don’t buy the cash generation aspect. Everyone is talking about returning players, new players are a very small percentage of the players coming in. They only make money on new copies sold the people coming back are bringing with them an expense to support but the vast majority aren’t going to be spending more money.

I still believe this expansion should be $9.99 at a minimum. The new leveling experience should be free like there is always changes that are free but the new zone should require the paid expansion. THAT would generate income.

Beyond that, they missed a rather large opportunity for a cash grab with the whole anniversary. Had they had a unique new skin, that was amazingly cool looking and would only be available this one time for a limited time (like a week or two) that would of generated quite a bit of revenue too compared to the time to create the asset. People love that limited time stuff.

I don’t think the money is the angle here at all.

I also really cringe at the beta comments. This is how every game releases these days. It’s how it released in the old days you just didn’t have live services to fix it. People talk like all these other games were trouble free but it’s like having a child. You forget all those painful first years or block them out once the good times come in. No game launches in a perfect state and it always takes time to hit the ground running.

Not really tho, they made the money on those 1 million of copy sold - the ones that refunded the game, but now their main income is the cash shop, aka cosmetics.

And about the beta thing, imo New world was a specjal case among other new games ( except battlefield 2044, that was a real shit show that died in 5 hours). The game was delayed over and over due to the whole game revamp from being a survival pvp to an actuall mmo. Even in open beta tests, testers like asmongold and others that leveled to 60 multiple times said the game is not ready for launch, they even had thousands of bugs reports and none was fixed for the launch. But the community asked for the game and couldn’t take another delay, so they just launched, for the better or for the worse. In this case it was very very bad, but with the loyal community, they managed to fix most of the things.

But i do agree with everything else you said. Anniversary was a miss. Expansion could cost 9.99£ but yhat somewhat will deter players from coming back. Probably in future. Or a subscription model soon, when the game will be good. Who knows.

And yet we had thousands of people play the game for a year. That makes it a playable product. Not everyone has to love it, it just has to be playable and be capable of generating revenue while you iterate and continue development.

A beta typically has far more bugs and issues than we’ve had. I’m not blowing smoke that it wasn’t on the worse end but it wasn’t beta bad where you actually have constant progression breaking bugs.

Now architecturally the servers… totally beta if not alpha even today. Not having sharding and a way to reiably handle 2x 3x what we have now on a server WITHOUT performance impacts… WITHOUT resource scarcity… that’s pretty much industry standard these days. It needed to launch with it and we still don’t have that.

I would imagine their builds are not easily to break apart… Brimstone sands is probably tied to the new towns/new player experience map changes and the halloween event is tied to the great sword since you can buy the crafting pattern. - If I had to guess it will all go live the 18th or 25th.

That just means your way to hardcore for coming to a game at launch too btw. There are very few games that have End Game fleshed out at launch. Traditionally you start introducing new PVE content like heroics or raid content after launch. Heck I’ve been part of game launches that the final intended levels weren’t even finished. They added the last few levels on the fly the month or two after launch.

This was when you used to “camp” to grind experience. Literally pulling NPCs from a position hundreds of meters away to a group on a hillside who spent several minutes killing the NPC. Before the tank go pull more back. You leveled this way in EQ and similar games. It took months even PLing to get to max back in the day.

Ye i honestly miss some of the old mmos, that like you said, it took months if not years in some cases to get to max level and obtain a reputation item set. Fun old times  ,today tho every game is made for convenience to attract every kind of customer they can. Casuals that want max level max item set in 1 day, and hardcores that want to work hard to obtain something. They usually meet somewhere in the middle now.
