New World or TESO right now?

Hello, I just wanted you to advise me which of the two games to buy, taking into account that when I reach the maximum level of pj, I really like pvp and above all, that it feels alive and active. So right now I see that there are about 2000 more players on steam in ESO than in NW. Which one I choose ? What pvp do you like more ?

DAoC atlas actually XD comes out on the 24th in open beta now (20+ year old game free shard)

There was recently a pvp overhaul patch in ff14. Think ill go check that scene out for a bit. Story is awesome regardless.

So many aspects of NW just have me burnt out at the moment.

I don’t know, the question you are asking is basically.

  • Do you choose a game where you have to do boring PvE for thousands of hours to earn the right to PvP.
  • Or do you choose the game where you can start being a factor in PvP with in the first 10 hours and can progress your PvP gear mostly through PvP. And have many different routes and forms of progression.

I don’t know, you tell me which one you should play now.

Just test it with yourself. But get ready ESO have “wooden” animations.

At this point you would have to pay me considerable amount of money. To be a BETA tester for a game. Have we not learned BETAs, and the first few months after release, means nothing! Like seriously, what’s the point of paying to “BETA test” a game only for the Dev team. To change it into a completely different game right after release. You people are actually insane!

I might be the right person to answer you OP. I played ESO for 3 years and focused on PvP. I have played new world since closed beta.

ESO is a great game with massive performance issues. The main PvP content is a zone called cyrodill where three factions fight for control of the map. You have to siege and take outposts and forts to achieve this and the person in your faction with the highest alliance points is crowned emperor. While they have this buff they are a god
Build diversity in ESO is the coolest aspect you can combine loads of different sets all acquirable fairly easily. It will take you about a week to get to a point where you can compete. You also have access to so many different skills outside of your class skills.
ESO performance problems have been fixed on the NA server. EU and console are still waiting for new servers… hence why I am still here

New world is foundationally a good game with a lot of issues. I like combat probably more in new world when it isn’t feeling too janky. It will take you quite a lot longer to be able to compete in PvP given all the bottlenecks and limitations the developers keep putting in place to slow player progression.
New world also has no where near the same amount of content.
The world, sounds and animations look great compared to ESO.
I think new worlds biggest issue is they are more concerned about keeping players grinding than ensuring they have a fun and rewarding experience.

If you are in the US I’d play ESO. The open world PvP is great when it works. Which it does in America. New world is also very fun, but it needs a lot of attention from the developers.

I agree with this post I’m quoting.

I just want to add, that in ESO, anybody and everybody can join Cyrodiil’s Alliance War PvP at any and all times of the day. And PvP in ESO offer highly sought out BoE items. That you can sell to PvEers for massive amount of gold. Also, in ESO gold is super easy to get if you are a mechanically sound gamer. (You can sell dungeon runs for gold, you can sell the motifs that drop from Veteran Hardmode DLC content for massive amounts of gold. You can sell exclusive PvP costume boxes and trait items, and If you get together a group of mechanically sound players you all can sell the Emperor title to PvE RPers.)

Yeah, ESO is not currently one of the MMOs that I’m currently investing time in these days. However I’ve sat close to the highest tier of play, and have the titles and achievements to prove it. Also made it on the PvP and PvE leaderboards multiple times during my time in ESO.

I hear you. but consider this, it’s not a new game… the “Server” is new and polishing up certain stuff and testing that stuff out. like custom loot. aside from that, it’s not technically beta. DAoC is 20+ years old :stuck_out_tongue: but yeah I hear you man… no shame in that.

I was also thinking of starting ESO i like PVP and some Pve but not sure if i will need to do another big grind to enjoy it haha

Eso was my former “main” game, played since PC launch, April 2014. I was a pvp player, but i did all the pve as well. I have extensive experience with the games and was an active member of forums, etc…

I would tend to agree with most of the points @Relentless_Turnip made above (except performance…i dont trust those new server replacements, and i have already seen/heard several reports that the old issues are creeping back in)

Pve wise, ESO is superior to New World in just about every way - excellent voice acting, lore, quests, cosmetics, RP…everything. i highly recommend it for anyone who wants a great themepark pve mmo. Top notch in this category.

Where i wont recommend the game is is you are someone who is pvp oriented and wants to pvp primarily as your end game. ZOS (Zenimax Online Studios) made a descision years ago that they would go the PVE route, and cater to very casual gameplay. They do not invest into PVP, and the neglect shows. The pvp population is nowhere near what it was in 2015…my guild lists from back then and newer ones also were completely dead when i left. Many people forget/dont know how much more populated cyrodil was then. Lackof content and neglect have driven out long time players.

The performance is atrocious…i cant stress how bad it is in that game.

The combat can be very fun and skillful in some ways, but it depends on your preference. I like New World and ESO, and can adapt to both, but New world is better in my opinion.

The battleground arenas in the game are poorly designed in my opinion and are designed to cater to a more casual playerbase…you literally cannot queue directly into a deathmatch game! You have a 20% chance of getting one, and the other modes are less pvp focused, and because there are 3 teams of 4 instead of 2, pvp can be avoided to win the other game modes. They cant give people the option of deathmatch games literally because the population is so low that it would cause long wait times.

I can see why someone would leave this game and go back to ESO as a pvp player. That makes sense to me, especially if you were one of the long time players that left when NW came out. But i cannot reccomend the game to a new player who wants a pvp focused end game. There is no focus, or investment, into end game Pvp in ESO.

I can’t disagree with anything you just said here, well put @Nagual! You are right to emphasize how much PvP is neglected by zos.
That said the basic structure of cyrodill is so cool. I would love AGS to adopt a similar structure for each zone and instead of doing PvP quests I think the aim should be to capture points simultaneously. So like a war before the war. How do you feel about that?

In terms of actual combat I do prefer new world, but it isn’t as smooth as ESO yet. It does feel better though and a lot more strategic. ESO it’s more about lining up a burst combo outside of utter cheese setups . Where as new world feels like it’s more about timing and is deliberate.
