Because so many servers have been merged, an ungodly amount of dormant accounts sit on a few servers. Instead of having all these “dead” accounts waiting why not move all characters with inactivity for X amount of months placed on to a different world. Many of those will have a free transfer, so if they are coming back and have active friends they can always transfer to that world.
I feel telling those of us who’ve been through many merges, and transfers to alleviate these issues in the last year are being disrespected. “Buy a token and move” yeah sure I’ve done that 2 other times. Instead of solving the problem before it occurs, it seems like you’re posting this and when every world is overwhelmed this will be the thread you link saying “oh well you know we warned you”
I was thinking along the lines of something like this.
After 4-6 months of inactivity, accounts could be moved to a single massive server called Tartarus.
This server would allow you to log in, and select a server to move in. But Tartarus itself would not be a playable world. Just one massive limbo for inactive accounts. It should come with one free token when you get moved there.
The technology does not exist to allow uncapped populations on a single server.
So, they either do server shards, where people are separated by game space and can only chat with one another from different shards until they join the same instance, or they do queues and encourage people to move to lower pops.
Nobody will ever be happy until technology allows uncapped populations. This is a problem for all MMOs, not just New World.
As stated in the video under your comment, they are working on a solution for this. We completely understand the frustration. I have sent your suggestion up to the Development team.
