So today I was playing New World. I was just casually running through a field when New World completely froze. My entire PC Froze. It shut down. When I tried to restart the PC, it wouldn’t boot. It was stuck with a red light on DRAM.
I ended up unsteating my RAM and it finally started when I put just one stick into Slot 4.
Now I’m not sure if I’m running XMP or not. I had no issues (Lagging, stuttering, etc) the classic signs of my RAM dying before today. It’s BRAND NEW RAM. It’s a brand new PC. (Delta 2 T-Force 16gigs DDR4.)
Could XMP be the issue? Is it worth trying to turn XMP off and reseating my ‘bad RAM’ to see if it’s actually bad?
Anyone have a clue how this happened? I’m not the first person it’s happened to: The PC Crashing, and then not booting while playing New World. This is the 4th instance I’ve read of it happening. I’m not so sure it’s a coincidence anymore.
Also want to note something: All other 4 instances, the people were using the Asus TUF gaming mobo like I am. That’s why I REALLY don’t think it’s a coincidence anymore.
I would try disabling xmp, and reseating the bad ram to see if it comes back. Either way I would monitor the mobo Temps with something like hwmonitor. It could be getting too hot on the power delivery components with the way New World likes to pull power. Most GPU’s will dump heat into the case directly on to the VRM. I’ve had to tweak my case fans to be more responsive to help get heat out of the case. If mobo Temps seem high you can pull the side panel off and see if it helps.
The theory behind disabling xmp is its essentially a factory predefined overclock profile, overclock increases voltage which increases heat.
Also a long shot, make sure your CPU power cable is fully seated, as well as on the GPU. If your GPU has more than one power connector, if its only a single power cable with 2 connectors, you can try connecting a separate GPU power cable into the 2nd connector if available. Strange things have tripped a DRAM code in the past.
So I don’t even have XMP as an option. Only SB clock spread was enabled.
But my PC wasn’t hot at all, in fact, it was insanely cool. I had just started it and it wasn’t even warm let alone overheating. I disabled the SB clock spread and I’m going to try reseating my ram now and see if it even boots.
I really don’t have $150 to buy brand new RAM.
If anyone could look up ASUS TUF GAMING motherboards and see if there’s an advanced option I should, or should not have enabled for this that’d be great. I’m not a BIOS wiz.
That makes sense as it is now running in single channel mode. What slots were they in originally? 2 and 4 from left to right?
I would check your reported ram capacity. If it is less than it should be, you may have a bad stick. If it is reporting the correct amount, the stick is good and you burnt a slot. You could also try slot 1 and 3 to see if it will post in dual channel mode. This will tell you if your whole A channel is burnt or just the one slot.
No, the 2nd slot (From the left) won’t work at all now. It’s completely broken.
And I am now the 6th person who has had this happen while playing New World.
This isn’t a coincidence. The fail safes that are supposed to be in any game (standard) are not here. It’s bricking people’s GPUs, and now it’s destroying RAM slots somehow. I don’t know how, but this isn’t a coincidence anymore. I’m uninstalling and I’ll be contacting them for a full refund and/or they can buy me a new Motherboard.
I reseated the ram back into slot 2 and it won’t work. The PC will not boot with the RAM in that slot. I put it in the last two slots and it boots.
I have 32 gigs of RAM showing, so the ram is definitely not bad.
(Also ibuypower are morons and they covered up the first ram slot with liquid cooling so I can’t even use that slot if I wanted to. The hoses are in the way.)
True enough. But he said it was a newer system. Is it new enough to be covered under cyberpowers warranty? @dvnt.tears I would look into it, either the hardware was faulty, or as you say, the game caused it. I have not seen any evidence of abnormal ram usage on my system but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.
I’ve also had the same issue and have a ASUS TUF gaming motherboard. Also just because its showing all your memory doesnt mean its all still working properly. All my ram was showing but I done a memtest86 test last night and it showed 172 errors. I’d suggest running a test and if you have any errors pop up get some new RAM. Most good RAM manufactures have life time warranty so a little google could save some cash! let me know how you get on.
I just had this happen to me today. Yesterday I was playing NW fine and then the whole PC froze all of a sudden. Like, completely. I had to manually shut down the PC using the power button because nothing else would work. Then I turned it back on and it worked fine, so I thought nothing of it… maybe a one time thing. TODAY I had the same thing happen as soon as I reached the main menu of the game, but the PC would not turn on at all afterwards. I opened it up and started moving things around and found out that one slot of RAM had died. I have 2 8GB HyperX sticks and both of them are working fine in the one slot of the mobo. I lost the 2nd slot to this game, it just can’t be a coincidence. I’ve also never seen my PC run so hard while playing this game. Looked like an airplane about to take off.
I have a H410M-E Asus motherboard, 16gbs of ram, Asus RTX 2080 Super
