If you have spent any reasonable amount of time playing New World, you will have probably had the unpleasant experience of “Ninja Looters”. Rather than going to the trouble of killing their own mobs, these unsavory characters simply let you/your group do all the hard work, and then simply sneak in and take the spoils for themselves.
Personally, I see this kind of behavior as harassment, and actively report any player who indulges in this kind of activity.
@TrevzorFTW I would just like to reach out to Amazon Games community management to find out what the official Amazon Games stance is on this type of behavior, and whether reporting these players is the right thing to do.
The loot amount/drops dont change based on them looting or not looting.
Amazon isn’t going to waste time on this. They have a game full of bugs, some game breaking.
This is not harassment. That term gets thrown around way too much. Harassment is personal, targeted behavior towards a person or group specifically. Since you’re already fighting the mobs it doesn’t really matter if they are there too.
I understand this is frustrating, especially if you’re struggling with a boss and someone else comes in to get a chest you really wanted without helping. I’m not trying to be harsh here, but the reality is there is no way to make you “whole” because nothing has been taken from you.
It’s a MMORPG, you’re going to have good guys, bad guys, and criminal thieves. It’s the world.
Ethically they’re wrong, unless they’re Kantians of course in which case they believe what they’re doing is okay because it happens to themselves and thus is permissable to happen to others.
That being said, it’s been around for eons. Some people are just gonna be the baddies.
I disagree. If I kill an animal and someone skins it before I am able to exit combat animation, then obviously the spoils of my efforts have been denied me. When this happens repeatedly it amounts to harassment.
This behaviour is toxic and bad for the game, and it is increasing in prevalence.
They can easily add a loot priority to the game and that will solve part of the problem. I have infact faced two players who do this against one faction and they do it all day to troll.
This, however, has nothing to do with looting a chest while some other guys clear the mobs.
Yes, it sucks when someone skins a mob you were fighting, but it’s hardly worth losing sleep over.
they are actually playing the game as intended. Chests are personal gatherables, they are not monster drops. Monsters have specific things they can drop, and only a certain number of players have a chance to get loot from a monster(who contribute enough damage). Chests are there so people can still get something, and reward exploration.
this is an open world game, The other players chest cooldown does not belong to you. many of them learn to pick up chests solo,
This is exactly what I describe in the OP.
Agreed, it does not set me back much on an individual occurrence, but people are doing this repeatedly. So when someone kills 100 strange boars and only gets to skin a few of them, it becomes a significant issue.
If I am out there doing my thing, and someone snipes my goods, yeah, I’m going to be irritated, to say the least. BUT… it’s part of the game. Keep my head on a swivel and watch for ninja looters.
On the other hand, if there’s some dude following me around and taking EVERYTHING, that’s harassments. There are remedies, up to and including reporting them, then dying, going back to town and moving on to something else.
Remember that this game was fully PvP at one time, and ninja looting could very well be part of that. But ya, I’m with Thelen too. You don’t own it til it’s in your bags.
For general kills sure. But when you have to skin a boss on a longer timer and it’s a free for all to skin it? That minute is now 5-10 minutes, then expanded further for each guy who comes and skins the mob you killed.
Even if is not a big deal overall, it seems silly that it has not been fixed with a simple 5-10s exclusive skinning timer for the kill.
5-10s for who? DPS, Healer or Tank? Maybe 5-10s. for party, but still - based on what? DMG taken, DMG healed or DMG done? As a tank i’m allready getting less loot than everyone else in zerg chest rushes for example…
Well, for common mobs, whoever tags it first. For quest mobs it’s even simpler - everyone who tagged it can skin it, first to do so gets the rawhide, but everyone gets the quest item. Even better, remove the quest to skin and make it a drop.
