The META is the META. Why are ninja you nerfing nerfing things like keen speed & burnout perks? It’s not META - yes there are a few builds that use it and it’s a nice change of pace. Amazon - Enough with nerfing fire staff and other perks that arnt OP. If they were OP - they would be META… For legit war, there is 2 spots for fire mages and quite frankly they don’t need you. They grab you because you’re a great player. I main fire and have to often spec into other builds most of the time for anything pvp related to war. I don’t want to play great sword - but you’re forcing me to play that lame ass weapon and ridicules oversized skin. Who actually plays these classes and gives you feedback? Do you even play a fire mage in anything? Its either really good players or dead players… there is no in between with fire staff. So leave it the f… alone.
AGS hates Fire mages because their devs don’t play it.

Having to land shots more than any class, yet for pitiful damage?

Yes, Flamethrower exists.
But it requires 0 skill and you can only harrass bruisers with it.
Saw some guy playing rapier/firestaff in my opr doing insane work. High kill count. Thing with off meta builds is most people will barely have any elemental resistance atm.
However, Pillar of Fire 100% needs either a damage buff or a rework, probably both tbh.
When they decide to “buff” it they give it insanely small buffs such as a speed up to Pillar’s animation. Meanwhile we see Bow, GA, and other weapons getting massive buffs. For some reason AGS has been fairly anti intelligence weapons since the game has released. All of the weapons have seen nothing but nerfs to the point now that VG is nothing but a secondary bruiser support weapon, and IG is simply a secondary utility style weapon for CC.
Firestaff is really only good against non organized groups without a healer or very small scale PVP. For some reason AGS has consistently nerfed it since the game has been out. Because the consistent damage from flamethrower and the decent ability to poke from far you can get a lot of kills or last hits on players who don’t have healers. Once you get organized groups with healers, bruisers, and proper VG/IG and VG/BB support it can’t compete in a war. Firestaff gets very few slots in wars, in a competitive WW/EF war they will at MOST have 2 FS who are typically only in the war because they are extremely good players. What the weapon sorely needs is utility. Add a disease to the burn that lowers healing efficiency. Buff the burn tick damage so it ticks for 500+ damage instead of the current 60. Maybe give it some rend or a stun / knockdown to one of its abilities.
We may just need to come to grips that AGS is okay with the fact that AGS is not good in wars and is only a slightly above average weapon in very small scale fights and duels.
I get you but i mean you obviously would pair the firestaff with a weapon that provides CC, like i said I think PoF could use a rework. The damage of a firestaff is competitive tho, would be careful about just flat buffing it.
As for wars, haven’t been in one in a long time, but I feel they are so basic and cater towards heavy tank/bruiser builds due to the capture the point system in general. Would love to see AGS add more depth to wars.
Perhaps with future updates, like the lightning gauntlet, mage will be back in wars again.
Firestaff damage really isn’t competitive. You only see big numbers because the amount of hits they are doing, not because the damage itself is massive. It is one of the weakest weapons in terms of burst in the game. This is why you see M10 gen runs using hatchets instead of firestaffs. Once they add damage meters this will be much more apparent.
When compared to other weapons it really is not much. Basically every other weapon in the game has more burst when actually up on a target outside of Musket, SnS, VG, and LS.
Does anyone know WTH OP is talking about ? I main every type of mage and they are really but really overpowered its an S Tier character, mages can be support dps, dealer, mobility, fantastic sustain cuz every mage weapon can be played with rapier…
Maybe I dunno, all I know is if you landy heavy attack into fireball into burnt out into flamethrower/rapier attacks thats ALOT of damage especially if you crit. I will agree with you that mage can feel very underwhelming compared to other builds sometimes, I feel ranged attacks are harder to land than bow/musket and this reflects in the meta. The buffs you are asking for are a lil too much tho. Like I said before the nature of wars is why melee in general are preffered. I see IG/VG/BB medium builds used still when I tune into streams.
I main every mage tbh … I just change 1 weapon and 2 gear pieces I dont feel if FS is weak… does not matter if I play on fire pillar or FT… but those 2 skills determine your play style close/range … What I dont see ? Why fire staff is weak in your opinion ?
So if you land every ability you have and a heavy attack on someone you will do a lot of damage? Imagine saying the same about Bow, Hatchet etc. If any of those weapons land a heavy and a single ability they are almost killing people. How is asking for disease and rend too much, almost every other weapon has one of these things.
What kills people in this game is well timed burst and CC. Firestaff is not great at either, it just has decent sustained damage. It used to have bigger more bursty damage but people cried to get it nerfed until it could no longer kill people in any way that doesn’t take 10+ seconds.
500+ dmg Ticks that can br stacked like 5 or 6 Times? Dont know what Was in the crackpipe you took before writing this but ok i am down for it!

Sad truth is, Flamethrower is cheesy and requires no aim.
While ranged attacks are too weak despite one having to land shots more often consistently to come halfway near to damage of e.g. Musket, Bow, Blunderbuss.
Yes, Firestaff has aoe abilities. But those provide nothing in small scale PVP compared to other weapons’ CC, damage or utility.
Also all abilities only burn a single target despite hitting several.
