Games made for the “majority” are almost always bland and shitty and I don’t tend to enjoy them. Mass market appeal = dumbing down and making things easy to get the most player dollars.
That doesn’t make a good game. It just makes somebody more money.
I personally dont play games for it to be easy.
I like choices and consequences in games, and I didn’t mind the orb system or paying for orbs.
I enjoyed crafting my own orbs and running dungeons with other people who I was giving the gift of content, by the results of my orb crafting labors.
It gave me something to bring to the market and something to grind specific items for, and that IS content.
Finding players organically in chat, and trying to make a balanced group out of members of my community is also content. Those that are clamoring for a group finder feature are just going to take that player interaction and throw it out the window because it “was hard”.
It wasn’t actually that hard, it just required effort certain people were unwilling to put into the game.
Please stop being low effort gamers and then asking for things to be easier or cheaper.
Yeah I completely disagree with this. Orbs made many players leave the game. They will be the reason for many to not come back. That’s literally the first thing many players ask before considering coming back. Sorry bud it’s truly a matter of wanting to play the game without spamming chat or compromising.
Players are not having fun with orbs.
Great point doing things for the majority of the player base seems silly. Continue to only appease the current players. No reason to consider any changes.
Side note 30k players. So yeah how long can they support the game service with no income stream or population to buy expansion.
Thanks again for coming into forums telling everyone you think everything is great. They know that cause you’re not going anywhere regardless. It’s a good time to realize that listening to people who will play Either way verse listening to people who might come back seems counter productive.
Derv it started with an expertise system that greatly benefited those who ran expeditions. Facts are many people left do to that process. So maybe removing silly walls and expressing a change in direction could help bring some. How many people are coming back with your ideas!? I mean I’m bringing up a problem that affected several people maybe 3 months ago. Is that just something that you think doesn’t matter!? Guess I’m just lost in translation
I have also been telling them this stuff since day one. Im no systems designer but I have played MMOs since EQ1 and have been playing games since pong and Oregon trail. I know what works and what doesn’t.
They don’t change over night but they could change a lot faster if they stopped wasting time on baby changes. Orbs were changed almost every month. Reduced cost, reduced cost, put on faction vendor, lowered cooldown on faction vendor. How much time wasted on that instead of just nipping it month one?
Its like AGS has this thing of trying to see what the player will put up with and slowly changing it until they will put up with it. Problem is you lose 10’s of thousands of players in the process. Stop messing around. We know what we want and that is to play the game and have fun doing so. We don’t want to compromise. We don’t want to get just enough that we can deal with it. We want real changes that aren’t 6 months of slowly changing something. Just change it. You would have saved probably 100,000 players by changing this month one instead of incrementally lowering the cost.
The changes over the last couple patches are fantastic. It shouldn’t have taken 6 months and tons of player loss to get there though.
Everything in the game takes effort. There is not enough time in the day for the average player to have enough effort to do all they want to do. Farming, crafting, faction points, expertise, dungeon, wars, invasions, gold making. Not everyone can play 10 hours a day.
Dungeons being locked behind orbs is one of the stupidest design decisions I have seen in an MMO. They literally keep people from playing the game. Expertise and taxes are probably #2 and #3.
If you can grind them without cost, you can expect them to nerf the crap out of the drops.
We keep explaining this to you “orb haters” and you don’t ever seem to get it.
I don’t want to have to run the dungeon hundreds of times to target farm an item because you guys are too lazy to buy a cheap orb from the faction vendor.
This is exactly how it works in those “other” mmos where you can just run them over and over. The drops are rare as unicorn crap and you get to run it many many times to ever see one.
The orbs are as cheap as they’ve ever been and you’re still here complaining.
How about instead of that, you spend the same amount of time running 3 faction missions in ebonscale every day and you’ll be able to purchase a mutator or tempest orb and other things, every single day. I have piles of them now, for doing something I was already doing.
Removing the system that limits the number of tries per day will HARM everyone.
Not going to work in a day and age the average gamer only has 2 to 3 hours of playtime a day. Not going to work in a day and age, where the requirements to actually LIVE is rapidly rising. Maybe this type of attitude back a decade or so ago was ok.
Anyways most people play games to have fun, and maybe compete in PvP. Not to work a full time job for free. Doing monotonous labor for thousands of hours. In the hopes to have fun afterwards. However if you are going to design a MMO around that type of player. Then I’m sorry it’s going to be a very niche MMO. Currently like New World is. Where AGS can’t really get people to try the game for free.
That’s ok though, just don’t expect gamers that actually have lives. That can’t just grind for 8+ hours a day. Which is the majority of gamers these days.(Which is why mobile games are huge hits now. Because gamers can play those at the office on slow days.) To think about playing your game. Enjoy being the elitist of nothing.
How many tears i saw in this post, how u can expect a free pass to dungeons??? i played a lot of MMO and dungeos have always a key/orb needed or they have a limit per day/week.
You want something u need to do an effort to purchase. STOP giving for free all this mechanincs to this glass people who only knows to cry when something becomes a little bit hard.
At the star of NW u needed someone with 200 stonecutting for only 2 orbs per week, so now u can buy 1 every 24h and still crafting 2 every 3 days so STOP CRYING. thank you
I say it as someone playing heavily while having a job (like 3h per day or smthg). So i can do at least 1 expedition run per day and even sole mutation with sharing keys.
With faction tokens you can basically have one run for free per day. Many other players runs them too so the place are free once again. Heck as a tank i even managed to get paid.
Also mutation beeing in a longer cooldown, but not a harsh one like 7 days. Makes it so you don’t want to ruin it, while also beeing to actually play the game (while in previous patches i literally played once or twice a week for those mutas)
People have stop crying. Hence why your game simply have worst player count then P2W glorified Mobile MMOs. Like I said, enjoy playing a low populated niche MMO. Which most gamers won’t even touch for free. Lol, you forget people like yourself only stands to lose. Should servers hit criticality.
Those of us who just make suggestions on how to make your game healthy. Mostly don’t even play the game in it’s current sad state. Hell most more than likely will never touch anything AGS makes in the future. That bait and switch AGS did through Steam. Has done unrepairable damage to their reputation, in the gaming sphere. RIP
I hate the orb system, but derv here have a solid point. We all know AGS obliterates stuff when nerfing ( 1 wyrdwood per wolf, like, wtf?), so we need to worry what they’ll nerf when removing orbs.
I think orbs should be used to keep the current loot and non-orbs runs should have a decrease in gold drops. I think itens/expertise drops shouldn’t change regardless of the orbs used.
But now that I think about it, it just feels overly complicated and a mess. Maybe a better approach would be using the same system as the faction missions. No orbs and you get to do 3 dungeons with the current drops per day, and after that the bosses only drops 28 ~ 50 gold per kill.
This is a bad idea, thanks to the orbs stonecutting is valuable. Also thanks to the orbs people are flaging for pvp and doing pvp quests to buy orbs, without orbs a loot of nice game content gonna be killed, what for? Because someone is lazy to play the game?
I think with the most recent update the orb system has reached a nice balance. I don’t do 20 dungeons a day, i do maybe a max of 7-8 on really grindy days but 1-2 on normal days and the last week or so i haven’t had to even be concerned with “do i have enough gold” or “do i have enough orbs” because my server runs all free/cheap mutation orbs and you can get quite a few from various means.
