Just in context so it doesn’t look like this is the opinion of a light armored player who is upset, I’ve been playing since the beginning of the game as a tank.
Rooting is a great form of control, especially against high mobility targets, so I benefit directly from it. So why do I think this is unhealthy for the game? For the simple fact that it doesn’t have a counterplay, we don’t have efficient mechanisms that allow us to resist or escape rooting, nor a way to deal when you take several roots in sequence.
Proof that this mechanic is strong is how much it is used in wars. The meta is basically dominated by IC, GA and VG 3 weapons that have root.
I agree that the melee classes should have efficient ways to reach the ranged classes, but that are through mechanics that can have counterplay, such as charge, slow, speed buff or even some skill that pulls the enemy (my dream as a tank).
We reached the “absurdity” of several players using IG with GA just because they have a very strong CC so they can apply their skills.
So I’m in favor of more ways a melee can reach a ranged class, but ways that have counterplay and no more roots.
