Not joining a faction; What are the disadvantages?

Somebody above said you can’t do PvP if you don’t join a faction.
I was responding to him/her/whoever.

But if I can get the same quality gear and battles as faction players, then I should probably not worry so much.

I highly recommend joining a faction even if you never do faction events. Pretty sure it’s required to progress the story anyway. You are handicapping your access to what the game has to offer you by not joining a faction.

It would like being a one legged man in a butt-kicking contest.

You can’t. You absolutely have to join a faction. There is no way around it. I honestly don’t get why you wouldn’t want to though?

Oh! If I am not in a faction, can I roam though a contested area?

It really limits, you, though. You can’t advance the main quest. You can’t get faction gear. You can grind out levels slowly, and gather and craft, that’s true, but you’re setting aside a large part of the game by avoiding a faction.

Ok, honestly, just answer this question, why don’t you want to join a faction?

Ok so you do not have to do any specific faction quests after the first one you do to advance the storyline. than thats it. literally pick your favourite colour and move on and dont worry about faction ever again. Just dont hit U in town otherwise you will flag yourself for pvp. that’s it, move on and enjoy the game. you dont have to join a company. you can be a lone wolf. but you will still be purple yellow or green respectively.

exactly. On top of that there are a ton of PvE quests and rewards from factions. As a person who NEVER PvPs, I just can’t understand why you wouldn’t join a faction, there is not downside to joining a faction and a TON of downsides to not joining one…

Well, at first glance at the faction descriptions, they all sound like they’re saying that they are ‘holier than thou’.

And I am probably reading too much into it.
Perhaps you guys are right and I should just go with the flow.

Definitely reading too much into it.

The factions are mostly superficial. Pick the aesthetic you like most and if you never want to engage in PvP that’s perfectly fine. It’s completely optional and won’t bar you from any PvE content.

Enjoy!

Each thinks they are better than the others and dislikes the others? Yes, that’s true, but that’s normal for factions. Really, you don’t have to give it much thought … I don’t think too many players do.

Any of you know which faction tends to get the fewest people joining it?
I’m thinking if I have to, I’ll join the under-dogs.

Just kick around the main town and see which faction has the smallest number in ur general area for me is covenant. but hey who kows each server is different

It really does vary by server, unfortunately. From the betas and also from a couple of different servers on launch it’s been all over the place. In beta most servers disfavored covenant, but in launch I am seeing a lot of covenant players, perhaps because players expected it to be the underdog faction. One of the servers I am on has syndicate as the underdogs, which is odd since they were the most popular faction overall (I think) in the CB.

there is also end game faction pve events so you have to join a one to do them

One advantage to not joining a faction is you won’t get company invites from random people. There really isn’t a story. Who cares if I can’t close never ending portals? Faction quests aren’t the only way to level up and it’s not the best gear. Totally fine buying everything else I need from others. I hate the non-stop war aspect of the game between the factions and getting to 60 without joining one is my way to protest.

I just want to explore the world on my own in peace. I play with all channels muted. It’s pretty sweet!

Yes but by skipping out on factions you are eliminating a huge chunk of the content in the game(the ability to join a company, faction quests and gear, town bonuses and discounts, invasions, wars, main quest line) for very little in return.

Sure the faction system is arbitrary and not perfect, but you are massively gimping the game for dubious reasons. Like it or not the game was clearly designed with factions being an important part of the new World experience.

I joined the green team because I like trees. Sometimes I feel like I went full Sinema, picking a random side and ultimately doing whatever gives me the most loot. :disappointed:
