[Notice] Temporarily Disabling Trading Post and Player to Player Trading - December 7th, 2022

Greeting Adventurers,

Today our internal data alarms detected a Trading Post exploit, involving manipulating specific contracts in an error state. We have a fix for this issue in testing. Although only a small number of players attempted this, out of an abundance of caution and to avoid any potential economy impact, we are temporarily disabling the Trading Post and player to player trading and will re-enable when the testing is complete and we can deploy the change.

As a reminder, any player taking advantage of exploits will be penalized for violating our Code of Conduct.

We have confirmed exploitation of this bug primarily occurred on Sutekh. A fix was included in the last release, and in an effort to get the worlds that did not participate up and running as soon as possible, we have re-enabled the Trading Post and player to player in all worlds except Sutekh. We will provide an update when the Trading Post and player to player trading is re-enabled on Sutekh.

Hello all,

We have re-enabled the Trading Post and player to player trading on Sutekh. All trading on all worlds is now available.

Upon discovering a bug related to trading post contracts which could be exploited for item gain, we suspended all trading as a precautionary measure. We did this so we could safely assess how many players might have used this to their advantage and to prevent them from trading away any items gained by exploitation. The bug was used by a small number of players, specifically targeted at Thick Hide. The nature of the bug is that items gained had to be related to the specific contract which also needed to be in a specific error state, so it was very rare to occur.

We have corrected the bug that allowed this, banned or suspended the players who exploited the bug via trading, and recovered the items as that was the contract with an error. We also removed gold from players that profited from the duplicated items. Players suspended will remain so until we can fully review each of them and decide what actions need to be taken up to and including full bans. This may result in suspension extensions depending on the extent of the investigation needed per player.

We apologize for the inconvenience of trading being unavailable during this period. We thought it important to prevent any economy impact, particularly on Fresh Start servers. For most servers this was unnecessary as they didn’t experience the problem, but we couldn’t be sure of that at the time. Thank you for your patience as we worked as quickly as possible to resolve the issue.

For those on Sutekh, if you encounter the ‘Trading Post Disabled’ message, returning to the main menu and waiting at least three minutes for your session to fully end before you log back in, should fix it.
