NW Armchair Dev - A Possible Solution to Shell Companies

Shell companies in New World have been a very hot topic for a while now and I believe I have a plan to at least reduce the amount of them without putting a hard limit on how many daily wars players can do.

As of right now, there are essentially 0 downsides for large companies to make shell companies and own more than one territory without the chance of getting double declared on. Ultimately this is very unhealthy for any server especially in lower population.

My solution is Company Levels.

Companies can gain levels by members doing content in a group of at least 3 players from the company. These levels give passive bonuses to members when in faction controlled zones. Bonuses are doubled when your specific company owns that territory.

With this system, there are more incentives to play with company members, more passive benefits for pve focused companies that aren’t motivated by war, and still some additional bonuses on top of that for the companies who do partake in the more hardcore territory control aspect of the game.

The reason this would reduce shell companies is because there aren’t a lot of people if any who would be willing to split off from their large high level company and lose all the benefits that come with it.

Its not enough the bonuses would have to outweigh the obscene amount of gold they get from territories. If they are that good the company will become even more toxic and powerful and will just further alienate the rest of the server. The issue isnt they need to play together in groups more the issue is we need to stop them owning the entire map getting all the gold and killing all competition. Only way to do that is War weariness (only fight one war a day) Company swap cooldown and war roster only from same company ( 3 day cd on swapping companies) or get rid of taxes from territories.

There are plenty of solutions, there just are none that wont have the forums catching on fire.

They could add cooldown to company swap, creation.

They could lock company rosters once war is declared.

They could add war fatigue.

They could change how influence pushes are calculated to make shelling not work. (they already partially did this)

Thing is, people that are warring don’t want any of that. They want to shell and dec snipe, sell declares, double/triple dec, and all of that tomfoolery.

And i’m really on the fence and have two minds about the whole thing. I can get why people don’t want to have to face the same 50 people in every war. And i can also see why the holders of EF wouldn’t want to NOT slot those 50 people.

But it’s generally a lot more complicated than that, and involves a lot of 5 man contributions from multiple companies, and money.

In that way, it’s very EVE online like, and i think that this is emergent gameplay and although it may not have been intended, it turned into something very competitive on top of the war itself.

I like the goal but I don’t think we need a whole new system like that. All you need to do is remove the ability for companies to declare if the don’t have at least 60 members. They must have that number for 1 week prior to taking a territory and if they drop below that while holding a territory they get a massive debuff in war something like -50% damage and armor.
