I was going to make a thread bitching about iframe but I see one already exists. I agree that they should be removed. The one dude brings up an interesting point about being careful what you wish for, but all it takes is one trip to OPR to see how ridiculous the system is. They should just rename it “Invulnerable Bunny Farm”. Hop, hop, hop, immune. Hop, hop, hop, chug.
They could save everyone the trouble of actually playing the game by having a pop up box appear when you zone into IBF asking “Do you know how to exploit iframes?” The team with the most yes answers will be awarded the victory.
In the tale of the Boy Who Cried Wolf the point is not that boy was right that one time. The story intends for us to realize that repeating the same warnings over and over will lead to people simply not listening.
Using that tale was to show that many, many people use doom-saying as a means to bring attention to problems. Continuing to do so when it hasn’t happened begins to block people’s receptiveness.
Issues like this are rather large in the gaming community. Meaning that many players have heard these warning too many times and not seen the apocalypse.
Even with some of these predictions being accurate it doesn’t make the cliche any more believable.
Are your assessments in particular accurate about iframes and population size?
That wasn’t my point.
The point was that if someone is trying to be heard it would help to use different methods.
Wait, hold on, maybe @Kalunestra should elaborate because I have seen people use a hop dodge once and just walk through any CC after. I thought it was odd. Could it be the iframe last way past the dodge animation?
“Get over it” is what 90% of the original playerbase has done. That’s great advice for a game to be successful!
They need to fix it, or the game has no future. The iframes in this game are particularly egregious because aside from abilities, you have “auto attacks” (left click) going straight through the opponents player model clear as day due to iframes. Like I said - it looks, feels, and plays terribly and coupled with how bad the combat is from a netcode perspective, this game has the worst combat currently in MMO history.
Maybe you’re right, about the last part, but this isn’t typical doomsaying - in this example, you have a game that has had the fastest active player decline in MMO history. Statistically. So it’s always worth calling that out - what has caused this exactly?
Look at the accumulative data on these forums, reddit, anecdotal from players in game and players I personally know. The number one complaint is usually combat oriented in some way. Not graphical fidelity, environment, systems, design, etc - those have problems, but are dwarfed in comparison to the amount of people fed up with the terrible combat implementation. Even a lot of the balance issues can be attributed largely to how unresponsive the game’s combat is. Iframes are a major part of the general feeling of attacks simply not landing when they should because dodge spam messes with the netcode and the player (and his/her combatant) gets desynced from the server. So it’s a 2 for 1 problem. Iframes should not exist in PvP games in my opinion, you should actually have to dodge the attack. But barring that, they need to find a better implementation because currently, the combat rates extremely low among the playerbase.
No, everything would not hit. Dodges would be adjusted to have more movement, i.e. the light armor roll could roll further/faster to make up for no iframe.
To go with this, if you’re worried about burst, damage across the board could be adjusted/lowered to account for the possibility of more attacks connecting.
I personaly prefer if iframes got replaced with 50% mitigation bonus on dodges for a second or what not in replacement of iframe for it, if you dodge and skill misses great if u dodge asnd it still hit you hit box you takes half dmg to simulate glancing blow i think that be a good change.
Not if you have actual dodge/evasion mechanics. This is the main point. The game doesn’t need “faster” combat, the netcode already can’t keep up with the current pace. Watch a War where people are fighting for a point.
Iframes have made the game faster, sure, but anyone who has played OPR or War knows this isn’t a good thing because the technology/programming at AGS can’t handle it.
I have been in war and for the most part it is fine till final point and blaming the company’s shitty servers for reasons to change the game doesn’t really make sense.
I’m in a company that has held their territory since launch, and have participated in over 50 wars. They are not “fine”, they are as far from “fine” as I have ever seen in a game that has large scale PvP. The netcode is trash and the servers cannot handle the load.
This is fairly well documented in 100’s of videos on YouTube and various social media. This isn’t news to anyone and I’m not sure why you’re attempting to defend it.
At the end of the day if the servers and coding can’t handle the mechanics then changes have to be made, again this isn’t news to anyone in the gaming industry, this is just troubleshooting 101. If they do nothing the game will continue to die, as it has been at a record breaking pace.
How quickly people like to forget the game has lost 90% of its active playerbase since launch quicker than any game in MMO history. There are reasons for that, combat being the main one.
The most effective way to win a point is to do what is called “spiking” or “pulsing” where you send everyone in to the center of a point to unload AoEs and cool downs, then back out after moving the progress bar about 15-25%, to do it again in 15-20 seconds. This is where you really notice the bad code and server overload and I honestly don’t think there’s a way to fix it. People warp around everywhere because of the interaction with abilities like Ice Shower and dodge spam.
Dodge spam - Easy to test is just go to a target dummy in a fort, swing and hit it, dodge straight backwards and charge a heavy. You will 20% of the time (sometimes more, sometimes less) desync from the server and ghost your attack, and then the server will reposition your character to where it thinks it should be, usually back to the original dodge point. This is even without anything going on that would typically cause lag. Now imagine on a point with 50 people all dodge spamming. It’s simply complete trash gameplay.
Spell/ability desync - goes without saying how bad certain abilities bug out player movement and cause deysnc. Grav Well, Fleche, Ice Shower, Feral, etc.
Iframes. With dodge spam, comes iframes, and with how bad War lag is during spiking, good luck landing an attack.
Combine these things together and you have literally the worst, most unresponsive combat in an MMO.
To address your edit:
It’s not an attention problem. Other games have done it. It’s a fundamental game problem with how bad the core mechanics and fundamental combat systems are, mostly as a result of bad netcode. People realize there is no fix likely to happen because of how complex the issue is.
