Oh yeah, by the way this unrecoverable error is still unrecoverable. Can we get anything about "Unexpected steam_appid.txt file found"

TLDR: Loop error after update leads to broken man sweatily ranting on forum

I have seen this problem scattered across the forum within the last 48hrs so it is clearly a widespread experienced issue that doesn’t seem to be looked into with enough regard.

As of yesterday the 8th of Oct, following updates to Steam and/or New World an error would show upon launching new world stating “Launch Error, The requested operation requires elevation”. This had been identified previously for games prior to new world as the game requiring admin privelages to run the game.

So enable run as admin, right? With this enabled, each time you launch the game a txt file will be created in the New World installation folder named “steam_appid.txt”. This will trigger it’s own error stating “Unrecoverable Error, Unexpected steam_appid.txt file found”.

Delete this file and run again, it appears again.
Put admin off and then delete, run to elevation required error.
Put admin on and then delete, it appears again.
This is an endless loop of errors.

As for the other solutions that have been spread across the forum/youtube, though they may work for some, there is still no progress for others.

  • Ran steam game file verification
  • Ran anticheat.exe reinstall/repair
  • Ran fresh install of steam
  • Ran fresh install of New World
  • Closed any unecessary background applications (razer synapse, logi Ghub, nvidia shadowplay)
  • Replaced rolled back steamclient64.dll

I have tried every single thing I can get my hands on, I have scoured the forums for solutions and viewed every single relevant thread.
Please spare us the pain of having to endure another zugg zugg quick template response and give us acknowledgement of this issue that’s clearly occuring with multiple cases.

Hi, I see that you posted this problem 16 days ago, I have the same problem, I tried to fix it, using all the tips available, and nothing is done. my situation is not evolving. and I also can’t find any tips, to fix the problem. and the first one who had this problem goes back to 26 days ago, and no solution has been given

Same Issue …

Can you guys post the contents of your app id file?

Mine states: 1063730

I found the issue / fix on youtube of all places…

This is caused when the Launcher is run as admin (either through compatibility mode or by right clicking and selecting run as administrator).

To resolve the problem: remove the compatibility option (if it exists) and delete the file: Steam_AppId.txt Then Re-launch.

You may run the Actual New World Exe App as an administrator… just not the launcher.
