One character unable to login

My main character is not able to get into the game and play. I get to the Play button and then get endless splash screens. I have to end the new world process to even get out, it never stops.

I then created a new character on a different world and that one runs fine, so it’s not an application problem it’s a character problem.

I do apologize about the unexpected experience you had within your play-through.

First off try this workaround:

Quit New World
Force stop steam
Then run steam as administrator
Open New World back again

How to run an app as administrator:

  1. Open Start.
  2. Search for the app that you want to run elevated.
  3. Right-click the top result, and select Open file location. …
  4. Right-click the app shortcut and select Properties.
  5. Click on the Shortcut tab.
  6. Click the Advanced button.
  7. Check the Run as administrator option.
  8. Click the OK button.
  9. Click the Apply button.
  10. Click the OK button.

Open up Steam again and try to run New World

I did that already, and that wouldn’t fix a single character problem FYI.

Try this known workaround:

  1. Load Steam.
  2. From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.
  3. Select the Local files tab and click the Verify integrity of game files… …
  4. Steam will verify the game’s files - this process may take several minutes.

Some folks are confirming these steps work fine.

I tried that as well and it didn’t help. I also reinstalled the anti cheat service and I also cleared the appdata folder as pointed out in other topics.

None work. One character can log in just fine and another cannot. My character was also recently merged.

So, is this forum our only method of support? To create a post that gets buried within a day and lost among everything else. Haven’t been able to play and my guess is I’ll not be playing anytime soon without support.

Region: US-East
