One day per week forced flagging

No it was advertised as PVP Optional.

During alpha it WAS a PVP game but they changed that due to metrics showing that would lead to a sure fail. Making it pvp optional is what lead to such a high turnout at launch.

As a PvP player, this is a terrible idea. You want more players to quit? Everyone needs to stop forcing their playstyle on others.

Eh, I don’t think they caved to PvErs. I think they saw how the pre-alpha went and came to the realization that a sandbox open PVP would be much less profitable than alternatives.

You heard it was a open world pvp game. Obviously you heard wrong and had you actually done your own research, you would’ve known that changes were made and the game was being advertised as opt in PvP. The fact that you didn’t know that is noones fault but your own. There’s a reason ā€˜literally every game on the market’ is geared towards PvE players and Amazon, being a business, goes where the money is.

Did I not say that in literally the next sentence?

But yeah, ā€œPvP optionalā€ helped generate more mass interest, but it’s extremely clear that the game was designed to be a PvP game, hence why so many of the mechanics make no sense if it’s played as a PvE game.

Well, the OP has a point – but try it in reverse and see how well it goes: One day per week, forced PvE. The PvPers would hate not being able to kill anyone all day long.

Forcing anyone into a gameplay they don’t normally play (or want to play) is a recipe for disaster.

Changing the game like you suggest makes it no longer pvp optional which is called bait n switch and could be a legal problem for the company.

There was no failure in the advertising just a failure on your part to check and see what the game is about instead of making assumptions especially since you self admittedly did not follow the progress of the game before it went live.

Again everyone that somewhat followed this game before live KNOWS it started out as a totally pvp game but that changed as they realized it would make a small and niche.

Might want to stop trying to reinvent the history of what happened just to suit your needs and wants.

Well yeah, they caved to profitability instead of following their vision, i.e. they decided to cater to PvE players.

1 day per week forced flag = 1 day a week with 97%+ of the player base not logged in. Point blank, simple as that.

Make an always-flagged PVP server & be done with it. You only need one per region & it will be pretty empty, yet at least no one will be able to ask for permaflags anymore, at any capacity - they will have it then, no matter how empty it is.

Keep all the other servers as they are. Flag when you want, not when you do not want. The vast majority are not flagged for a reason. Give the ā€œforced PVPā€ people 1 server per region & be done with it. Then you can see, clear as day, the indication of what people like.

For the record, you already can see plain as day what the people like by seeing 1 flagged player for every 100 unflagged you pass in the world.

I would just take that day off. One day of nothing but gank-squads outside every city. No thanks.

I haven’t reinvented anything, and they still to this day promote NW as a PvP game:

ā€œLet’s start by reiterating our high level vision. We want to create a game where PvE and PvP not only co-exist but support each other. We also want ā€œwars not ganksā€ā€” meaning we want to support meaningful PvP in War and the open world conflict between the three Factions.ā€

I mean, just look at the lynch-pin of the whole endgame, territory control, which is all explicitly done through PvP. Yeah, partaking in all this is ā€œoptionalā€, but it’s still the centerpiece of the whole design even today, hence why PvEers claim that there’s no endgame all the time. Importantly, the developers’ vision is explicitly saying that PvE and PvP should support each other, which isn’t the case when people have no reason at all to do whichever one they don’t feel like doing.

The idea proposed here removes the pve in the equation for one day which isn’t what was advertised. Spin it how you want you are wrong and this is a no go.

I say rather than limit people with this proposal make one pvp only server in each region and call it a day. Make it so on these pvp server everyone is always flagged for pvp when they step outside towns. Gives everyone what they want this way.

Where on earth did you get the idea that I’m in favor of the OP’s idea? I think it’s a stupid idea and haven’t said a word about it. I’ve only responded to express that I share the sentiment that open world PvP needs more support.

ok then guess also a day a week when PVP is forbidden from the whole game? I mean that’s fair, no?

Yes. I’ve already said yes in many people that suggested this in the thread which you didn’t even bother to read before posting.

Fyi: most people don’t even accept that. They just want pvp of the table completely

Hmm, what about strip pvp completely from the game, this would solve the hideous nerf waves on NW.

I have no issues with PvP for those who want it.
I do have an issue with those wanting to make PvP mandatory, like this thread.

They just need something to spark interest in open world pvp as it stands there is just zero reason to pvp in open world . If there ever was a reason to I’d flag but if I leave the city it’s just to get my mats and honestly I don’t want to even be bothered fighting adds just want to get it done and be done in open world .
