Open World PvP is the best type of PvP the game has to offer, but unfortunately it does not get any attention from the devs and it’s pretty much dead in the water at the moment.
I really hope we can get some major updates here so that PvP’ing is not limited to OPR and Arenas anymore.
yeah, I mean, why would you push your best USP of all when you can create lesser PvE experiences than every other MMO out there? Smart moves all the way…
The changes they made to fort buffs have created a great deal more open world PVP than I remember having at any time besides the first few weeks of the game. People actually want those buffs, so its not uncommon for fights to break out when someone is trying to cap. And in particular before key forts (like FL) lock for invasion or war, there have often pretty big brawls with easily more than 20 people, sometimes from all 3 factions.
The PVP tracks are also a small incentive for people to get out into open world for PVP experience.
Looked up the PvP Tracks System and at first glance it looks good. Are the rewards that bad, or why isn’t that a big thing and something to go for in open world? Guess I’m missing something, would be nice to know what.
Its dead if u talk about randoms zergs fights in OW, however from time to time u have info in fraction chat about mass, and fractions are fighting for forts its not rare tbh. But if u want to fight 1v1, 1v2 in OW if u will flag and go for stockpiles for sure u will find someone who will want fight with u. There is no ganking cuz due to no full loot system nobody do it
The rewards are quite good, especially once you get to bronze and unlock named drops. For instance, this whole light armor set with resil/refresh/shirking heals and con: Enchanting Tights - Item - New World Database
And like any other named items, you can roll them in your rewards as 590+ and upgrade with umbral and they’ll turn legendary at 600.
Also often decent hits of gold (800-1100 for me in silver rn) show up in the rewards. It isn’t a ton but hey it’s free money.
You get a decent hit of PVP xp just from flipping a fort, so people will jump around the map doing that. And if they piss off some other company in the process, another group will come out to contest the fort run. It’s not at all uncommon on our server that is essentially mid population at this point.
World pvp is more dead than it had ever been in new world. That’s not an exaggeration it’s just truth.
Only time you will see world pvp is when some pushes influence. And it’s not real pvp. Its just ppl running away from u so they dont die and lose their quests.
All of that sounds great. People still don’t flag despite that rewards? How is it that your view of the game differs so much from someone like @Jiggyspice
I’m on orofena, and there’s no lack of flagged players for sure. A great deal of my common farming areas are contested, like i spent all weekend battling down at pit lord.
Mileage may vary, but there’s definitely more world PVP now than at any point i remember other than launch. Fort caps are another heavily contested fight between locks.
It’s sporadic and incidental, I hardly see anyone running around flagged for PvP; too many timid ego-warriors
To be honest, OPR is the only really active part of the game and even that is getting old fast. If this new area isn’t majority PvP, and there aren’t some serious changes to territory war, the games medium term outlook is really grim.
I am unsure, because from what I’ve seen most servers seem to have healthy (if not overburdened) server populations. Just last night we had a huge fight over FL fort before it locked. It happens nearly every time down there.
Admittedly some of the other forts are barely ever contested, but fighting doesn’t need to be happening all over the map at once.
Thanks for all the insights. That sounds good enough to come back for a while. Is there any word on fresh start servers? After all that shit with exploits and such, I guess the economy is quite broken, right?
I find at this point that there are some people/companies that just have too much money to do anything more with, and things have been around long enough that other people are able to catch up. In terms of money as strength in war, yes you can count on companies that own cash cow territories to have bis gear, but they’re not the only ones anymore and it’s not impossible to compete with them.
If you mean more in terms of being able to refine/craft/buy and sell things to turn a profit, that’s certainly still viable too in a number of different ways. I wouldn’t say the economy is broken at all. But I’m sure it depends on your server.
If you mean farming gear to sell, maybe that’s a little bit broken. I only consider selling a piece if it’s at least purple, has appropriate stats for the item, is a desirable weight class for the type of build that would want it, and has 2 reasonably desirable perks. Anything else is salvage or company donation to fresh 60s maybe.
On that note there are lots of fresh 60s and people still leveling up which adds it’s own sort of vibrancy to the game right now. I’m really enjoying it.
