Ok this is far fetched but hear me out.
When you queue OPR it is much like group finder. The entire point of this is to make the match as “balanced” as possible.
So you have 25 members on a team. 50 players total. When you queue, There are 5 “roles” you can choose. Heavy (tank, bruisers, guys who survive real well in heavy armor), DPS (we will say medium/light gear dex/mage types), Ranged (musket and bow) and Healer (in med or light).
When you queue as solo queue you get merged with others. Each team has 1 heavy, 2 dps, 1 ranged (or 3 dps) and 1 healer. If you are in a 2-4 man group, you get merged with whatever your team is missing. For the 2-4 range and 5 man you still need to have all the requirements met. 1 heavy, 3 dps (or 2 dps 1 ranged) and a healer.
You can check off different boxes (solo queue you meet up with other solo’s and groups that need your roll filled). If there are multiple 2-4 man groups you can opt in to either get one additional person, or you can opt in to the solo queue (so your group may get split). The 5 man will be able to queue normally with everyone else OR you can do a 5v5 group style. Where it is a match of premades. Obviously this is more of a cross server style.
What this does is garauntee that both teams have 5 guys in heavy, max of 5 ranged, and 5 healers. This will also limit the weapons. There can be no more than 5 bows or muskets per team, there can be no more than 5 life staffs per team. There can be no more than 5 heavy guys surviing per team.
Another thought that I had for this was a small group buff, where when you are within a certain range of your group you get the buff. This may help team player more. Make everyone want to be close to their group, be in the same area, focusing on the same objectives.
The largest issue I am having is figuring out what to do with the pve. I like the PvE aspect of it, and sometimes thats all I do. I still want there to be the option for PvE. So maybe you can queue as a PvE, one per team in place of a DPS. Since the PvE guy will be off on his own, the rest of the team gets additional stats from that group range buff to make up for it. Unless they are near the PvE guy, then it goes back as if all 5 were close to each other.
That is just a thought on how to balance OPR. Feel free to object, discriminate, call me stupid, or be more productive and add to it, build off it, hopefully get some recognition for it.
