I was wondering if the downtime was related to the duplication exploit, or something else. Also, I’m pretty sure it had an effect on steel as well, because everytime I made steel, it gave me an extra (Literal double) amount of steel that I made, and I’m not sure if this is normal (new to the game), or should I throw half of them away?
Lol not that’s not an exploit, when you refine materials you have a chance of doubling, and steel it’s pretty high because of the obsidian flux.
that’s normal
Ohh got it, sorry I’m new so I wasn’t sure. Just seemed like it was too good to be true. Thanks for responding!
You know what, good on you for saying something.

As it’s been said, when you refine something, there is a chance for a duplicate to be made.
There are refining sets, that increases the odds of duplicating something. Smelters set is a bit pricey for newer players, but other refining sets (wood working, weaving, tanners, stone cutting) have cheaper pieces, that I would reccomend you to get as soon as you can.
Capturing the first light fort, also gives you an extra 10% chance to refine duplicates. If your faction controls it, you get the bonus.
Lets not call them duplicates. Lets call them “crafting bonus yield”
Duplicate sounds sus for new players.
I hope that OP didn’t drop much of hes steel xD
He used duplicate so I stuck with it with explaining ![]()
To be more specific. There is a perk that increases your chance for bonus results for refining. This stat can be increased by equipment but also increases with skill. Different refining steps have different amounts of bonus potential and in some cases under the right circumstances you can get up to and above double what your supposed to. However, if you notice the bonus is 30% and you get an incredible amount greater or less than that percent on a large amount of refining then you know that is a bug. It’s generally within a margin of 5-10% of the bonus displayed.
This is where I sympathized with OP. I was refining a LOT of steel earlier this week to make starmetal ingots for a big push in weapon smithing. It showed a 91% of bonus, but one of the times when I did a huge stack, I ended up with more than double the amount. It didn’t even occur to me to be a problem until I started seeing all this stuff today ![]()
Back when the game started we had tiers in sand flux and the higher the tier sandflux you used the more chance on bonus items you had. The totally scrapped the different tiers so now you only have tier 5 sandflux and sandpaper and all that.
But yeah its designed this way so do not be afraid just be happy you got more then you excepted to make.
