I didn’t want to bring that one up because it is…just funny.
I even can’t express disappointment and my feel that Devs are now more like politicians - They believe in some lies they feed themselves.
As you mentioned, they probably never seen a war and have no idea how PVP looks.
If any Dev will ever read this post, note one thing - Fixing bugs and performance won’t make PVP in this game fun. No bonuses, permanent PVP mark nor videos promoting the game, will make a shallow boring system, that doesn’t even give what other games out there do, enjoyable, engaging and skillful.
It is casual, you made it casual.
I pity people that each day say “when they will fix this bug pvp will be fun”
why the fuck does everyone think the combat in this game is/was ~so amazing~??? it’s basic as fuck and the long cool downs on abilities makes combat extremely slow. i’m genuinely confused, like, what makes this combat better than, say, black desert or vindictus? i honestly think even mabinogi’s combat is more fun than new world’s combat and i love new world.
bringing back stagger or whatever isn’t going to make the combat any better, either.
Hey man, if you like MMO stylized combat, that’s cool.
I prefer the kind of skill-based combat you’d find in fighting games or Fromsoftware games. New World used to have that and I was excited it was coming into a MMO medium, until they ripped it out on behalf of the MMO crowd.
oh man, trust me, i want combat like sekiro in this game haha. i expressed myself poorly, i guess. i’ve seen so many people say the combat in this game is fantastic and the main reason people continue playing, but it’s honestly drab and pales in comparison to games it’s trying to be like (fromsoftware).
a combat system like sekiro or dark souls would slap, though, and i’m one of those mmo folks
That’s the difference, check out the main post of Halcyon or one of links I’ve dropped somewhere here, where other guy gave some info on systems surrounding combat back then.
Literally the game now, destroyed its identity and comments like “this game has amazing combat” are done by people that like to degrade their surroundings and be surprised that it’s bad. 341h playtime hoping It will get reversed but it didn’t so I basically gave up and play more challenging games. I jump here only to play few matches in OR with friends.
People will hit 60 and will do the same, because it’s boring.
On the other hand, you got PVE kiddos. I’m not even talking about normal PVE players, because someone we can call normal player, enjoys his time and challenge and is not afraid to PVP, just like PVP players are not afraid to PVE.
But, you literally got people that didn’t even hit 60, they complain on everything and especially on anything that would require them to develop, spend their time to play and be better, enjoy the game.
They hate what others want because they don’t like it(and very often it even doesn’t touch them at all…), so they instead promote their glorious PVE side of the game, which is in absolutely worse state than PVP after degradation.
Basically NW is like Brazilian soap opera, but we actually paid 40$ for being able to take part of it
a combat system like sekiro or dark souls would slap
NW had that but on an MMO level , they were gonna be the first MMO to pull off mass amounts of players having souls combat … until they pulled it to make it easier
Preview you had 3 weapons btw, ability slots had shared cooldowns but it was meant to be that way so that you can’t swap to backbar and spam your abilities - you had to think about which ability to use.
Your “abilities” in old combat was your judgement of openings, exploiting openings, timing, maneuvering, dodging, blocking, grit attacks, using the environment, stamina management, etc. Not ability rotations, ability spams, spamming magic spells, spamming light attacks, etc… Old combat was like I dunno… Souls!
Now that they addressed the full loot threads and the mount threads publicly, I really wonder why they don’t have the time for a couple of more lines to address combat and our issue.
I guess mounts and full loot aren’t bugs or performance issues either!
I find this weird and I still wonder what it means regarding AGS’ plans. To me it doesn’t appear good and fair. I really would like to know if to wait for it or if to not and give up on it.
Amazon, tell us at least where we are and where you’re heading! Will there be happening changes regarding the combat and stagger?
I don’t know about it being what we wanted, but it sure does feel like we’ve been seen a bit. Same with reducing item degradation and respeccing costs. It’s a nice change for sure.
The reduced degradation in PvP is a good change since dying is pretty much a requirement for someone in PvP. And respec costs are good for everyone.
The luck thing though I feel is just a token gesture. It doesn’t make PvP more appealing at best and at worst it’s just going to encourage people to run around in full luck gear while flagged to get that extra chance for things. They’re not going to provide a good PvP experience.
The only other people it really benefits are the people who are good enough to wear full luck gear and still win their fights.
The average player isn’t going to have enough luck to get the really good stuff so they either have to choose to wear partial luck and still be at a disadvantage or keep missing out.
And going back to the older combat system like this thread is about would only aggravate that problem since it would raise the skill ceiling letting better players wear even more luck-optimized armor.
I had to come back to this thread after PvPing and just digesting this thread.
Combat is the centerpiece of MMO, this game requiring just a high water mark and RMB spam really dumbs down the experience. I started to feel it after the “ooo finally good combat” came in.
AGS needs to return to their original ideas which were vastly superior than what we have now, there does not need to be a low skill floor or barrier to entry.
We mostly all (in this thread) agree that the old combat was superior and had a higher skill ceiling.
However we still want a low skill floor / low barrier to entry. We don’t want to drive off players by having the tutorial boss be a Dark Souls difficult boss fight.
Instead they should treat (and they kind of do a little) the entire leveling process to be a giant tutorial. Mobs should start off weak and dumb with few attack options so that even a newbie to the genre can win without too much danger.
Then, as you level, mobs start getting more abilities, GRIT attacks, a better sense of when to block (as in starting to block after the first of the perforate attacks hits), and become less predictable.
That way players can slowly learn and master one thing at a time and not have to know all the intricacies of high level play.
Going one farther, the questing should reflect this increase in difficulty. The first mob you fight (assuming you’re roughly following MSQ) to have GRIT attacks should be a named mini-boss as part of a quest. And the quest giver should mention something like “be careful, this monster can summon the willpower to GRIT through your attacks without being distracted”.
That introduces the new ability to the player and explains what it does (or how to combat it) in a more natural way.
I’m pretty apathetic to the new player experience, I prefer the high skill floor and skill ceiling because it’s something to strive for. NW was survival of the fittest and it’s what drew me to it.
I find it pretty simple to understand why the combat now is only a shadow of what it was.
There is really all the material that some ppl, who are bringing up the same arguments over and over again, need; so that maybe there will be more constructive aspects in the arguments themself, when they respect the intro text.
Really, most of these issues have been solved a thousand times already… And then it starts again…
Not your fault, but some advice…
And finally, none gets locked out from a game because the game offers good combat. Many ppl don’t play the game because of the compromised combat.
You can see it by yourself, nearly nobody knows what stagger is; and of those who know, ninety per cent want it back and sometimes a couple of people are just mindlessly saying they don’t want, without actual arguments…
So… I don’t know, but I’d say these circumstances plus the fact that originally the dev itself wanted the game to offer proper action combat, indicates there’s clear tendencies how it should be!
You know, I was wondering why my flurry skill with the hatchet wasn’t getting Interrupted anymore. While I like that I don’t have to worry about mis clicking my abilities out of order, that 100% does take some of the skill out of the game. Usually I’d have to pop berserk just so I could get all of the damage out of my flurry because there was no way I was getting the full 4 hits plus the final hit if I got staggered. Now I don’t have to worry about it. I won’t lie, it definitely lowered the skill gap. I say they should add stagger back in. I don’t think it’s fair for me to fully execute one of my biggest damage dealers and get to save my berserk for a time when I can back up and get healed by it. It definitely took that choice of “do I save this for a better time” out of my thought process. I should be punished in game for mistiming an ability or just flat out not using it at a certain point altogether.
Not sure what you mean here. Since hatchet skills changed, Raging Torrent skill was never in the game at the same time as stagger on all attacks was in the game. So nothing about your usage of the skill would have changed in the time you’ve played. You can still get staggered by abilities and CCd by abilities.
I would still like stagger to return in a more decisive way though, even if not fully as I’d like.
