Our Vision For Combat: What Happened? v2.0

Most companies have left. Very few servers have companies that can field 50 man armies. Midgard and Hades for example have no full English speaking companies.

I think it is time for AGS to realise that removing skill based combat in a game with no pve end game content was not the right move. If they want the dwindling playerbase to revive it is time to move back towards skill based combat.

No one is enjoying the current rubberband nightmare and chasing infinitely running light roll builds.

How you even gonna bring players back?
People waited few years for the game to be up and running, they spent money, then time to test it and provide feedback, time to promote and so on and in return they got an absolute masterpiece of disrespect on every possible aspect, it’s eve hard to describe how greatly we have been lied.
So, how do you want to bring back players that (at least some part of them, I hope a big part) knows that anything that will change for better, is ONLY due to them not getting so much profits?

I was paid to test and promote it. I enjoyed a lot of the early tests but the flaws are quite obvious.

A lot of the PvP and even pve inbalances come from the kneejerk reaction to remove stagger because the wow players couldn’t tell the difference between jump and dodge.

If they want to bring players back AGS need to learn adding grind gates are not content. The changes in 1.1 made leveling professions a nightmare and the 1.2 changes is making gear grinding worse. However there is no content. Grinding for the sake of grinding isn’t gameplay. Sure diablo 3 got away with it but this isn’t diablo.

Fix the combat. Add pve content. That is how you bring players back. If final fantasy can do it then AGS can too. They just need to want to.

I originally wanted to add a comment, but the last couple of comments SA(i)D it all :unamused::zipper_mouth_face:

Well, bumps for the bumps are also nice. Someone finally should make a strong YT video about how Amazon did Amazon on us

Sunk Cost Fallacy is what defines AGS combat system now…

“Lunge” system and “Exhaust” system were bandaids to melee combat being hard against good kiting rangeds. Now removing GAxe lunge, let’s see what the next bandaids will be, maybe more nerfs to Dodging, or maybe more Slows/Roots passives? Who knows…

Funny thing, stagger system now would make the game a lot more fluid and the “stunlock fallacy” wouldn’t be true as compared to Alpha/Preview since now we have:

  • Free Dodge after two consecutive staggers in a narrow timespan. (This address group gameplay “gank”).
  • Light attack combo pattern. (Last hit of combos have more delay than regular first hits, it’s more punishable).

Like, to each their own, but ESO combat is so floaty and non-impactful, it is literally the reason I don’t play that game. Because the rest of it is excellent.

The combat is trademark bethesda subpar animations combined with meh sound effects.

December New World Team Update - YouTube The propaganda is real. Watched full movie, tons of talks about how they listen to players. 0 info about any of PVP topics that were raised.

GG.

“We don’t just ban people based on reports.”

Holy hell. Dave Hall, the Player Experience Lead, is clearly unfit to task if he’s making the claim that the weapons feel close. I refuse to believe any of the three members of the development team in that conversation has ANY qualifications in terms of engaging and balanced combat.

The fact they actually took the time to do this is a big plus, a fair amount of good stuff came out this patch. It’s just a shame that they’re still ignoring some major issues.

Who else wants to co-op in Elden Ring w/Halcyon?

I would be back on NW in a hot minute if they restored the combat. Not just hit-stun but sprint using stamina, the whole thing. Even with all the other nonsense and mistakes I’d be there. I check this thread every few weeks to see if there’s been any dev comment on it. Otherwise I’m dining on some Demon’s Souls PS5 remake until Feb 25th and after that, well, I’ll probably be unreachable. :joy:

The dreaded June patch :sob:

Agreed. No idea why they had to remove core gameplay mechanics when they needed to add 1 trial with a weekly ladder. They couldn’t hire a designer to create raids or made unlocked expeditions with less gear drops?

Not a good sign. Even WoW in 2004 came up with a raid at the last second after realizing it’s mistake in not designing one. Even they revamped their dungeons around the time AQ40 dropped, they made them instanced 5man with decent blue gear drops and added a cool questline for end-game leveling (tier 0.5 set questlines) instead of full raid with limited drops.

This is a 17 year old problem with 17 year old solutions lol. If by January they don’t add ways to replace watermark, ESO will have a better solution created than them (they didnt have raids so they added them with ALOT of gear in Craiglorn content patch which was in may 2014 (1-2 months after release lol).

That’s the problem. They came with solutions and things people wanted on the market, because they were missing a lot…and then removed it making it a different game that needs to be redesign once again…so we literally live in alpha/beta now, where they think how to make new game, what mechanics put there and so on. We end up having things we got already in different games, or we had them there…

I stopped with MMOs as I lost passion to them due to NW. Sticking to RoR only, and waiting forward for Neverwinter Nights 2 RP servers, two good are on the horizon + we got Elden Ring close^^

Fuck…
I’ve been playing NW since release and always said that melee sucks, because it’s so inconsistant at catching ranged players.

The recent “nerf” of the GA made me think about how you could solve the issue (this isn’t a nerf per say, but made me wonder why homing was even a thing in this game), and I always thought that giving melee players the right to attack while moving was the fix we needed. But now I’m all wrong.
The combat system is fucked, and I understand why. They implemented a very souls-like combat, and removed chore mechanics to please softcore players, the very ones that came from a dying WoW. This hurted the combat system, a lot.

Seeing the videos about how the combat looked like back in the days disgusted me. I’ve spent so many hours thinking how great this game is, but having a bittersweet taste in my mouth, not knowing what was really off and why I couldn’t love the combat system… I’d give back every progression I made just to experience the game from start, with the vision the original dev team had for NW, with the full loot pvp game, and the agressive combat system that was designed.

I always hated wow for what it was, for the aweful combat mechanics it hold and how poorly it affected gameplay mechanics in other games, and I can see that it reflected once again on another game.

Now I just want to quit NW, knowing it’ll be just a mere shadow of what it was supposed to be…

Man, the problem is not HOW to solve things. It’s about Amazon doing typical corpo thing, they sold themselves for money (apparently 100-120k online is worth more than 500k+ because I assume we would be at that level down from 900k, not less, but perhaps more). The problem is about them don’t giving a damn, ignoring and not thinking about it. In medicine, it’s important to understand that you have a problem, admit it then act. Here? we got tons of problems, but team didn’t listen so the devoted crowd went away;] - I mean…they put tons of info how they listen to people, feedback, quality, how they act etc…but never on this subject:)

I think that if you really want any answer, we MIGHT get at least a typical PR statement from their HR department or something like that, December New World Team Update - YouTube under this video, there is a comment from “Heimdallr” which would be me. Bump that one, and leave a comment asking NW team to reply to this topic. Frankly I don’t expect an answer, nor do I expect any quality answer…but hey since I jump here from time to time to see if anything changed for good(It didn’t) I might as well drop this info:D

AGS actually answered on your comment, asking us, the community, to provide them with topics to talk about combat system and mechanics.

I highly suggest anyone who is in pair with this topic to go on the video and drop a comment leading to this discussion. It would raise awereness on our opinion and maybe open up a dialogue with the dev team.

Let’s stay positive folks

Yea they did reply, but…It’s more of PR response man, I mean “listening to feedback etc” types of things and no stagger, old combat type of topic and similar, up to date have any response? Weird coincidence if you ask me^^

Especially that the whole demanding type of combat cannot be also answered in an easy way as it is a huge and very deep topic, Halcyon here just touched part of it. There was also a bigger topic but can’t remember it now, about full loot zones, some old things that I wasn’t there so can’t say how and what worked, but it looked damn good, at least a damn good base for the future that they could build PVE around it now…while they build both parts nearl from scratch now. GJ

Devs have usually better thing to do than answer every issue brought up by the community on the forum.
This video might be laughable on some aspect, but it opened a media that could be reliable to get answers from the dev to our issues.

I’m maybe naïve but so far, your comment is the only one answered under the video. Maybe that’s a subject they would like to discuss on a next video, and so it might be a good idea to raise awareness on the matter through the only media we have right now that is being listened to.

I get that point, I also work in big company so I know how things work, but you can’t tell me that literally no one seen any of numerous topics regarding changes made to PVP…but they could find time to answer about mounts, dyes, food, recpies…everything except for one thing that was hurting people for a long time

ooo what neverwinter servers are those?!
